Man Shot After Loaded Gun Stored In Oven Explodes

Atlanta, GA – Boutte fired up the stove at his College Park home around 3:30 a.m. Saturday — heating up the .40 caliber Smith & Wesson along with it, a police report said.

While the food was cooking, the weapon’s magazine started to melt in the gun well, the police report said.

This caused the spring – and bullets – to come out of the magazine.

The bullets started going off like popcorn.

  1. lol, I guess it was the first time he tried durabake =P gets injured, chemical smelling food, and a ruined gun…. what bad luck

  2. Well, gee, what does someone think happens when you put what amounts to high explosive under high heat? They don’t call it “cook-off” for nothing.

  3. I store mine in the freezer … no problems :p

Good location! Although my freezers are so jam packed that i’d probably either never be able to find the gun, or else I’d open up the door and it would fall out and hit the floor.

Can say that I am all for the hiding of firearms in accessible places (in a safe manner) but that’s a little.. not.

I agree. Unless you N E V E R use your stove (and maybe even have it unplugged), then that’s a bad idea. All it takes is for one of your friends to be over and wanting nachos or something and someone else goes and turns on the stove and KABOOM.

I’m sorry but anyone who takes information from Mythbusters or any other cable TV show is a moron. Yeah sure they got a result out of it but if you listen to the story in the beginning, it wasn’t just one bullet. I’d like to see a few boxes of .45 and not just a single bullet carefully placed.

Mythbusters has probably prevented a startling number of accidents by informing people. I agree, it would have made for better TV if they put a whole box in the oven!
