NYC Cops Might Have To Start Shooting To Wound

New York City – Cops are livid over a legislative proposal that could handcuff the brave officers involved in life-and-death confrontations every day — requiring them to shoot gun-wielding suspects in the arm or leg rather than shoot to kill, The Post has learned.

Full Story – HERE

LOL when I read that I double checked that I was on a legitimate news site, not some satire website.

Vice President Joe Biden, who scoffed and suggested it be dubbed “The John Wayne Bill” because it demands sharp-shooting skills of the kind only seen in movies.

I don’t agree with Joe Biden often, but he is right on the money with that statement!

A big problem with laws like this is the fact that the court system is going to be even more clogged up with family’s trying to get rich off suing the police because their son etc… should have been shot in the arm or leg… he shouldn’t have had to die!

Also, It appears that no one that is proposing this new bill has any idea how the human body works. There are arteries all over the arms and legs, and if you get hit in any one of those you are on your way to dying very quickly.

Nothing like giving criminals more rights

If this passes, I bet lots of cops will decide to retire early.

(The picture I used in this article is the same one that the NYpost used.  Pretty interesting grip the guy is using,  the old “2nd hand holding the wrist” hahah nice.)

  1. I find it ironic that, a year or two ago, NYC passed a law banning the painting of guns because it might slow down a police officer’s reaction time as they have to assess the danger. Now they want the officers to take the time to shoot limbs. Also, I don’t know about what anyone else thinks but wouldn’t that leave policemen completely boned if someone has ballistic armor (especially on the arms/legs)?

That’s a good point Jeff. I don’t have any experience with how body armor works, but I’d assume that if you had armor on your arms and legs, and it was not a DIRECT hit, the bullet would probably just glance off and not even be that painful.

I’m a Frearms and Tactics Training Officer and I have refused to teach officers to “shoot to wound” for as long as I have been (1984). If NYPD, if any department would provide the range time, overtime and rounds anyone can be taught to shoot well enough to hit an arm or leg or little toe. Some will be able to do it under the preassure of being shot at themselves. The number of through & through shots into bystanders, people 10 blocks down, and damage to property claims are going through the tallest Manhattan Skyscraper’s roof. No one can aford it- the future of NYPD’s departmental insurances is dim as is the ability of individual officer’s to pay for their own. It also gives me yet another reason to stay oput of NYC

Yea its quite obvious whoever came up with that dumb proposal never even bothered to think it through, or even question the feasibility of it.

  3. Are they passing a law that would require criminals to reciprocate?

      hahha yea if only…

  4. Wow. Only 10:19 local time, and I already have a winner for, “dumbest thing I’ve heard all day.”

  5. This sounds like something out of a cheap Western; why don’t we just have ’em shoot the gun out of their hands, or better yet, shoot down the barrel of the gun to render the weapon useless?
According to everyone’s good friend Dr. Ignatius Piazza, the national hit ratio for police officers without the extensive practice mentioned by Jerome up there stands at around 12-17%, even when aiming center mass. Now let’s imagine that while aiming for the forearm or shin. I don’t like this. And I bet theat every single legislator in the room with actual military or police experience just did one large, collective facepalm.

Or, Even better, Hawk, why not send for Neo to teach the NYPD bullet-time skills?

This is just like that one time, way back when, where some state legislator somewhere proposed a law to change the value of pi so that math would be easier. Now NYC wants to vote magically good shooting skills to their police officers.

    2010: Shoot to wound.
2011: Traditional sidearms taken away, replaced by Tasers.
2012: Tasers abused and taken away, replaced by the new tickle-ray gun.
2013: Tickle-ray guns prove too expensive, replaced by feathers.
2014: Feathers determined insensitive to living birds, replaced by wet noodles.

LOL then maybe the noodles will get replaced because they are too high in carbohydrates.

Pretty bad if Biden gets it right.

This is stuff that should be obvious to most doorknobs.
