No Background Check – These Weapons Can Shoot Down Aircraft

The amount of firearms villainizing and false information in this video makes my head spin:

Full story at MSNBC – HERE

Police grade pistol!  Hollow point bullets!  Semi-automatic assault rifle!

“No paperwork, no background checks… probably couldn’t pass the damn thing anyway” <— *facepalm*

OMG the one guy’s 7 year old son came along for the exchange!  The humanity…

This is the icing on the cake for the entire video though:  .50 Caliber sniper rifle that has a range of 5 miles.   LOL yea I don’t doubt the bullet would go 5 miles, but considering the furthest confirmed sniper kill is at 2707 yards (1.54 miles)  why bother even pretending the average person could shoot semi-accurately at anywhere near 5 miles distance.

The best was the guy’s response to the reporters comment of “it can take down a helicopter”:

Oh it can take a plane, it can take anything! That’s a .50 caliber, I understand!

Funny how they kept talking about “online purchases”, when the purchase was face to face.  A real story would have been if they would have paypal’d the seller the money and convinced them to mail the firearm directly to them (the buyer).

Thoughts?

  1. retarded alarmist bullshit.

    1. ^ This should be the only comment allowed for this post.

  2. If these news companies and the ATF werent butt buddies they would all be going to jail.

  3. I don’t want to live on this planet anymore… but seriously, this kind of complete and total alarmist ignorance makes my head spin. The ignorant always fear things that they do not understand.

  4. Yeah it’s disgusting what they peddle as fact on the mainstream nowadays. Weapon of choice for drug cartels? ON WHAT PLANET?! That gun isn’t the weapon of choice for ANYONE. Guns are just an easy target for reporters trying to make some cash.

I will say if they had an easy and free system to run background checks I would use it. Go online, give a serial number and a drivers license, get an answer. The problem is the tards in congress just want to close the loop and not give a way to do the transactions at all.

I don’t think there’s ever been more anti-gun bias, incorrect facts or alarmism rolled into one video before.

I would’ve loved to hear 50-cal guy say “Oh it can take a plane, it could out THE SUN! it can take anything! That’s a .50 caliber, I understand!

    LMFAO!!!!!

    1. Another reason to ban guns. Some inbred hick might shoot the sun with his Barrett and inadvertently destroy the solar system.

  6. “This SKS can be easily converted to shoot the AK47 bullet” Oh the big bad awful AK47 with the magical bullet that is the worst ever! (they should have checked before just saying it, that the SKS already shoots the AK bullet.)

“These dangerous weapons” Oh as apposed to the non-dangerous weapons?

  7. More alarmist but more eloquently presented propaganda on 50 cals: http://www.vpc.org/50caliber.htm

    1. That is a frustrating website, in their “criminal use” there is only one instance of a .50 cal being used since 2004 and that was not even in the United States.

  8. Remember, folks, the guns they bought in the course of this report were handed into the authorities to be destroyed. These people are not interested in rights or facts; they are interested in disarmament.

  9. I hate reports like this ( hear are some fun facts)

    Smoking related deaths
People who die each year from their own cigarette smoking: approx. 400,000
Adult nonsmokers who die each year from exposure to secondhand smoke: approx. 50,000
Kids under 18 alive today who will ultimately die from smoking (unless smoking rates decline): 6,000,000+
People in the USA who currently suffer from smoking-caused illness: 8.6 million

    Alcohol related deaths
There are approximately 79,000 deaths attributable to excessive alcohol use each year in the United States.1 This makes excessive alcohol use the 3rd leading lifestyle-related cause of death for the nation.2 Additionally, excessive alcohol use is responsible for 2.3 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) annually, or an average of about 30 years of potential life lost for each death. In the single year 2005, there were more than 1.6 million hospitalizations3 and more than 4 million emergency room visits4 for alcohol-related conditions.

    Car related deaths
40,000 every year in the US

    Obesity related deaths
In the year 2000, the total annual cost of obesity in the United States was $117 billion. While extra value meals may save us some change at the counter, they’re costing us billions of dollars in health care and lost productivity. Physical inactivity and super-sized meals are leading to a nation of oversized people.
This year, more than 300,000 Americans will die from illnesses related to overweight and obesity.
Obesity contributes to the number-one cause of death in our nation: heart disease.
Excess weight has also led to an increase in the number of people suffering from Type 2 diabetes. There are at least 17 million Americans with diabetes, and another 16 million have pre-diabetes. Each year, diabetes costs America $132 billion. It can lead to eye diseases, cardiovascular problems, kidney failure, and early death.

    Gun related deaths
According to the Center for Disease Control(CDC) In the year 2007
    Homicide with a firearm: 12,129
    Suicide with a firearm: 17,348
Death by accidental discharge of firearm: 721
And roughly 5,000 deaths from legal interventions(I.E. police shooting criminals)

The Holocaust related deaths after the government disarmed its population
    Jews- 5.9 million
    Soviet POW’s- 3.3 million
    Non-Jewish Poles- 1.8-2 million
Romanis (‘gypsies’)- 220,000- 270,000 (but even the higher figure may be too low)
    Disabled- 200,000 – 250,000
    Homosexuals- 5,000 – 15,000
    Jehovahs Witnesses- 2,500 – 5,000

Please explain why the cost of the US gun laws justify there existence

now you are just sprayin facts about some bullshit. wikiapedia give you thoses numbers? you dont fuckin know. and a 50 cal. can stop a plane a mag. thru the engine will keep that plane from flying they never said anything about shooting one out of the sky. it was a funny video i think instead of covering the gun sales that happen in the jcpenny parking lot the sound do a story about the ones that go down in old warehouses or the ally behind seven 11.

      1. Uh, not to be on the gun grabbers side. But illegalizing firearms ownership doesn’t always result in government-sponsored mass murder. I mean, I’m pretty sure the French, British and Japanese haven’t been operating any death camps lately.

        1. Chrontius Avatar

Not sure how the French are doing, but Britain has some truly distressing laws on the books regarding self-defense, and Japan leads the world in their suicide rate.

Seriously, add the American murder and suicide rates and the Japanese murder and suicide rates, and the combination is eerily close. For the underinformed, Japan has something like *no* murders, so they’re bumping themselves off at a prodigious rate.

          1. I am not an expert, but there are a huge number of murders classified as suicides in Japan. Especially when they can’t find who did it. All told still not very many murders in Japan.

            1. Oh I’m not defending the fuck-tarded gun policy (and self-defense) laws of these three nations, just trying to make the point that anti-gun laws don’t always equal instant death camps.

Yeah, you can’t trust any crime stats that come out of East Asia, or anywhere that isn’t Europe or North America really.

  10. Couldn’t believe the “if you couldn’t buy guns online our friend would still be alive”. Newsflash, 11 shots is a crime of passion. If he couldn’t have gotten a gun he’d have just stabbed her instead.

  11. As much as this is sensationalist nonsense it does bring up some good points I think. I think too many gun owners have this “I don’t care who you are after you buy my gun” attitude. Those people who got caught were dumb. Straight up. If a guy made comments like to me I wouldn’t sell him a gun. I don’t care if he was joking.

If we want to cut down on this, we as gun owners need to get smarter.

  12. I watched it live originally. Basically they want to ban private sales. I remember, growing up, there use to be a classified section for guns.

Private sales have been going on since guns were invented. Hell, I was stopped with full combat swords in my trunk, and the cop made a comment like “Boy you’re strapped.”

Until the 68 GCA you could walk into a store and buy a gun with no background check, no interference. What makes this any different?

  13. If anything should happen the people responsible for the content of the interviews should be forced to take jobs in the bullshit industry because they are experts in it.

Out of curiosity, what site are they showing?
    Not gunbroker.

  15. I want to see someone pit a Barrett M82 against some kind of UAV’d Cessna or something. Just to prove to the gun grabbers how ridiculously impossible it would be to SHOOT DOWN A MOVING AIRCRAFT WITH A RIFLE.

    1. Pffffft, I do it in BF3 all the time. It’s totally possible.

Jitka Vesel, for example, was killed by a stalker – a Canadian man who crossed into the U.S., bought a gun online in Seattle, then shot her 11 times as she got in her car.

Yeah and if she would of had the abilty to buy an online gun too, she would of lived.

  18. The only things I learned from this video are to never trust a Canadian, and never watch this show.

  19. On KSL.com, most of the sellers say they will only sell to someone with a valid concealed carry permit. They said they were able to buy 8 guns, how many people turned them down, I wonder.

I think that selling to someone who has a current permit is a good way to ensure you aren’t selling to a criminal.

    1. NotWagner Avatar

I’d bet they got turned down by more than the 8 that sold to them. But, they won’t ever report those numbers. They don’t want any gun owner portrayed as anything but an irresponsible person with either a hero complex or irrational fear of crime. We’ve got a mix of the two here locally as far as TV news goes. Cops shoot a criminal for trying to run him over, one calls the thug a victim. The other calls him a lowlife scumbag, not kidding.

  20. Hey… lets meet a stranger in a parking lot and buy a gun. No thanks, I’ll pay the $25 to my FFL and have him handle it. Getting robbed buying a guy kinda defeats the whole purpose.

  21. So, they’re trying to pass a law to stop law breakers……. Ah yes, DC logic at it best…

I think 5FDP’s “War is the Answer” sums up my opinion perfectly….

  22. Rossenn, dude, lay off the speed.

  23. And I didn’t know ak-47 bullets were super deadly?

I really need to follow the news for new breakthroughs regarding guns.

Supposedly I can get an assault pistol that is invisible to metal detectors which takes down airplanes up to 5 miles away! AWESOME.

    1. Chrontius Avatar

I’m sure one will be invented in time for the 24th century, but by that point most airplanes will be defended with atomic force fields.

Hmm, these comments hide anything that looks like HTML, even invalid tags like the “Deadpan” and “Sarcasm” tag. Pretend these are actually proper angle brackets and this is how my comment was posted:

  24. I’m glad Mike posted this, and wasn’t surprised by the comments. Didn’t think I’d see any arguments in favor of this steaming pile of a story. But, there is no point in us trying to convince each other. I highly encourage everyone to leave comments in the stroy’s comment section and contact the producers of Today about your disappointment in what NBC/Today considers investigative reporting, subjective presentation, distorsion, and factual errors.

    1. I did an a post to them. I can guess what kind of answer I’m going to get.

  25. I wonder if this guy is related to Ralph Nader?
I started saying this about 10 years ago and this “news” story is a warning. We, as responsible firearms owners, need to start policing ourselves and taking responsibility for the private sales and the ownership of our guns before the hand wringing fear monger liberals legislate the 2nd Amendment out of existence. I mean, I like most of the LEO’s I have met in my area. I would hate to have to shoot them because some Jackass in DC decided (for my own good) that I shouldn’t be able enjoy the RIGHT guaranteed to me by The Constitution The United States Of America (Did I just say that out loud?).

  26. Police grade pistol, semi-automatic assault rifle, hollow-point bullets? Where can I get those…Oh, I already got those…

Not one of these sales was “online,” the web was just where the ad was placed, and Arizona’s favorite left-wing, nearly bankrupt newspaper, the Arizona Repugnant, still runs gun classifieds and lots of ’em. Any true “on line” sales where buyers purchase from a commercial dealer are run through dealers at the receiving and sending ends. But it sounds good–after all, the Kennedy assassination took out “mail order guns,” and now they’re looking to shut down all private sales by propagandizing “online sales.” They did this in Phoenix, using Backpage ads, and a number of folks tipped to it so I strongly suspect they got a lot of “but offs” and demands to see license, ccw permit, etc. And the reason they do it in parking lots is that they are public and usually under video surveillance. I buy and sell stuff on Backpage regularly and if big ticket, meet the other person at a bank branch and do the money transaction inside where they have ten video cameras on them. In any event, this is the same sham crap that Mayor Bloomberg pulled–ironically, now his police department is being busted with its own gun running scandal: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/07/nyregion/new-york-officer-pleads-guilty-in-gun-smuggling-case.html?_r=3

  28. i couldn’t even finish watching this piece of crap video.
