Anti-Rape Shorts – Rape Protection Through Textile Technology

Not sure if serious, but as usual there’s a kickstarter:

If I ever have a girlfriend, someday a wife, and then possibly a daughter, I hope they will want to learn how to use a gun and hopefully exercise their common sense… not rely on some stupid looking / restrictive garment.  What do I know though, maybe there is a huge market for this type of thing?  Talk about living in fear though.  The fact rape / rapists exist makes me so angry.  You guys know my feeling about the death penalty for things like this… I say light all of their asses up.  Maybe there’s a market for men’s anti-rape underwear too?  Just trying to lighten the feel of this post.

Anti-Rape-Shorts

Imagine if a girl got too drunk to remember the stupid combo and then had to go to the bathroom?  Yea that wouldn’t be pretty, you’d have to get the jaws of life in there ASAP.

You can check out the Indiegogo campaign for more info and to help the cause if you’re interested.

Thoughts?

stupidest thing ever, if anything this will just end in more kidnappings + rape where it would have been just rape.

plus that knife must have been dull as shit, i guarantee my delica ffg cuts through that band like butter.

im all for girls not getting raped, but carrying a gun is a much better approach than this stupid shit.

Anyone else think this will just lead to a lot more drunk girls pissing themselves when they can’t remember how to get their pants off?

I h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶p̶a̶i̶d̶ ̶ would pay 20 dollars, American, to watch a girl pee her pants.

I actually believe that most rapes are not really planned, and can be avoided if the the assaulter is disturbed. But let’s be clear, as they say in the video, it will not increase the violence of the assault, but it’s easy to understand that it will not decrease it!!

It’s actually a new solution to an old idea, I heard that an Israeli company had issued (years ago!) jeans with a reinforced, locked inner belt in kevlar or some sort of steel cable, which prevented to trousers to be taken off by force. Again, I think it’s only buying time before the dude start thinking it’s taking too long/too much trouble and just gives up…

If the girl is the target of a real stalker, sure it’s not this kind of device that will stop the assault (and rape) to happen.

Let me explain how the situation works out.

“Take off the pants.”

“No!”

Rapist pulls out knife.

(Outcome 1:)

Rapist cuts through safety mechanism.

However, I can’t seem to get the video to load…I gather from posts that this is some kind of cut-resistant fabric or some bullshit. So, let me present outcome 2:

Rapist puts knife to woman’s throat.

“Take off the pants.”

It’s like putting your money in a combination lockbox. If the person trying to take it by force knows you can get it open, the physical device’s sophistication and effectiveness are pointless if the attacker can just…get the combination.

Obviously, by carrying this reasoning to its logical extreme, the only real solution here is to incorporate bank vault time-locked design into these rape pants, so that the wearer can’t remove them on demand and they only open at pre-designated time periods for schedules pee breaks and for showering/changing clothes.

While we’re at it, let’s incorporate silent alarms and closed-circuit TV security cameras.

Hey, who wants to contribute to my new VaultPants project?

Yes, just like a safe wont stop a very motivated thief with time on his hands, only slow him down, these pants will not stop a very motivated/violent rapist. The question then becomes if this will work for a drunk/not so motivated/opportunist rapist? I say it could possibly slow down or stop an attack.

Frankly, it’s sad that such a product is even see as necessary. That said, I think this might not be such a bad idea, sure it comes with drawbacks, but so does concealed carry. Why not do everything you can to avoid rape?

This is not such a bad idea. It’s like your gun safe at home. Will _any_ safe stop the determined attacker that has all the time in the world to crack it? No. What about the scenario where the attacker simply forces you to open it? Does that mean it is worthless? No. It’s another effective layer of security. When seen in the light of proper security, that is, layers of security, including hardened entry points, a monitored alarm, etc. it decreases your chances of losing your valuables greatly. This is the same thing. Is it a replacement for situational awareness, a good can of OC spray, a gun, traveling in pairs? No. However, I think it’s a good added layer of protection.

As long as they don’t cost an arm and a leg (see what I did there?:) and they’re comfortable to wear, what’s so stupid about it?

I _do_ wonder how well this works for heavy women though.

I _do_ take issue with the advertising though. “Even if you get drunk…” which gives the impression that one can say “Oh, I’ve got my locking pants on, I can get smashed and not pay attention, I’ll be just fine.” Now _that_ is stupid.

That’s an issue with all “safety devices.” People want products to protect them from situations they’re unlikely to be in if they pay attention and follow the 3 Stupids rule.

That said avoidance doesn’t always work and you always hear that most rapes are by people the victim knows and this *could* be useful in preventing those I suppose. Can’t help but think that like most “security” measures this would only at best slow a committed attacker.

Sooo do they make a pair with a built in holster? That way they can be anti-bad guy pants, good for home invaders, muggers, rapists and scum bags in general.

I can see more of a market for this in areas where it is impossible to carry a gun. India comes to mind.

My fear is that in those areas, the inability of the attacker to get what he wants will INCREASE the violence of the attack. If the attacker gets the girl/man (yes, a huge number of men get raped (outside of prison) every year) into a secluded or semi-private location, what’s to stop them from just beating them to a pulp when they can’t get what they want.

Rape isn’t about sex, it’s about domination and power.

accept they’ve tried that and it just led to more rape+murders because rapist began killing their victims.

The death penalty has been around for millenia, for everything from petty theft to GTA, yet these activities have never gone away.

The simple fact is that people commit crimes only when they have developed a very high time preference, such that they either A. Do not consider consequences or B. Do not believe they will get caught.

This is why simply making punishments more draconian does not, has not, and will not ever deter crime.

I like the idea. It’s not going to prevent all rapes from occurring, but it is just another tool in a females arsenal to combat sexual assault. I’d much rather be “beaten to a pulp” then fucked up the ass by god knows who, who has god knows what disease.

Too bad its always the law abiding people who have to go out of their way to protect themselves. This kickstarter has it all backwards. It should be the convicted rapist and sex offenders that have to wear these. How do they go to the bathroom you may ask, a funnel in the front and a small hole in the back. The pants would automatically tighten if any effort is made to remove or shift them. Need to clean them, take a bath. Unfortunately, we continue to live in a world that grants more freedom to criminals making the innocent take ridiculous precautions to not fall prey.

What Ringo said… A good deterrent to being raped, is a mostly-sober woman who knows how to defend herself. And is aware of her surroundings in order to not put herself in a position of being surprised.

This is a pretty silly advertisement for a 21st-Century chastity-belt. I don’t know if it comes in the size of a woman who actually thinks she is a target. Most bar-girls dress a certain way for quick access, and don’t worry about their level of intoxication; They assume their gaggle/herd of friends will protect them.

This product will fail.

What if you get in a car wreak and the medics need to get you out of your cloths to bandage you up? Will Trauma shears cut it?

Reply

AHB November 8, 2013 at 04:35 pm

They probably have a 1/16 steel cable in the waistband. Some purses have the same cables in the straps as anti-theft against bag slashers. Good trauma shears will cut a penny in half. It should not be a problem for medics with proper equipment.

If I read correctly very few rapes are about sex they are about power. I don’t think such a garment would stop a power trip.
