California Open Carry Ban Heads To The Senate

The so-called open-carry movement took a hit today when the state Assembly approved a bill that would forbid anyone from openly carrying an unloaded handgun in public.

The Assembly approved the bill 45-25 with nine members not voting. It now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Full Story – HERE

Ugh.. Brutal. I was hoping it would miraculously get squashed.

Do not speak ill of Californian firearms enthusiasts.

http://www.calguns.net and the Calguns Foundation are alive and well.

They may be alive and well as enthusiasts. But DCanoe’s comment about the lack of lobbyists is apparently very valid.

      1. The lobbyists are dead or have run. and no amount of angry letter-writing on our part is going to sway the hold that the Bay Area Leftists have on the state’s senate. That said, Ms Saldana’s (the bill’s sponsor) numbers are not looking good for re-election so some good may yet come of this.

  3. ……just starting carrying bo staffs……….

    I’m just saying…

    1. But yeah, this is a load of Bull

Hopefully not everything gets banned before I get into shooting. Turning 18 this year and hope to get a decent gun…

“forbid anyone from openly carrying an unloaded handgun in public.”
So you can still carry a loaded gun in public? o.0

Yes, the bill specifically mentions handguns. As such, unloaded rifles and shotguns are fair game.

Which means if/when it passes I’m going to In-N-Out with my mosin. There’s still hope it won’t pass, our best chance of killing it is in the senate. Find your district and write and call your state senator. I’m pretty sure they’d listen to an engaging 17-year-old much more closely than the hordes of 40-year-olds with beer guts.

Granted if it does pass it adds a *lot* of leverage to the Calguns Foundation’s Sykes v. McGinness lawsuit. Hoping a rights-stripping bill will pass is just wrong though.

OCing loaded firearms is already banned.

  5. Ca is no longer parts of the US they do not obey federal Laws nor have any respect for the constitution. We can’t have guns without massive restriction, but you can smoke pot, you can live here indefinitely without being a US citizen. Whole Cities can break federal laws by being sanctuary cities to illegal immigrants. The State Calls for a Sanctions on AZ for instituting Federal Law. I think the US should call for sanctions on Ca. I could go on and on but why bother. The politicians do what they want, they do not listen to the people. We try voting them out just to have some other schmuck come in and fail to deliver on what they promise. Soon I feel the honest citizen will not be aloud to protect themselves. If you do protect yourself in public you will be charge with a gun crime then they will be able to take all your guns. That’s their goal. (take a look at real life http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=330_1229875947 ) Unless things change this is the way Ca is headed. I cant wait to move.

I did move. I was born and raised in SoCal, Left CA for TX in 2005, never looked back. Got my SBR, a can and all the toys.

Lets just hope some of the anti incumbent fervor hits California– hard. That or it falls into the sea.

    1. Good for you.! Sanctions on AZ…figures dont it?

I doubt either will happen. Idiots will ruin it till it goes broke and drags us all uner, and then move to other states to do the same.

Progressives / socialists or what ever you want to call them are like locusts. They breed, consume, and spread to the next fertaile place, leave it in ruin.

  7. “You are making it official that gang members can carry weapons,” Assemblyman Kevin De Leon, D-Los Angeles said to colleagues who would vote against the measure.

How is it in any way allowing gang members to carry weapons? Its like laws against drinking openly in public areas. you can slip it in a paper bag, or CONCEAL it?

I never did enjoy living in California much. I like it here in Texas a lot more.

  9. This is shameful. California really is completely in the grip of idiots in the State House, and has been since Mark Twain’s time! The first thing the Bolsheviks did in 1917 after the Russian Revolution was ban private arms (except for Communist Party officials). Wait… that sounds like Chicago under the Daley Regime, or New York, and now California.

Breaking the law is a serious business, but it may come to that if you need to protect yourself.

Write to your State Senators: http://www.sen.ca.gov/

Vote them out of office in November, those weasels.

I lived in California from 1992 to 2005. I participated in the California Rifle Association and it’s activities and was ruthless on line. About 10 years ago, give or take, the state legislature held hearings on a shall issue concealed carry bill. No less than John Lott and Suzanna Gratia-Hupp spoke at this hearing, others less well known did as well, presenting a compelling rationale for passage.

    It failed massively.

This, and other similar reasons, compelled my wife and I to relocate OUT of California at my retirement.

California is, in genuine fact, doomed.

Thanks Teabaggers. You just HAD to go pushing it by bringing them to your protests, didn’t you? Way to ruin it for everyone.

Yes, blame them for the actions of legislators. So much for personal accountability.
