  1. I think it was Gizmodo that reported it was rigged as a prank. Don’t know how true that is, though.

    somebody let their charge packs get wet…

    round would not have armed at that distance…

      How do those get armed anyway? Is it from rotations when it’s spinning through the air?

    2. Modern U.S. mortar rounds, perhaps. But, who knows what the design is of those rounds they’re using. Remember that scene in Saving Private Ryan where they strip the propellant off the mortar rounds, slam the tails against a crate, and lob them at the enemy?

  3. Not so funny, had a ground mounted 4.2 do similar with WP on a Ft. Stewart range in ’78, round lazily arced about 30 meters…whole gun section dove behind/below cover. EOD was out within the hour…
