Costco Prepares You For SHTF – Food Only, No Guns

You can read what’s included at the Costco site – HERE

Knowing how good most of the food tastes from Costco, I say this would probably be better than MREs if you are in the market for purchasing a SHTF type food cache. The price looks reasonable too.

It’s pretty amazing that a person could actually stay alive on $800 worth of food for a whole year.  I’m almost embarrassed to think how much $ worth of food I eat in just one month.

I’d like to see Costco have a Part II to this kit, that came with a few different types of rifles + assorted magazines + and ammunition.

  1. Just out of curiosity, I’d like to see someone actually eat nothing but that stuff got a year, by choice…

  2. Something like this could be useful, too, especially since these things require water to prepare.

Good call.. that looks like a good barrel.

      1. Actually, you can get similar barrels for less online:

Not sure exactly how they compare, though.

I see it’s the barrel only in that 2nd link you posted. Once you add on the pump, hose, fittings etc. it looks like it would be about the same as Costco.

  3. It’s a SHTF kit for vegetarians.

Where’s the beef? Bacon Textured Vegetable Protein? That ain’t right.

  4. A lot of the longer storage stuff is vegetarian. I know it is cheaper to make, and I’ve heard it holds up better over the years of storage

  5. Here’s the beef (and other meats). 25+ year shelf life, too.

      heh no kidding. :(

  7. I haven’t gone through and checked prices on everything yet (but I’m curious enough that I might), but I think you can get everything in this package from this website:

I’ve never gotten anything from them, but have always been curious to. Someday I’ll have to try it. I’m not sure what the shipping would be like for it though! I think I’d rather have the option of figuring out what I needed/wanted for a food supply though. I think it’d be worth a little extra to have some choice.

    1. I downloaded their spreadsheet/price list and looked for the stuff on Costco’s list. The only thing I couldn’t find was the chocolate flavored drink mix. I was surprised that it was so much more though. My total amounted to a little over $1,260.

Cool. Glad to see Costco isn’t trying to gouge the less informed.

I bought this when it was, ahem, $999 and augmented it with some canned meats, cheese, and butter. Also more buckets of grain. Be careful with canned meat, the best ones don’t add water/broth but instead cook the meat in the can. Best site I have found for that is http://www.internet-grocer.net/.

Please don’t be like a lot of nimrods I see post on prepper forums, “I’ll just buy a lot of guns and ammo and be okay.” Sorry, you can’t eat ammo — what you’re telling everyone is you’ll take what you want at gunpoint.
