Obama Supports 2nd Amendment And The Rights Of Sportsmen

A gentleman who had expressed concern about the newly-elected President’s stance on the Second Amendment. The writer, a sportsman and conservationist, asks of Obama:

“…I’m a strong supporter of gun safety and mandatory hunter education lessons…We (sportsmen) already almost entirely support wildlife conservation, through present hunting license fees, taxes, waterfowl stamps, habitat stamps…If you make hunting ammo/guns so expensive that we cannot afford to hunt…where will the funds for wildlife come from?…Are these (legally bought sporting guns and ammo) a primary contributor in the majority of crimes?…Are we law abiding Sportsmen going to have to pay the price for another problem? I only hope that prior to your making decisions on bans, excise taxes, laws, etc. that you look at the facts proven historically by other countries’ attempts to control gun violence. Most recently…Australia imposed a ban/surrender law forcing individuals to give up their firearms, which the Government then destroyed….The Results? Within 1 years’ time, homicides up 3.2%, assaults up 8.6%…homicides with firearms are now up 300%! Can you please put my mind at ease…“.

Obama responds , in full:

I believe in the 2nd Amendment, and the rights of Sportsmen like you. Period. Sincerely Barack Obama“.

  • If you want to own that piece of history, it’s up for auction – HERE Yikes, it’s expected to fetch $8000 – $10000!

It’s funny how everyone (myself included) was so worried he would screw around with a lot of gun laws… but it turns out Obama = best gun salesman ever.

There has been a few positive gun related comments from him. One that sticks in my mind is when he told the Texas Christian University’s national championship rifle team that he practiced shooting with the Secret Service.  I wonder if he ever shoots for fun with them?

  1. Unfortunately, the lefties claim that he “really does support gun rights” because he signed the bill that re-allowed National Park carry.
The reality is that this was something attached to an unrelated financial reform bill.

hehe yea that just snuck that National park part in.

  2. The only question is what Our Glorious President defines as “sportsmen” – just hunters, recreational shooters, target shooters, people who practice in order to better defend themselves, IDPA shooters, what?

And, worse, why must one be a “sportsman” in order to have one’s rights be defended by one’s President – that is the road England and Australia went down (in that you had to be a member of a shooting club to own firearms, and you eventually had to leave the firearms at that club), and we all can see how that is working out.

Shooting criminals should be an Olympic sport, not just a fringe one. :P

  3. Leftist are systemic lairs.

The man so full of Bravo Sierra is coming out of his dumbo ears.

Look at the mans history in the state senate, and the us senate.

Leftist/ Communist/ Statist MUST lie about who they are and what they want, otherwise they will never move their agenda forward.

I know this will sound weird, but Obama has actually been good for gun laws, thought not through any intentional action on his part. The whole National Park carry thing is just the tip of the iceberg.

For example look at Arizona. He recruited Janet Napolitano for DHS, leaving the governor’s seat to Jan Brewer. Better border enforcement in CA and TX left AZ with all sorts of border problems, leading to the death of the rancher in the southern part of the state, which led to the passage of SB 1070. Everybody was so worked up with 1070 that the passage of ‘constitutional carry’, that is concealed carry without a permit, became a side item and it was able to pass without all the scrutiny it would have gotten from the anti-gun folks because they were too worried about 1070. That and it would have never passed with Napolitano as governor. There were also numerous other good changes made to the laws in Arizona at the same time.

Obama hasn’t been able to get any anti-gun stuff through because it would be political suicide for everyone involved. Backlash from his policies unrelated to guns caused Democrats to lose seats all over the country, not just in Washington. Now Wisconsin, a state that bans any concealed carry, looks like it’s going straight to constitutional carry now that democrats lost hard. Pro-gun laws are being passed all over the country.

Gun ownership has climbed considerably, and all those people who didn’t own guns before are willing to fight for their rights and vote accordingly. They all need training, and that gets them involved further in the community when they do it.

If anything Obama has been very good for gun rights.

  6. Before the ’08 election, he was trying to tell people he was pro-life also. For the love of God, with the internet at our fingertips there’s no excuse to not be informed.

    You’ve missed a zero there ;)
