Oregon Man Almost Gets Owned By A Black Bear

Glide, OR – Wyckoff said he fired a round into the bear’s forehead, but the animal kept coming and climbed on top of him. From beneath, Wyckoff said, he got off three more rounds.

Then he tucked the gun beneath the bear’s chin. But it quit. Wyckoff, left-handed, said he had accidentally released the ammunition clip.

ugh clip… Operator fail! Glad he made it.. that could have been a lot worse if his buddies weren’t there.

The best part of the article is “His .45 is covered with teeth marks but still works.” .. I bet he’ll hold on to that gun forever.

  1. Good to see that he says Hell yes to hunting bear again. Although I’d reconsider the type of handgun for protection. IMO, DA Revolvers always seemed like a a good handgun in these situations: strong, and doesnt have a magazine to accidentally release, rounds to jam, or an external safety to fiddle with

Yea I agree. After hearing this story I don’t think I’d carry anything with a mag in that type of environment either.

  2. […] is why I want a bigger sidearm for the field Via EDNO, some guys go bear hunting and despite a high degree of lead ingestion, the bear just keeps coming. […]

I so want to see the .45 covered with teeth marks! I’m a huge fan of Rugers in general and imagine that a nice Alaskan in .44 Magnum would’ve done admirably here. I’ve always carried a DA wheel gun as my hunting partner, though normally a Ruger GO100 4″ .357 as we are bear scarce hereabouts.

  4. This is why I carry a 10mm with full power loads. A .45acp lacks the penetration for a bear’s skull IMO.
