20×8 Foot Tall Pencil Sketched AR-15 To Be Erased In The Name Of Art

Oh and of course this is to “help” the victims of the Newtown, CT massacre:

The artwork’s finished form is in the hands of the people who this is empowering. Will it be fully erased? How long will it take? The entire process, of both the drawing and the erasing will be filmed in time-lapsed still frames. A video will be created, and if time is remaining in ArtPrize it will be shown next to the piece. The video will be available for viewing on youtube. Look up erase.

Like all useless ideas… a mandatory Kickstarter fundraiser was initiated to raise money.   You can read more about this ArtPrize 2013 entry, titled ERASE at the link if you care.  Interactive installations… so hot right now… interactive installations.  2000 erasers to no doubt symbolize the 2000 deaths from high capacity assault clips which happen every second in the United States.

I like the idea of a 20×8 foot AR-15, but the whole “lets be edgy and get people to erase it” thing is yawn-worthy.  Plus he’s projecting the AR-15 then just penciling in what he sees… a 4 year old could do that.

If I was anywhere near Grand Rapids, MI I’d show up there with one of those giant erases ‘for really big mistakes’ and be like “FUCK YOUR ART PROJECT SON” and hit it with the quickness.

I think the hardest part about being a unknown artist would be convincing yourself that what you’re doing is actually worth getting up in the morning for, and that people actually care.

There are two other gun related entries at ArtPrize 2013… a low effort victims of gun violence shrine, and a cool looking fiberglass 1911.

Thoughts?

The shrine you referred to isn’t much of a shrine. It’s more of a bunch of sheets and a terrible projector. Way to commit. I bet they leave the shrine after like 2 hours and go erase the AR with the rest of the hippies and hope that they will actually go away.

Someone in the area needs to sneak in a pencil and redraw it.

    1. amen, that would be a real protest! We need a RE-DRAW the AR rally!

    2. Sharpie.

  3. The first thought I had was to redraw it, however, I think a big ass rubber stamp with permanent marker ink with “shall not be infringed” would be better.

    Try erasing that.

    1. Redraw it, but with a sharpie.

      “What now bitches?”

Over at TTAG they were tossing around the idea to draw on all the AR accessories onto it.

  4. I keep hearing about hear fully automatic ar15 bushmaster semi automatic killing machines. Was there like a sale or something I missed?
I don’t get how this is supposed to help anyone with anything, especially since the ar15 wasn’t even used in Newton CT.

    This shit is getting old.

    Nice. Shirt.

  6. “automatic assault rifle”

Well then lets just ban these rifles from military, police and manufacturers.
Normal, everyday people don’t have access to “automatic assault rifle’s”

    1. Matt-Agreed.

At very least automatic assault rifle is close to an actual definition of an assault rifle. But wait, that’s the same thing as a semiautomatic rifle right? Ugh.

    2. I was just thinking what he’d say if someone misinterpreted his piece as an anti-war statement instead…

Does this guy eat? Talk about starving artists.

  8. This is fucking retarded like the people who came up with it.

  9. I like the sharpie idea…but I’m thinking adding some cool accessories in the drawing would be an ultimate troll in sharpie. Rotating quad rail, aimpoint, beta-mag, shoulder thing that goes up and adding a rail mounted holster with, of course, a “Glock assault pistol” would all be awesome! Maybe we can find an awesome pro-gun artist to do such a thing (tactical drawings for example) and make a kickstarter to fund the upgrade.

  10. Anyone else notice the safety on his projected AR-15 is backwards?
Because the side he is showing probably doesn’t have a safety lever so he took it from the other side without inverting it. Cus he must really know about the “AR-15 Bushmaster automatic assault rifle”.

    1. My first thought was one of those derpy ambi selectors, but you are right… all of the positions are backwards. Safe should be pointing forward, auto is pointing back. Probably photoshopped, and he made damn sure to get that bushmaster logo on there!

  11. Yeah, my thoughts r that you r tne loser. Unable to admit how destructive these weapons are.

Agreed. Mine snuck out of the safe and almost killed me last night. If we could make them without minds of their own there wouldn’t be as big of a problem with them killing people. Oh wait…

The cleaning products under your sink are pretty damn destructive too… In case you missed the memo, ALL guns are destructive. They cause a controlled explosion that drives a projectile outwards at incredible speed. It is an extremely violent action. BUT, the caveat here is that the result of this violent action is based completely on the intention of the person holding the firearm. Many, many people own guns and use them safely every day for recreation or to defend themselves, without once considering using their firearm(s) to bring harm to others who aren’t trying to harm them. A bad person performing a violent act upon others is evil regardless of what weapon is used, the core issue is dealing with that bad person, not the inanimate object. Direct your anger and condescension elsewhere, my AR-15 doesn’t have feelings. Have a wonderful day.

  12. My AK drank all the vodka in the house and raped my neighbor last night. Senseless violence.

AKs are so rapey, it’s my biggest gripe with them.

On the computer screen about 1/3 of the way in, you can see what he’s doing with photoshop. Looks like he contemplated putting a bolt release over the ejection port cover and had the magazine release latch on the wrong side for a while as well.
