Dog Takes Bullet to Save Family

CONNEAUT, Ohio – Michelle Pryor said early Monday morning their German shepherd Sirus began barking so she let him out and was stunned when she heard gunfire outside the home.  Sirus got shot in the chest and on the muzzle between his eyes.

Full Story – HERE

The dog sure doesn’t look any worse for wear in the video, I’m he is alright!

It’s stories like this that make me wish I had a dog.  German shepherds are my absolute favorite.  I’d have a couple of them in a heartbeat if I had a big yard for them to stay in.

Have any of your dogs helped you in a similar incident?

  1. Great story…but do you see how they down play the fact that a gun owner defended the family in the end and although the dog warned them, it was rather easily nullified…a firearm is the equalizer. A dog is just an alarm system.

  2. Ditto, my dogs would sure try their best to tear up anybody that’s going to try to hurt me or the wife, but they’re really too small to stop someone for good, they’re only 70 pounds between the two of them. The best part about them is that they’ll make real sure we know anybody new is coming anywhere near the stairs up to our door. Best early warning systems ever.

Interesting quote from the homeowner: “They know that the sheriffs are getting laid off”

Actually, they know that the chances of someone having a gun, knowing how to use it, and being willing to use it are small; whether there are 4 or 400 deputy sheriffs on duty is irrelevant, because their only function would have been investigating the robbery (and likely homicide) after it took place.

The worst part about this is that the attempted robbers aren’t taking celestial dirtnaps now.

Yea I always am disappointed when I hear that a dog or a gun “scared” thieves away. I’d rather the coroner was busy all the time with dead criminals.
