The Shooting Range Gun Rental Loophole

Gun stores must check the criminal background of anyone buying a gun. But no check is required if someone rents a gun to use on the store’s shooting range. In fact, a background check is not even allowed for rentals. Gun stores don’t have to check a renter’s ID, fill out paperwork or even write down a name.

I dont get it, they’re so scared of criminals renting guns that they cant take outside, but isn’t joining the military even worse? If I recall, there is a big problem of street gangs joining the military to “practice their aim.”

The gun range I visit takes your drivers licence when you use the range, rental or your own gun.

Looks like a Ruger MkIII 6″ to me. I have one of those and love that gun. It’s a pleasure to shoot and very accurate.

Should be a provision for “members” who can undergo say, a yearly check, which I don’t know if I agree or disagree … it’s a common sense thing, but it’s also infringing upon rights. I’m a member of a glub and there’s a dealer in the bunch, and only deals with members of the club. He’ll bring guns for you to try out, providing ammo (purchased), or bring your own. He’s never far, either, and keeps a safe range. Not like stores with ranges, and real rental racks.

Really scary, there’s no real “good” solution for any party. Minus more altert employees to suspicious behavior, and even that leads to scary hypotheticals.

At the range I like to go to the staff are actively carrying, always. The range happens to be right next to the police department.

At the range I go to they have a wall of guns you can rent-just fill out a form. They also have CCTV on every lane, and an employee in the range area watching as well. I like it because the last two handguns I bought I did so without getting to try them first, they turned out to not work as well for me as I thought. I mean you always test drive a car before deciding to buy it-why should something you buy for self defense not be tested first?

Awesome! Getting to try before you buy is such a great way to sell guns.

Every range I’ve been to, the RO has had a full holster. As long as he’s staying alert, that strikes me as good enough.
