Did Haley Strategic’s Brannon LeBoeuf Bite Buck Yeagers Monologue?

The start of this talk is suspiciously identical to Buck Yeagers “Three Battles monologue“:

Both guys take credit… who originally came up with the list?  Sure it’s entirely possible two separate people could come up with the exact same idea, I just like to get to the bottom of this type of stuff.  Yeager’s video was released October 30, 2012 and this new video was released yesterday November 16, 2012.  On Yeagers facebook page he has a post he wrote on Feburary 5, 2012 which also deals with the three battles.

Is this a standard talk that instructors give to students at training classes?

00:30 – “I actually like to break it down…” is not what people normally say if they aren’t taking credit for what they are about to say.

Brannon does go into a whole bunch of stuff that isn’t in the Yeager video after that initial part.

Note: No Buck Yeager approved pic in this post because I have the sneaking suspicion he would not approve.

Thoughts?

  1. This guy is miles ahead of Yeager as far as being personable goes. Buck seems to try (although i don’t know how much he succeeds) to force people into respecting him to fulfill some narcissistic self need for gratification. This Brannon guy seems to have a decent head on his shoulders with a good leader mindset, I applaud him.

  2. Ayoob talked about this stuff 20 years ago, it’s not exactly unknown. There hasn’t been anything new since Cooper.

    1. I tend to think a lot of the stuff Col. Cooper’s credited with are things that he may not have come up with, but that he was best able to explain. Like Rod said, doesn’t matter who invented it. What separates instructors is their ability to clearly explain a concept in a way that anybody can understand.

Well in that case, then Haley Strategic > James Yeager (Tactical Response).

  3. At this point I don’t really think it matters who came up with what. As long as the person speaking has a clear grasp on the concept and can get his or her listeners to think critically of the topic.

  4. A lot of instructors do the gun fight – mental fight – legal fight speech. Anyone who has actually gotten some real training would know this.

Brannon LeBouef seems like a guy who has the right idea. This video of his is probably the best explanation of the concealed carry mindset I’ve ever seen:

It’s worth the time to watch IMHO…

  6. Laws are laws. Consequences are consequences. No one owns the legalities of firearm ownership and the use of deadly force.

  7. All,

Certainly not going to take credit for the “three battles / fight” concept, though I have been teaching it for the last 10-12 years in one form or another. I did watch James’ video before we made this one (I watch most of his videos), but I generally give this lecture or parts of it during each course when the opportunity organically presents itself. Travis decided we needed to film it…so I do what bossman says. ;)

The black/white/grey thing, while I am sure others articulate it in a similar fashion, is something I came up with a few years back to try and explain to people how just because the law says one thing, does not mean that is how it goes once said law is applied.

I have found laws tend to be created and exist in a vacuum. However, they are applied in the swirling vortex of reality. Like life, laws in practice are not absolute.

Thanks for posting this and thanks for the kind words.

I try to pop on here at least once a day or when I see cool posts from here on my FB feed.

Be safe guys, and keep it classy.

Hey Brannon, glad to have you as a reader. Thanks for clearing up my (our) questions.

      Keep up the good work.

      1. No problem brother. And stop being so hard on Yeager…he is just a bearded tactical teddy bear on the inside. ;)

  8. That is not a beard. That is some King Leonidas inspired Alabama trailer park crank addict style chin thing. It looks awful. I think the trash talking about Yaeger is funny on the surface level. I think he seems to be an alright instructor with alright principles. I won’t vouch for his actual teaching skills or the shooting skills he teaches because I’ve never attended his courses. Only seen his short videos. That being said. The chin beard thing looks terrible.
