The German – A Short WW2 Related Film With Zero VFX Budget

€70,000 to fund the live action portion of the film.  There was no money left for visual effects so the director did them all for free over a 6 month period:

A British fighter pilot pursues the german ace that shot down his friend across sky and country… with murder in mind. But he discovers it’s not so easy to kill a man when you have to look them in the eye.

You can read more about the movie over at the website – HERE

€70,000 converts to $110,000 USD today which seems like a lot of money to me for a 9 minute movie.   They did a nice job on it though.

Thoughts?

Pilots are not supposed to fight on foot, don’t expect one to act like an experienced Sturmtrupp.

  2. Very well done. I had no idea about Ireland in WW2, so I learned something new as well.

  3. You’ll enjoy this, animated but incredibly detailed and well done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk5yM11AyYg

The full movie can be found on liveleak, albeit not in HD.

  7. $110,000 may sound like a lot of money if you’re thinking of making a movie with your buddies using dslr and a mac book pro, but from the credits, this was a real production. Real film movie camera, real crew, aerial photography, helicopters, period costumes and props, actors, etc. $110,000 is a bargain. I’m betting a lot more than the VFX was done for favors, bargains, pints of beer and a song or two.

  8. Very well done. I knew about Ireland being neutral but not about the internment regs.
