Gun Show Advertising Kills … Apparently

Says Rosemary Boileau, a lady who apparently has a masters degree in counseling and experience in mental health:

Putting “guns, knives, and machine guns for sale” advertisements in people’s faces – especially those who are feeling hopeless, or worse yet, angry – is a recipe for death. So stop the suggestive selling because the bottom line is, you don’t know who’s responding to your advertising and what your ads may “trigger.” Or alternatively, expect that people will die, and don’t be surprised by it.

Yea…. and food advertisements made Rosie O’donnell fat

Her Masters in Mental Health is almost as useful as my Masters in Educational Leadership… It’s nice, but that plus $4.50 gets me a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

    1. Except that with a couple more years education she could be Dr. Boileau, a high-priced expert witness in cases involving mental disease or insanity defenses. You’ll be Dr. Jeff S., superintendant of a school district full of snot-nosed little brats that don’t want to listen to anyone.

LMAO. Sorry, couldn’t resist a jab at an education degree – and you opened the door for it, so I hope I didn’t offend.

As to the letter – come on. Blaming the advertising? Blaming the advertising or the gun for making the suicide easier just detracts from the seriousness of the underlying mental problem. Did you catch how she responded to the promoter’s quote that if he wanted to kill himself there was nothing anyone could do? She said he was DEAD wrong. Hehe.

Maybe she should be thanking the promoter for allowing the man the means to end his mental anguish quickly and without pain. She concedes in the letter that it is far easier to pull a trigger than “to use alternative, and often less successful methods.” Maybe the gun kept him from having to hack away at his wrist and face a slow, painful death as he bled out.

  2. By that logic, companies shouldn’t advertise fast foods, because you don’t know what kind of person with poor dietary habits might go in, and eat themself into a heart attack.
But the sad thing is people actually tried suing McDonalds for their obesity, and the such… so some lawsuit thing doesn’t seem too impossible…

  3. I hate to say it, but… that was a rather good pun.

This one is pretty funny, I love when people called experts talk about something that is not their expertise.

But fast food ad’s can make people fat, its called child toys and those people are kids that wont eat something if it doesn’t come with a toy.

  5. […] a comment » Apparently advertising can cause suicide! Every Day, No Days Off brought up a quote from a hack individuals claiming to be a counselor that really struck me as well […]

  6. @Jeff you’re right on. If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?
