Family Guns

A new show starting Sept. 12th @ 10pm EST on National Geographic:

Father and son run one of the largest antique gun suppliers in the world, based out of New Jersey.

Definitely some eye candy when it comes to antique military guns.  Hopefully the derp is kept to a minimum, but seeing as it’s TV I have a feeling it will go full-retard.  Maybe not at a Sons Of Derp level… but likely still quite high.

Thoughts?

  1. NJ? Seriously?? I call BS, everybody knows guns are illegal here, and that includes water pistols, supersoakers, and bb guns.

  2. I hope every single target they shoot at the end of the show will not derply blow up with a huge ass gasoline explosion.

  3. They may be based in NJ, but they have a storefront in PA. Also, despite what the trailer (and probably the tv show) shows, when it comes to firearms they mainly sell nonfunctional/demilled ones.

  4. I should add the majority of firearms they sell seem to be unregulated pre 1899 ones, and even then when you get to the fine print it says “IMA considers all of our antique guns as non-firing, inoperable and/or inert. Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 921(a)(16) defines antique firearms as all guns made prior to 1899. This law exempts antique firearms from any form of gun control or special engineering because they are not legally considered firearms. No FFL, C&R or any license is required to posses, transport, sell or trade Antique guns. All rifles and muskets sold by IMA that were manufactured prior to 1898 are considered Antiques by the US BATF (United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms). Therefore, all of IMA’s Antique guns may be shipped to all US States and most nations around the world.

These antique guns are not sold in “live” condition. They are sold as collector’s items or as “wall hangers”. Any attempt at restoring an antique gun to be operational is strongly discouraged and is done so at the risk of the customer. By purchasing an antique gun from IMA you thereby release IMA, its employees and corporate officers from any and all liability associated with use of our Antique guns. “

  5. I don’t really see how mike could tie this to the vigilant Spectre derps. These guys at least appreciate history. I well Im still happy to see any anti vigilant Spectre derp comments any time anywhere so even though this isn’t relevant to them I still love it.

    1. you’re thinking of the wrong derp there.. Mike’s referring to that TV show “Son of Guns (Sons of Derp)”. most (all) reality show so far relating to firearms have so far been so “Derpy”, like Sons of Guns, American Guns and Combat Pawn

  6. I really hope this show doesn’t go full retard. I’ve actually done quite a lot of business with IMA over the last few years (they’ve been great BTW) and would hate to see them turn into Sons of Derp or American Guns (Derp) for better Reality TV ratings.

BTW- About the NJ thing, I pretty sure they don’t sell any modern (post 1899) guns. It’s all pre-1899 antiques or nonfunctional display guns built from parts kits on demilled receivers, and a bunch of other militaria. Antiques (in most places) are pretty much totally unregulated. They’re exempt from all federal gun laws, unless it’s a NFA gun. You can order them straight to your door, no background check, no FFL required. Except for a few places (like NYC), that have passed their own laws, antiques aren’t even legally considered guns.

    1. No one wants to watch a bunch of neck beards shoot flint locks dude…

      1) Accuracy is shit
      2) You blew up a zombie target with a musket? GTFO
      3) Neck Beard Alert (NBA)
      4) NJ sucks in more way than one
      5) Every time you fire that gun it probably goes down in value.
      6) Two qualifications for “Antique Guns” are A) Must have wood, and B) Make lots of smoke
      7) Look at that poof of white smoke *eye roll*
      8) Is that guy wearing period attire? What is this the Renaissance Fair?
      9) This is what our forefathers meant by “bear arms” single shot muzzle loaders with lots of smoke!
      10) You know it’s gonna be just like all the other American-Sons-of-Flint-Lock-Derp shows, dont kid your self.

      1. OMG, just spewed diet Pepsi all over my iPad while reading your post JWhite!
        Hilarious!

      2. I have a new manufacture Kentucky Long Rifle, good to have if cased ammo comes hard to find.

  7. Just so everybody knows, in NJ guns are guns, whether it’s a cheap AK knockoff, or a 16th Century musket used to conquer the Aztecs, thus the must follow NJ laws, which is probably why their showroom is in Easton PA.

The concept of ‘antique’ firearms does not exist in NJ.

  8. Meh. It’s gonna suck just like the rest of the shows.

  9. The only one worth watching is the one with that retard hot girl. Paige Wyatt?

I like the fact that the guy is already muzzle flashing his pop in the shop, and the macho “no YOUR a HOOOARDER” flip point is classic. I can see a meme now

  14. Its a bunch of de milled stuff, and fake transactions. IMA is a good sight for parts, but thats all.

  15. derp is high, lost count of how many times they pull a gun out of a box of which (at least act like) they don’t know the condition and point it right in someones face, just sayin
