Quality Arms Ambidextrous AR-15

According to their website the starting price is $1295.

It’s too bad they don’t get into the upper / bolt market separately… I’m sure they would make a killing if people could just buy that and not a whole new gun.

Video of it in action – HERE

It’s weird when you can see right through the upper when the bolt locks back!

  1. Sounded like he couldn’t use any proprietary pieces, so I imagine that the upper/bolt can’t just ‘plug-in’ to an off the shelf AR-15.

I don’t get why he “wasn’t allowed to use proprietary parts” according to the video. I think the narrator probably meant to say that no proprietary parts existed to do the modification he needed to do.

At 1:03 it sure looks like a standard AR-15 lower.

  2. Its good to see Ron Jeremy found somthing to keep himself occupied.

      hahah

  3. just an after thought but i wonder if the extra ejection port has any noticable cooling benefits

  4. Probably, but that’s offset by the potential for crud ingress.

  5. looks to me like he just milled out a left side ejection port and put flip up ejection doors. not sure i like the fact you can see the firing pin retaining pin via the left ejection port. nothing i couldnt do. its mostly bolt in parts he put on the gun i dont care what the clip says. if you want this rifle buy a left eject bolt from stag, Osprey Defense OPS-416 kit, drop in trigger and ambi safety. funny thing is he doesnt have a ambi mag release lol.

Yea it does look like he just cut the hole for left ejection. hahah I didn’t notice it until you pointed it out, but that is hilarious he doesn’t have the ambi mag release.

  6. KAC SR-15s are all ambi…and not made by a some quack.

many companies make AR-15s with ambi controls… this one is special because it can either shoot right or left (eject from the preferred side) by switching out the bolt.

  7. Interesting idea but not entirely a new concept.

Judging by his accent this guy grew up in England, probably near London, but has lived in the US for several years. I expect he has a background in engineering. Wonder what the rest of his story is?

  8. They made is sound like he was the first guy ever to plate the BCG in something shiny and that the piston driven AR was his idea. I would expect this kind of reporting from back east but in Idaho they should know better. Also it looks like both duct covers open when you fire. I wouldn’t want hot gas exiting the rifle towards my face, but that’s just me.

I agree it definitely looks like it has some downfalls to it. Pretty useless buy too unless you share your rifle with a person that doesn’t shoot the same way as you. Who shares a rifle though? The way I see it, lefties have the brass deflector… it seems to serve the military well, why over complicate things.

That said, I still think they could sell a lot of parts just off the novelty alone.

  9. I think that as he gets more work into the gun that it has potential. Like both ports being open while shooting. I shoot long guns left-handed. Being able to have brass fly from the left would have its advantages.
The Army has most all weapons setup to be right-handed, so that if someone else picks up your weapon that it will function for them. I am in NG; I shoot a regular M-4, and have had no problems with brass.

To all who took the time to post comments I would like to inform you that Quality Arms has developed an ambidextrous AR15 with the knowledge it can be used by any user and was not meant to be used by one individual user. With approx 20% of people being left handed a small police or security company can purchase one gun and if that gun is used by say a righty and leaves the dept and is replaced by a lefty then it can be reconfigured for the lefty to use without the additional expense of purchasing a new rifle for the officer. As to gas in the face some simple understanding about gas piston systems needs to be addressed. When using a gas piston system NO I Repeat NO gas from the gas tube enters the upper receiver as no gas tube is used hence Gas Piston, Duh We are manufacturing Billet uppers and the first batch have been anodized and teflon coated and will be available in the next few weeks as a kit as well as complete rifles and will start at $995.00 complete. The upper will have automatic opening doors and will use a standard unmodified right operating bolt and carrier for the right eject and our special bolt for the left eject. The upper was designed to be used with a gas piston system but can be used with a gas tube and standard carrier and yes gas in the face can be a problem for some but you are asking a lefty just to put up with it with a standard upper.
