Firearms Ownership in New Jersey

This video would be funny if it was fiction:

*facepalm* what a mess.  The style of the video reminds me a lot of Penn & Teller’s Bullshit… good stuff.

Thoughts?

  1. So that’s why there are so many douchebags originating from there.

On the other hand, at least New Jersey people actually have gun rights.

  2. sounds they have much better gun laws there than here.

And where are you from, Australia? Seriously, I cannot believe the Australian news media in the third blog entry below this one. Those people have no business telling someone that they cannot post pictures of themselves doing something totally within United States’ law.

Also, accessory and capacity laws are unconstitutional and in Heller V DC the Supreme Court ruled that nutty restrictions on that stuff and handguns is likewise.

      1. sweden. To get a license here you got to have a “good enough reason”. that means hunting and maybe if you shoot as a sport but then you have to have been member in a shooting club for atleast 6 months.
on the other hand… it doesnt seem as bad as in Australia at least!

Wow I’m curious now about a few things. Does your country have restrictions on pistol grips, folding/retracting stocks, magazine capacity, etc? The reason I ask is that basically I would never even consider living somewhere outside of the US because I don’t feel like I could legally take my firearms “collection” with me. I mean, I could move to Iraq or Somalia and maybe they’d just leave me alone but I don’t want to do that for some pretty obvious and serious reasons.

I would have no problem with saying I need my Desert Eagle and NHM AK-47 for hunting reasons as long as I can keep my folding stock and STANDARD capacity (30 round) magazines.

Makes me glad I live in Texas

  4. The danger in their bass-ackwardsness is that it not only confuses citizens of NJ, it turns their gun culture upside down enough that the citizens actually believe the government’s idea that they shouldn’t have guns and that only the cops should. It’s like that in CA. My sister and her husband live in NJ and they don’t understand the concept of self defense being their right and privilege because the Australia-ization of the people there who think guns are dangerous baby-killing tools of destruction. I’m in Montana and when they visit they see me carrying and I take them shooting and they see the videos i put up of me teaching my kids to shoot and they freak. When I ask them if they have a gun in the house for protection I get blank stares.

  7. Wow… even makes my home state of NY sound decent in comparison.

RE: the gas pumping thing – I was at the Vince Lombardi Service Station on my way back from Newark, when I stopped there to fuel up. The legally-mandated attendant screwed up fueling the car ahead of me, creating a nice big volatile puddle on a scorching hot day. Deciding that I’d rather not risk burning alive, I backed up a a foot or two, got out of the line, and simply left. Less expensive gas just isn’t worth it.

    1. No, the Sullivan Act is much worse.

      1. How is it worse? Here’s why it seems a bit better here – your permit to own is technically a permit to carry, too – many counties issue “full carry” right away. Additional guns don’t require their own permit – you “amend” your existing one which is 99.99% of the time a rubber-stamp process that takes far less time than the original permit.
If your permit is “target and hunting only” and you’re somehow caught carrying at a time when clearly no ranges are open, there’s no specific criminal penalty – the worst that happens is that you go in for a “permit revocation hearing” and it might be taken away for a while. Even if you lose your handguns, your longarms are still safe.
Internal tubular magazines are exempt from the “hi-capacity” ban, and I actually have yet to hear of a prosecution strictly for someone having allegedly banned mag.
I also have yet to hear of anyone in my state being arrested for a suspected “assault weapon” while at a range, and have to prove it’s either “compliant” or “preban.” There doesn’t appear to be an “arrest first, sort it out later” attitude among police here.
I’m not saying that NYS is some sort of gun owners’ paradise, only that it seems to be better than Jersey at the moment.
Believe me, I’d rather it be like Vermont or AZ here, but I have a lot keeping me tied to where I am, so I make the best of it.

Everything was fine until he said grenade launchers were “federally illegal.” They are not illegal to own in my state because they are Title II weapon classified as a destructive device. Except most of the munitions are illegal to own with out complicated permits.

Good catch, Dom. I was gonna post this as well. Other than that, though, the narrator in the above clip did a pretty bang-up job. But yeah, DD’s are perfectly legal in most states.

  9. I’m from PA, and I have never met anyone from NJ I like… But they should still get equal firearm rights.

  10. is NJ really wasting taxpayer money, or are they generating revenue; a stealth tax?

  11. One could ask ,… what about the second ammendment? But then again we know how things go in NJ

I grew up in Jersey and now living in Dallas. Just love the gun laws here. the food sucks but the woman make up for it. Just bought my 3rd gun here.

  14. This is still a lot better than UK gun laws. We are not allowed any weapon less than 16″ in length ie. no handguns and no self loading centrefire rifles. For most shotguns you are allowed to own one on a shotgun certificate but if it is pump action or semi auto and it holds more than 3 rounds max it can only be bought on a FAC (Firearms Certificate). To get an FAC you have to have a background check by the British Police, a doctors note saying you are mentally sound, a visit from a Firearms officer to ensure you have secure storage for the gun (a gun cabinet securely bolted to the floor or a structural wall) and you also have to have a good reason for ownership. and the only ones that are accepted are hunting and target shooting. i must say that i agree with the procedures for obtaining an FAC i think we should be allowed a greater variety of weapons once we have one. the only people who can legally own a handgun are vets and even then there is a restriction of 3 rounds in the magazine.

    1. So you accept that your right to self-defense is predicated on the the government?

If a robber, rapist, or otherwise deranged/criminal breaks into your house, you don’t have the right to defend yourself?

Would a person who wants to commit an illegal activity worry about carrying a knife if it was illegal to do so? What if he was carrying a gun illegally? Do you think that will stop him?

      I’m interested in your replies.

  15. This is just plain sad.

  16. Glad I live in Texas. I have a concealed handgun on my person as I’m typing this.

It’s time for you in New Jersey to get your human rights back.

Wow, I like Komo’s comment. You’re stellar. Born and raised in NJ and spent the last few years there caring for my aging parents (also douchebags). Yeah, NJ sucks for gun ownership, all the more onerous as one can’t stroll ten feet without hitting a “George Washington slept here” sign and remembering NJ as a significant part of the War for Independence. Is it going to change? I really couldn’t continue to live in a place with such incompetence and corruption, from the Governor’s office on down to the local meter maids, in a place where basic rights were stifled and taxes and fees and crowding were so insane.

So here we are in TX, where the fight now is for Constitutional Carry, like our neighbor AZ, where, yes, really good pizza and Chinese are tough to find but by golly! the Tex-Mex and Margaritas are just fine. For once, I get to live in America…..
