Top Shot – The History Channel

In each episode, contenders will face team and elimination challenges inspired by real events in history, from Wild West shootouts to modern-day sniper missions. Every challenge will reveal the weapons, technologies and tactics of a different era, while hi-speed HD cameras capture the skillful execution of each test with breathtaking precision in extreme slow-motion. One contestant will emerge with a $100,000 prize package and the title of “Top Shot.”

By the look of the trailer, some of the competitors seem to be cocky bastards, so it should be entertaining enough to see their egos taken down a notch. Just like survivor, I’ll be rooting for the person that keeps their attitude in check, and can win and lose graciously.

The series starts June 6th at 10 pm on the History Channel.

  1. Is that a Mosin? For real? And a Desert Eagle?Cause everyone thinks about Desert Eagles when they think accurate handgun?

One last thing, why is there a 15 year old? I’m putting my money on him. He’s clearly played lots of video games and as the media has told me those things are murder simulators so he’s clearly going to be the most skilled.

haha yea Desert Eagles are synonymous with long range accuracy. :P

  2. I see what you’re saying about them being cocky bastards. Looks like a lot of d-baggery going on there. Based solely on that little clip, I’d like to see the woman win – “I do alright… for a girl.” She seems to say it with some confidence that doesn’t come off as arrogant. I like it.

Yea the girl is my pick too so far. It says there is 16 of them though, so hopefully there are some others not shown in the commercial that are likable.

  3. This should be really good! I’m looking forward to it.

  4. You have to give them credit for being so damned sure of themselves they positively ooze assholeishness. And you bloody well bet it will be great to see some of them go down in flames.

I would wager that the firearms were dictated by the show organizers, rather than the attendees – cannot think of many folks who would put up a hand-thrown spear against any manner of firearm in terms of accuracy or range.

I am somewhat disappointed that Caleb (of Gun Nuts fame) did not get some face time, though – should be interesting to see how long he lasts.

I figured they would all be preforming the individual challenges with the same weapons. But I guess we will have to wait and see…

  5. I couldn’t find an official (or unofficial for that matter) website for this, besides the Facebook page. I was hoping to find some more information about the contestants and their backgrounds. All I’ve found so far is discussion of it on various blogs, and most of that didn’t offer much; maybe I just haven’t found the right site. I found the following blog with some video auditions for the show. I have such a slow internet connection that it’s too slow to watch them all. I let the first video download and watched it though. This guy has a real nice collection of firearms.

Yea there is no info at all on the History Channel website at all. I guess they don’t release info about the shows and have a website for them until closer to the air date?

I watched some of those audition vids on youtube. Some of them are nice, but others are down right ridiculous.

  6. Ill watch just to see how well the guy does with his Deagle.

    1. “I call myself the sniper”… while he’s aiming a deagle… that i gotta see :}

LOL i know.. it should be great!

  7. yea, great for a laugh (Ha ha)

  8. The traiiler mentions they will try to repeat historical shots. So my guess is that they’ll get to try things like Billy Dixons long range shot, maybe Carlos Hathcocks “scope shot”, and other shots like that, using different weapons.

I’d give them a pass for now for the cockiness in the trailer, that could be editing. Interview someone for a long time and keep asking them why they should be there, and you’re bound to get at least one soundclip that sounds arrogant.

    Jesse:
As the 15 year old contestant, I appreciate your positive (although likely sarcastic) thoughts about my experience. Although I’m not much of a video game nut at all, I’m sure the time I spent playing Halo and Counter Strike will pay dividends.

    Mike:
To answer a question there isn’t currently a place with bios or any real information about the contestants. In the facebook fan page that was started for the show someone has asked us to write short shooting bios, but no one has yet done that.

There is a very good mix of talent and personality on the show. I heartily recommend you all watch it.

  10. […] If you didn’t already dislike Adam Benson enough, he is quoted saying “I am the last great American Hero” not only in his Biography on the Top Shot website, but those exact words also come straight from the douches mouth in the original promo video. […]
