Ever since the military and law enforcement started using m16’s and m4’s produced by Colt, the company developed an elitist status because they chose largely to turn their nose up at civilian market.

Now they seem to want a piece of the market, with the new AR6720.

The fact the pricing for the Colt 6720 is being based on serial number just goes to show that you can’t shake old habits. I don’t know if the tiered pricing was decided by Colt or by Clyde Armory (the exclusive retailer of the 6720).  The serial number in itself obviously only has extrinsic value… meaning no one really cares what it is, unless you can find someone pretentious enough that “NEEDS” a certain serial number that you possess.  Unless of course for this model, Colt doesn’t clean or calibrate their machines after the first parts are made.  I guess that would make the later ones less valuable? :P heheh

Here is how the pricing goes…

  • The least expensive guns are serial # 400 and up – $1200
  • Most expensive serial # 11 – $3000

#1 – #10 are apparently “spoken for”

I’ll admit $1200 isn’t TOO terrible…  like Solomon at SNAFU! mentioned though, it is still quite a bit higher than similar offerings from Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, Armalite etc…

I don’t ever like telling people what to do with their money, but in my opinion if you even pay $50 more for a #300 to #399 serial you’re making a big mistake. No matter what, you are better off buying a different brand name AR-15 such as the ones mentioned above, and spending the left over money on ammo or a red dot optic.

The book was published in 1909, so maybe chicken winging was embraced back then?

This police officer from Marble Falls, TX must have studied a copy of the book as part of her training.

Since the detachable box magazine was not widely used back in 1909, I’m sure the tip on putting your magazine in backwards was picked up by the officer from another source.

Suggestions to Military Riflemen is available at Amazon, but unfortunately it appears to come with a generic cover.  Hopefully there is plenty of chicken wingin’ goodness inside to make up for it.

I don’t know much about milsurp rifles.  Hopefully this is accurate and some of you guys find it useful though:

If your monitor isn’t big, and you click to expand the picture you probably still wont be able to read the fine print.  If that is the case, right click “save as” on the picture and download it to your computer so you can zoom in.

A military themed Rihanna video where she is in skimpy clothing, shooting guns, playing in the mud, standing on tanks etc…

Seriously what’s not to like?

8 people on a motorcycle?!

Now that’s what I called budget cutbacks.

If the guy standing up in the front happens to pass gas, that will be 8 cases of severe road rash to deal with.

For those of you that though the initial leaked price of approximately $1500 was too good to be true, you were right!

From the recent press release:

Suggested retail price: Basic $2,685 and Enhanced $3,061

The Bushmaster ACR for the commercial market is available in the Basic and Enhanced configurations.  The additional features for the Enhanced version include an AAC® Blackout™ NSM Flash Hider for exceptional reduction of muzzle flash; multi-functional, three-sided aluminum hand guard with integral MIL-STD 1913 accessory rail; and folding, six-position telescoping composite stock with rubber butt pad, sling attachment mounts and 2-point push button sling. Each configuration of the commercial ACR is offered in a non-reflective, black finish or Coyote Brown (30118).

I’m sure they will sell enough of them anyway, but at almost double the initial leaked price for the most basic model, a lot of people are going to be angry.

When I saw the face armor from MTEK Weapon Systems my initial thought was

“That’s a blank canvas, if I’ve ever seen one!”

Then I came across this the other day:

I bet once more soldiers get ahold of this type of armor, there will be some more creative and artistic designs.

Full auto shenanigans:

Want to see the hanguards on a M4 melt and start on fire?

Want to see the barrel on a M4 droop and then explode?

Those guys are having way too much fun at work

The M-4 carbine, one of the primary rifles used by the United States military, appears destined for a change. After concerns surfaced about rifles overheating in a sustained firefight in 2008 in Afghanistan, the manufacturer and the United States Army are close to agreeing on a modification to the weapon’s barrel that makes the carbine more resistant to the stresses of extended firing.

Bushmaster has their ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) website up with a countdown on it.  It will be released on January 18th, which is 1 day before the SHOT show in Las Vegas starts.

Check out the website -> http://www.bushmaster.com/acr/

Here is an ad that is going around (as usual click to enlarge):

For bulk purchasers, a new M-4 costs about $800 per rifle

I actually thought the cost would have been much lower.  A bulk price of $800 seems very steep.  I suppose these are not comparable to your average low end AR-15 though.

I thought this video deserved its own post, because of its awesomeness.  I can’t imagine anything cooler than shooting at things out of a helicopter.

The DVD comes out in February.

This video looks absolutely incredible.

That would be one course I would definitely want to take, more so than even the tactical carbine courses they run.

At the very least I will definitely be buying the DVD set when it comes out in Feburary.

From the description:

Found this video on a disk at the airport.
Looks like a promotional video of their ACR to be used at SHOT show.

Whatever it is, it’s pretty awesome.

For those of you that don’t know.. this rifle has changed hands many times before this up and coming release.  It first was the Magpul Masada, then Bushmaster bought it and renamed it to the ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) and is reportedly going to be catering to the commercial marketplace.  Remington will be selling a selective-fire version of the ACR to military and law enforcement.  Freedom Group Inc. is a large company that owns both Bushmaster and Remington.

drone-aircraft

Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes’ systems. Shiite fighters in Iraq used software programs such as SkyGrabber — available for as little as $25.95 on the Internet — to regularly capture drone video feeds, according to a person familiar with reports on the matter.

SkyGrabber looks like a very interesting piece of software.

From the SkyGrabber website:

SkyGrabber is offline satellite internet downloader. It intercepts satellite data( movie, music, pictures ) that downloadind by other users and saves information in your hard disk. So, you’ll get new movie, best music and funny pictures for free.

That is a direct quote… I didn’t make up that terrible grammar and spelling.

ErikPrince

Source: Vanity Fair (Nigel Parry)

Erik Prince, recently outed as a participant in a C.I.A. assassination program, has gained notoriety as head of the military-contracting juggernaut Blackwater, a company dogged by a grand-jury investigation, bribery accusations, and the voluntary-manslaughter trial of five ex-employees, set for next month. Lashing back at his critics, the wealthy former navy seal takes the author inside his operation in the U.S. and Afghanistan, revealing the role he’s been playing in America’s war on terror.

A very interesting read.

The National Security Agency (NSA) defines OPSEC as:

OPSECOperations Security – The process of denying potential adversaries any information about capabilities and/or intentions by identifying, controlling, and protecting generally unclassified evidence of the planning and execution of sensitive activities. – Source

People on internet forums love acronyms, and this one takes the cake.  What better way to show your fellow forum members  your superiority and lack of “proof” to back up a claim, than to call an audible when someone posts “Pics or it isn’t true!“. You’re response? “OPSEC”.

Here are a couple of pictures poking fun at OPSEC:

JFKm16_2

By calling attention to ‘a well regulated militia’, the ’security’ of the nation, and the right of each citizen ‘to keep and bear arms’, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason, I believe the Second Amendment will always be important.”

- John F. Kennedy, April 1960

Hell will freeze over before we would ever see Obama in a photo of comparable awesomeness.
