Free Online Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) for .EDU

The Students for Concealed Carry on Campus Board of Directors is pleased to announce that for all of empty holder protest week (Now – April 10 @ 11:59 PM ET), there is an opportunity for anyone with a .edu email address to obtain a FREE CHP TRAINING COURSE for Virginia. Both residential and non-residential permits are available in Virginia.

Online training is valid under Virginia law for a Virginia CHP permit (VA Code §18.2-308 (G)(7) and (P1)(7)). Education and training are key goals of SCCC. By making training available to students, faculty, and staff on campus, we will further a goal shared by both sides of the gun rights debate: to educate about the core safety aspects of firearms and self-defense.

Here’s what you do:

1) Visit: http://www.onlineconcealedcarry.com/
2) Register with a .edu email address
3) Use the following discount code: 923726
4) Finish the course before April 10 @ 11:59 PM ET.

Upon completion of the course, you will be given a printable certificate of completion. Instructions on how to submit this certificate to Virginia authorities is available at: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms.shtm . Please note that you will be responsible for any state fee(s) and compliance with all legal standards that Virginia requires.

A Virginia CHP permit is currently valid in AK, AR, AZ, DE, FL, ID, IN, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, and WV. Please note however that currently Michigan (MI), South Carolina (SC), and Florida (FL) only honor permits from residents of the issuing states.

Sounds like a great opportunity.  By the sounds of it, you don’t even need to live in Virginia to take advantage of the offer, since non-residential permits are available.   All you need is an .edu email address.

I encourage all students, faculty, and staff of colleges and universities to take advantage of this offer.

I applaud Students for Concealed Carry on Campus for making this happen,  and wholeheartedly support their cause.

Remember you only have until Midnight until April 10th, if you want it for free.

As always, I recommend the book by Massad Ayoob (pictured left) for anyone that wants to read up on concealed carry.

I’m not convinced that my card will not be charged upon form submission. Any mention of this offer on SCCC’s webpage?

It was in the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) email newsletter. You can find it here http://blog.vcdl.org/index.php?/archives/912-VA-ALERT-VCDL-in-the-newscode-for-training-class.html
I would have thought that once you added the discount code, it would have just set the balance to zero.

Just registered and took the course. You DO have to provide CC information, but if you enter the discount code your card is not charged.

Thanks for the link, we’ll see how this flies for an Ohio resident.

After completion of the course, how long before I must apply for a CC permit?
I haven’t seen anything on the websites.
I’m kind of stuck in another country until August.

Not sure Martial. I couldn’t find any mention of an expiry on the Virgina state police website. You might want to call them just to make sure though.

Mike, thanks for helping me out. I didn’t find anything online about the expiration or whatnot.
Since I’ll be applying for one within late August, I figure I’d be within a 6 month range. I’m assuming, not bright of me I know, that I’ll be able to apply successfully without haven’t to retake a class. Nonetheless I passed the AFT tests with 100% total! I’m happy I actually learned some things about firearms and new terms.

I don’t think I’ll call Virginia since, I’m in Japan – a wonderful country for civilian ownership of firearms (not) – and don’t want to waste time or hassle with time-zones. lol

Thanks again Mike! Endo is the best.

Thanks for the tip! I am planning to get the non-resident VA certification. I live in TX but then I would have both a TX & VA CHL. That should help to keep me legal in more states while I am traveling.

You’re welcome. I agree, the reciprocity is nice to have when travelling.

You said it was no cost and no credit card needed. The price is $19.95! Why lie about it?

Let me just say that I feel misled by this advertisement. In no section of this advertisement does it say that the offer is only until April of 2010 it just reads “April 10” and again “April 10th”. If that is the case than this site should have been removed and/ or the promotion code deactivated.

I interpreted the message here that this was a valid offer until April 2011 and used the promotion code. Even though every single test I took as well as the final exam shows free once completed, my credit card was still CHARGED $49.99!!!

This isn’t an advertisement this is a blog post. If you looked at the date you’ll see that I wrote it last year.
