Treating An AR-15 Like Shit For Science

Palmetto State Armory puts in work:

Spoiler Alert: The rifle is HSLD as _ _ _ _ for the most part.  Sure it got a bit of a beat down in the drag test, but running some water through it apparently fixed it.  I have to wonder how he can just jam it in the ground though and not get a barrel obstruction?  I’m not surprised the tannerite bent the shit out of the lower.

I’m always down to watch a good torture test.  Mattv2099 trollture tests are also something I enjoy.  Both you can definitely learn a thing or two from.   The best part is you can base future buying decisions on the results of such tests if you wish, and if you already own the items you have bragging rights (or if the test failed miserably you probably will want to just keep your mouth shut :P).

PSA – Taking “throwing it down the driveway” to a whole new level.

LOVE my PSA. It has been rock solid shooter with excellent tolerances. Built it back when you could build your own for $650ish if you waited for the right sales…glad to see prices starting to creep back within normal again. PSA has blemish sales often which get you the same quality plus a small scratch or something which is great for budget buyers…

MAN this made me want to shoot. Also, I wonder how many takes there were for some of the magazine tosses, and man did that clean ass lower look funny on the upper from hell.

  5. Meh, Daniel Defense was beating the shit out of their AR on youtube before it was cool…

PSA jacking some of Daniel Defense’s swagger!

Military Arms Channel already did a good AR Reliability test with a basic Colt. Only way he could get it to choke was to get a bunch of dirt behind/under the trigger and hammer. It’s pretty safe to say the same would hold true for any quality AR.

PSA sells some decent stuff. The probelm is that they sell parts of so many different levels of quality. It gets hard to determine exactly what you are getting for a barrel or a BCG. I have one of their basic uppers for a beater gun, but I’m a bit wary of their BCGs. The sources for their parts seems to be constantly changing so they can keep inventory available.

      1. Exactly! I have a $200 complete PSA upper – I don’t know if it would take this level of beating…

I’m sure that was some super clearance sale, pre-craziness of course.

Well, I was contenplating getting one of their uppers for an SBR project and I suppose that seals the deal. Never buried any of my guns in mud for a torture test but I have done the underwater thing. I wouldn’t recommend it though.

I think PSA makes a fine rifle… But the test where they “bury” it with the ejection port open looks like they left they whole dug out deep underneath the ejection port! A little misleading and lame in my opinion. If you’re going to do a torture test, torture that SOB!

    1. They’re testing their own product, they’re not going to be unbiased in how the tests are set up.

For the most part burying a rifle in loose dirt does nothing unless you pack dirt into the mag well and open bolt.

That lower was spent. Replacing it doesn’t make the original a serviceable rifle. At least they were honest enough to show where the rifle would fail.

  9. Made it through the first 50-seconds for the preview. I laughed.

      Now that is some torture.

PSA has made strong moves into the AR market and has done so without lying or bad talking other brands (cough Spikes cough LaRue cough). However, companies like Colt, LMT, BCM, DD, and Centurion remain the trusted AR companies. Perhaps if they are more transparent in the quality of parts (stop offering different tiers of parts) and get their CS under control they will earn a better rep. Still alot of bang for the buck with PSA.

Kind of weak stuff until they ran it over/blew it up. The AR is a strong platform, it can handle being tossed around, caked in dirt, etc etc.

I really like PSA though, they have always been good to deal with.

  11. The range crew (Amy, Brent and Zack are shown) are good to go. The retail side is full of fail.

PSA is as decent as ANY other AR retailer- face reality folks, unless they are building all parts in house and inspecting them to MIL standard or higher , Daniels Defense, Colt, BCM, Spikes, and PSA source their parts from the SAME small source of base suppliers- I have the same square forge marking on my Colt 6940 as I do my BCM mid length , and the SAME key hole forge marking on my Spikes M4LE as my PSA rifle!!

What matters is the quality assurance- mpi / hpt testing of bolts and barrels, inspection for flaws , consistency checks of the smaller parts, response to its consumers; that’s what matters!

Despite all the fanboys ranting and ” urban legends”, I have yet to see any of the common brands when built to industry standards , fail!!( I shoot my BCMs, Spikes and Colts against with my best friend who has a DPMS, Bushmaster and an Armalite brand AR-15; his guns don’t choke and they are just as accurate
