Shooting A 5.56 mm Round Through An AK-47

Mixing calibers is not something i’d ever recommend trying unless you want to possibly hurt yourself. Interesting to see that it worked (this time) though.

And if you’re asking yourself: “Self, where can I get us one of those pimptacular shiny chromed AKs?”, the perpetrators are Classic Arms in NC. Warning: 1996 era web page design.

Yes I know, I would like a garish and gaudy AK.

If you go to his YouTube page – http://www.youtube.com/user/CrackNinja#p/u/6/RamkLJm3954 – there is a followup vid showing the spent brass.

The best part is at the end when he starts to look down the barrel. This should be titled Future Darwin Award Winner caught on video. That was totally tacticool y’all!

He should look down the barrel before firing next time. Wow the crap people will do to be on video. Maybe he should take up ball room dancing, could be a little safer.

Not only did they spend money on an awful looking AK, they also went to the hassle to stencil some ass-tastic design on the magazine as well.

I knew this was going to be ree-damn-diculous when I saw that shiny AK and ‘tribal’ magazine, and the shooter with his tacticool vest and studded belt. Oi, that’s the way it goes with knuckleheads.

Oh jeez, that reminded me of a range trip I had the misfortune of having:

A while back, I brought my uncle and cousin to the range to shoot the WASR-10 they had on the wall. Since they were from Chicago, I went to show them the basics. The guy at the register handed us the rifle and a box of ammo and we left to get to crackin’.

I fired the first round and found that the rifle had an FTF. Confused, I recycled, chambered another round, and fired. Looking at the target, both rounds struck the paper traveling sideways.

Turns out, the guy at the counter handed us a box of 5.45×39. I was so pissed, heh.

But the fact alone is that I can attest to the non-kill-the-user abilities of an AK even if one is using incorrect ammo.

On a related note, there was a video on YouTube floating around somewhere where some fool was firing 9×19 out of a stock Makarov: Failed to battery, but still fired.

Am I the only one who ever noticed that 7.62×39 will aaaaaalmost go into battery in a Glock 22?

I have a .40 IMI Jericho…

If I don’t make a follow up post, send the paramedics.

Well Ill will admit, I sorta did this once, didn’t fire. I was shooting one of my AK’s, while my friend was shooting his Bushmaster Patrol. Both using Wolf ammo. Green steel case. Needless to say, a lot of rounds on the plywood bench, some how a 5.56 mixed in with 7.62. Add some gabbing away and not paying attention while reloading mags.

In short, chambered but didn’t fire, then an Oh Sh*t upon further examination. Learned a lesson there about keeping ammo a little more separate.

Back in the ‘teens or twenties, the fun and bored government employees at Springfield tried firing a standard fmj .45 automatic out of an m1903.

It actually worked, the .45 bullet swaged down to .308.

And it’s possible to fire .308 out of an ’06 as well, IF the extractor holds it back or the case is deformed slightly to keep it back against the bolt face.

NOT recommended.

That’s pretty crazy that it actually works. Sounds like it might be kind of hard on the weapon(s) though.

Accidentally inserted a .38 Super magazine in my .45 ACP 1911 once, and sent 1 round (of .38 Super) down range. The firearm did cycle, but sounded weird upon firing, and did not successfully rechamber a new round. A good reminder to all present to PAY ATTENTION. No damage to personnel, machines, or range, THANK GOD!

Hehhe yea that’s the kind of mistake you hopefully only make once.
