A retired Los Angeles police officer who sued a gun maker after his 3-year-old son shot him had his lawsuit dismissed Friday by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge.
Enrique Chavez, now 39, of Anaheim, was off-duty when he was shot on July 11, 2006, while driving his Ford Ranger near Harbor Boulevard and La Palma Avenue. His son, who was not in a car seat, got a hold of the father’s .45-caliber Glock while sitting in the back seat and shot him in the back, according to police reports.

Terrible thing to have happen. I’m sure he thought he’d win the lawsuit… but I’m glad he didn’t, that would have set a terrible precedent that would only further inconvience responsible gun owners like the rest of us. Last thing I want is more safeties and warnings all over my guns.
Just goes to show how you need to keep your guns secured around kids because things could go bad in a split second.

TAMPA, FL – A Tampa Police officer was caught on tape walking his horse through a crowded Ybor City bar, and the police chief said she approves of it.
The 37 second video was posted on YouTube and shows a mounted police officer walking his horse through Habibi’s Hookah Bar on 7th Avenue. A woman is heard screaming in surprise as the horse rounds a corner into her path.
Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor said, “It’s good public relations.” However, one business owner complained about the practice.

WTF? Good public relations? Haters gonna hate I suppose.
I know police horses are really well trained an all, but this just seems like an unnecessary risk taken simply to showboat the officer’s authority.

In 15 years as an NYPD undercover cop, “Stevie Gunz” spent Sundays kneeling in the presence of the Lord. The rest of the week found the preacher’s son knee-deep among sinners.
The now-retired cop flaunted the colors of the Crips and the Bloods, buying dope and sawed-off shotguns while working the city’s streets and housing projects in a bulletproof T-shirt.
Before turning in his shield two years back, the native New Yorker earned his nickname by helping take nearly 500 guns off the street, testifying at 55 trials – and never firing his gun once.

Worth the read. It’s part 1 of a 3 part series… I’ll post the rest when they come out.
Interesting chart presented in the article (shown below)… I can’t say I’m surprised at any of the guns on the list:

I am a little surprised no rifles made the list though.

This dog was first chained to the trailer, wagging its tail. The only aggression shown by this dog was after it was re-chained up to a pickup truck for about 10 mins. Yes, it panicked when the catch pole came out but that is to be expected. Most animals will panic when a catch pole is looped around their neck by a stranger. The dog was shot once then seemed like it was wagging his tail before it was shot the 2nd time in the head.
The officer shoots the dog at around 5:28
How sad. I hope the guy who shot the dog doesn’t have his job anymore. That is outrageous.
I wonder why they even bothered pointing the camera at the area where they were going to get the dog from. Is that standard procedure now if you have the time to do it? Seems to me like it would be in the officer’s best interest not to record themselves doing anything, because any criticism they would get, could just be swept under the rug. I am really glad though, that incidents like this DO get caught on video.

Police bodyguards protecting the Royals and the Prime Minister are being armed with ‘baby’ guns in a bid to recruit more women officers to the role.
Often seen as a ‘girl’ gun in the hands of female detectives in TV programmes like CSI Miami and Criminal Minds, the Baby Glock is smaller, lighter and easier to use for those with smaller hands.

If you can’t shoot a Glock 17, you aren’t going to be able to shoot a Glock 26. Giving the women the option of the G26 as their primary gun is a mistake if you ask me. The G26 is approximately 1.25″ shorter in height, which make make it a bit easier for some of them to hold, but the barrel length is around 1″ shorter on the G26 which isn’t a great when accuracy is paramount. I’d much rather see them train on both guns, and have the G26 as a backup. Another big downside is the fact that the standard capacity of the G26 is only 10 rounds, compared to 17 rounds for the G17.
From my personal experience, the G26 is much more susceptible to malfunctions; especially when it comes to limp wristing my full size Glocks are a lot more forgiving. Anyone else find this as well?
Finally, I could be wrong, but I doubt there are too many women out there that are thinking to themselves “I’d love to be a police officer… if only the guns held less ammo, and were a bit shorter for my little hands”

Yes, adding a stock to anything increases the stability of it, but If I saw someone pointing one of these things at me from a distance i’d be seeking cover not making assumptions and remarking “oh those crazy Bluetooth sniffers, up to their same old antics”

When the police act as though cameras were the equivalent of guns pointed at them, there is a sense in which they are correct. Cameras have become the most effective weapon that ordinary people have to protect against and to expose police abuse. And the police want it to stop.
The legal justification for arresting the “shooter” rests on existing wiretapping or eavesdropping laws, with statutes against obstructing law enforcement sometimes cited. Illinois, Massachusetts, and Maryland are among the 12 states in which all parties must consent for a recording to be legal unless, as with TV news crews, it is obvious to all that recording is underway. Since the police do not consent, the camera-wielder can be arrested.

Absolutely insane that laws like this were able to pass. Police are public servants who are being paid to enforce the law. Pretty disgusting that some of them think they can break the law and suffer no consequences.

New York Mills, NY – Shortly before 1 p.m. on that Thursday afternoon, Dickan walked into the cellular phone store on Commercial Drive, with a .357 magnum in his hand, and a list in his pocket containing the six names of the AT&T store employees to which he was holding such deep anger, and planned to kill as a result.
Authorities believe Dickan could have been even more successful with his list of six victims, if not for the instantaneous actions of Rome Police Officer Donald J. Moore, who was off-duty, but in the store as a customer at the time of the shooting. “He heard and sees the gun, draws his weapon, and fired,” Lt. Little said of Officer Moore’s reaction.

Man there are some crazy people out there.
Pretty awesome that the armed off duty police officer was able to save at least 6 lives. See, guns save lives too, it works both ways.
That’s the 2nd story in the past few days that has involved AT&T and guns. The other was the man in Oregon who tried to shoot out the tires of a getaway car of some robbers who stole multiple iPhones.

New York City - Cops are livid over a legislative proposal that could handcuff the brave officers involved in life-and-death confrontations every day — requiring them to shoot gun-wielding suspects in the arm or leg rather than shoot to kill, The Post has learned.

LOL when I read that I double checked that I was on a legitimate news site, not some satire website.
Vice President Joe Biden, who scoffed and suggested it be dubbed “The John Wayne Bill” because it demands sharp-shooting skills of the kind only seen in movies.
I don’t agree with Joe Biden often, but he is right on the money with that statement!
A big problem with laws like this is the fact that the court system is going to be even more clogged up with family’s trying to get rich off suing the police because their son etc… should have been shot in the arm or leg… he shouldn’t have had to die!
Also, It appears that no one that is proposing this new bill has any idea how the human body works. There are arteries all over the arms and legs, and if you get hit in any one of those you are on your way to dying very quickly.
Nothing like giving criminals more rights
If this passes, I bet lots of cops will decide to retire early.
(The picture I used in this article is the same one that the NYpost used. Pretty interesting grip the guy is using, the old “2nd hand holding the wrist” hahah nice.)

Chicago, IL – Police say the four suspects had pulled up to the home of officer Thomas Wortham’s parents at 85th Street and South King Drive in the Chatham neighborhood about 11:30 p.m. and tried to steal the motorcycle that Wortham had recently bought himself as a coming home present. He had just served his second tour of duty in Iraq.
The father grabbed his gun and came to the aid of his son, who had announced that he was a police officer, sources said. In the exchange of gunfire, Wortham was shot several times and two of the suspects were wounded, authorities said. Retired police officers are allowed to keep guns, officials said.

Absolutely terrible
I don’t know how Daley thinks banning guns is going to prevent situations like this. This goes without saying… but criminals will always be criminals.
I’m glad his Dad was there to put a few holes in at least 2 of the suspects anyway. Not that that is any sort of acceptable trade off for losing a son.

Chicago’s rising homicide rate spiked on Tuesday with a murder-suicide that left three people dead and three more bodies found in a car. Police Supt. Jody Weis knows that he will ultimately find himself on the hotseat for the surge. But, he’s got a new defense. He’s creating a new category of “indoor” homicides — and downplaying what police can do about them…“Those homicides that are outdoors — the ones that I do believe we have a good possibility of preventing — we’re around 98 homicides for Chicago outdoors. That’s as low as it’s ever been, except for 2007, when I believe we had 97 homicides outdoors as of this date,” he said.

Officers made the decision that the deer was a public safety issue:

Police reportedly received dozens of complaints from the public after the shooting. Internal affairs investigators will look at whether police followed department regulations and policies regarding taking an animal into protective custody and dealing with an animal that could be injured, police said.
During the incident, police contacted the state Department of Fish & Game, but the warden overseeing the area was more than 30 minutes away, said Fish & Game spokesman Kyle Orr, and the officers thought they had to act sooner than that.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado. - Police officers are investigating a bizarre crime spree that started after a man reportedly got mad over a Wii game.Witnesses told police a man went after several people in the Meadows Mobile Home Park with a bat, bit his mother on the ankle, intentionally rammed several cars, and hit a pedestrian and a tree.
When the victims followed the driver, after a short distance he stopped, got out of his car and allegedly used a BB gun to break out the rear window of a vehicle, according to the police report.

That guy is just straight NUTS. From the picture in the linked article, looks like the police might have drove his face into the ground. No doubt he was probably fighting them even after he got tasered.
I wonder if he shot at the vehicle to break the window, or he he used the BB gun itself to smash the window? I haven’t shot my BB gun in a long time, but I don’t remember it being that powerful. I suppose BB gun technology possibly has come a long way.

YAWN…

On S&W’s website – HERE
Details in the PDF Brochure – HERE
Someone tell me why I should care about these? They look like a Sigma crossed with a M&P. Interesting how S&W chose not to design these with removable backstraps.
Maybe the “Self Defense Trigger” (SDT) is the selling point? Who knows … anything would be an improvement on that scratchy mushy M&P trigger. The design of this “new” trigger looks the same with the joint right in the middle, so I’m not holding my breath in anticipation of it being awesome. I’ll hold further judgment until I try it out someday though.
The price is predictable … both have an MSRP of $530
Thanks but no thanks… For now I’ll be sticking with Glock to fulfill my polymer pistol needs.

It turned out the man was not the robbery suspect, and the officers let him go. OOPS!
Racial profiling at its finest. I hope that guy that got stomped and insulted cashes in bigtime on that bullshit.
“You got me? I’m going to beat the (expletive) Mexican (expletive) out of you homey. You feel me?”
Cameras are the best thing that have ever happened to the general public.

Long Island, NY - A low-budget indie film shooting inside a Long Island convenience store got a dose of real life drama last night when a passerby mistook a robbery scene for the real thing and called the cops. Twenty officers responded to the call, and when they arrived at the scene, they saw a man pointing a gun at another man behind the register. The director was filming from the back of the store with a small high-definition camera and no movie lights, so it was not immediately clear to cops that they were charging into an imaginary holdup with guns drawn.

I would have assumed in the movie business there would have been measures taken to make sure things like this don’t happen. Possibly some signs would have helped?
