Says Rosemary Boileau, a lady who apparently has a masters degree in counseling and experience in mental health:
Putting “guns, knives, and machine guns for sale” advertisements in people’s faces – especially those who are feeling hopeless, or worse yet, angry – is a recipe for death. So stop the suggestive selling because the bottom line is, you don’t know who’s responding to your advertising and what your ads may “trigger.” Or alternatively, expect that people will die, and don’t be surprised by it.

I saw this ad in the March 2010 issue of GUNS Magazine:

Two things immediately struck me as odd:
- It is being marketed as a good gun for home defense
- The ad is targeting women
Maybe FN Herstal re-thought this advertisement after it was printed, because http://www.fnhusa.com/FIVESEVENhomedefense6 does not go to any sort of relevant product page.
I don’t consider myself a ballistics expert by any means, but just like every other cartridge, I believe 5.7x28mm has its purpose. In my opinion, close range home defense is not one of them. I’d much rather have a bigger and slower round (9mm, .45 etc..) for that purpose, over a tiny fast one any day. The way I look at it, is the bigger the wound(s) you create, the faster the fight is going to be over.
There is a common misconception that all 5.7x28mm rounds will penetrate body armor. Although there are variants of the cartridge that will, they are not available to anyone outside of law enforcement. In January of 2005 the ATF released a letter to the public outlining the capabilities of commercially available 5.76x28mm ammo.
The only relevant reason I can see for targeting women in this ad campaign is the fact that the 5.7x28mm round has less recoil than other popular home defense rounds. The manageable recoil would allow for more accurate follow up shots.
The FN Five-Seven MSRP is $1317.19 (ouch!)
What do you guys think?

I am not anti-war, I thought these ads were neat though… very interesting concept.
The following 4 posters are designed to wrap around poles, campaigning for an end to the Iraq war.

That is the slogan that appears on the latest ad from Nike where the catch phrase is “Prepare for combat”.

There are two different ads. One that features LeBron James, and the one above which features Kobe Bryant. The Kobe Bryant one features the controversial slogan.
Nike says that the whole leaving something in the chamber is a commonly used reference for shooting a basketball.
Seems like a pretty deliberate way to get some press considering the locker room confrontation between those two Washington Wizards players in January brought guns and the NBA into the forefront.
Bravo to Nike for not wimping out and just going ahead with using a gun reference. They knew damn well it would cause a stir.
On a side note, their tattoo work for the ad looks like Dragon Skin armor from Pinnacle Armor:

 From Harper's Weekly, April 16,1904
Remember… Iver Johnson Revolvers ARE NOT TOYS: THEY SHOOT STRAIGHT AND KILL … but Papa says it wont hurt us, it’s absolutely safe, and an accidental discharge is impossible.
FACT: U.S. President William McKinley and Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy were killed by assassins using Iver Johnson Revolvers ( Source – Wiki )
Letting your daughter take a break from playing with boring dolls to play with the revolver instead definitely deserves a father of the year award.

Looks like they must have hired HK’s marketing guy for this picture:

Problems:
1) Guy in front has his rifle scope on backwards
2) Guy in front has his left arm through the loop in the sling
3) Guy in rear has his sling on in a pretty akward manner considering he’s planning on shooting his sidearm with his right hand
All jokes aside, the clothing acually does look pretty nice. You can check it out at their website – HERE

In an unprecedented ballsy move, Springfield Armory bought up a TON of advertising space on one of my favorite forums GlockTalk , and which I also happen to have a small ad on.
For those that are not familiar with Springfield, they are one of Glock’s main competitors, and have been working hard at getting their new XDM line of polymer pistols out there into the hands of both Law Enforcement and civilians.
I’m not sure if there are any users on GlockTalk that have not heard of Springfield Armory, but if they havent then it will be pretty hard to miss one of their banners.
The very top banner, and the middle one are on random rotation, but the right and left side banners are static and will appear on every page!
I wonder if Glock ads will start appearing on Sprinfield forums such as XDtalk? It’s your move Gaston… your move…
