Kel-Tec KSG Bullpup Shotgun Overview

What they fixed since it’s debut at this year’s SHOT show:

  1. The trigger reset fail has been fixed.  Good to see they listen to their customers!
  2. They put cutouts all over the top of the ammo tube, so you could see how much ammo you have left. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I’d prefer to have it less easy for dirt and dust to get in. The idea is good in theory though.
  3. Updated action release lever.    Looks good, but not intuitive if you’re used to how other shotgun makers do it.
  4. Quick release choke adapter in the works.

It doesn’t look like it’s that quick to load, which might be a problem for some high speed low drag guys.  For range use though it’s probably a non issue.

The design is really growing on me, I’m looking forward to trying one out someday.

  1. yeah, I JUST watched this a few days ago and thought the same thing: dirt and open tube = not a good combo. But for ~800$ the deal is pretty hard to pass up

Exactly what Jeff said; If they want their cute little viewports, then they need to lexan those puppies. Again, as Jeff said, $800 for a bullpup pump shotgun with a 14 round capacity is pretty damn good.

I third that sentiment with a caveat; a polycarbonate window is best, an open port may not be *for some users*. I’d bet 90% of all KSG owners will never get so much as a splash of mud on that gun, even if we imagine it using under extreme conditions.

On the other hand, if the overall mechanism is robust and doesn’t have overly tight tolerances (and honestly how tight do the tolerances need to be for a pump tube?) then the ports that let dirt in also let dirt out. Again, how many of us are going to get that f#$%@ng Iraqi dust blowing into our weapons all day? Even hard users like SWAT teams shouldn’t expect too much mud getting slung onto their weapons.

  4. I want one idc what anyone says about the brand thats a bad ass shotgun

  5. I’m going to jump on the no peep holes in the mag tube band wagon… Maybe little windows would be nice, such as with the Magpul p-mags?

  6. Why does it seem like this shotgun recoil is harsher then most?

Yea I noticed that too in one of my other posts on it. Maybe it has something to do with the nature of the bullpup design, where the chamber is only about 6″ from his shoulder, rather than 1.5 feet.

Actually, physics say no. Semiauto shotguns tend to be gentler than pumps or break-opens, but odds are they’re just firing hot loads.

        1. It could be hot loads, or it could just be balanced differently. With the mag(s) farther back, it keeps the mass of the unfired rounds closer to the shoulder, thus providing less torque to tame muzzle rise.

So maybe not more recoil, just a little more muzzle rise? Hard to tell from the video. I sure would like to give it a try though.

  7. I still want one of these. That green one is awesome. I agree that I’d rather not have the viewports in the tube, but hey, it’s a pump. Releasing end of the year….seems so far away…

I like the overall design, but I agree with you on the port holes in the mag tubes.

  9. It kinda looks like those windows were filled in with polymer to me. (shiny)

    1. well the forward windows anyway

Looks like a handy piece of kit. Too bad the guy doing the talking came across as if he had his sack resting on a mousetrap! Seemed a bit nervous/unsure and sweaty palmed. Am I the only one here who felt sorry for the fella? It was borderline uncomfortable to watch! 14rnd pumper? Me likey!
