11.17x54r Ball Ammunition

The back story:

I don’t remember what I used to expand the mouth, some tapered piece of metal I had laying around that did the job perfectly. Then I stole the .44 ball from my brother’s black powder stuff and glued it in.

I keep in with my ammunition display, and it’s convincing enough that people often ask me “what the hell shoots that?!” I usually come up with some line of BS about a hinged chamber that clamps around it. I’ll tell them that the neck acts as a venturi that increases the velocity of the expanding gasses like a rocket engine’s nozzle, while keeping chamber pressures down.

Rivals the 7.62x19mm cartridge I posted about last week.

I also just decided I want a wooden grip glock in this caliber.   The wood is to give it a retro feel.

It’d still be cool to see something chambered in it. Single shot rifle or otherwise.
And that does look very convincing O.o

I keep envisaging something like a 1800 Springfield using this – I can see you flipping up the breach and dropping it in! The idea of a ballistic shot (ball) would be fun in a long gun – but hey what a fun conversation piece.

Hey mike,
Would a wooden glock in this caliber be a “Flintlock Glock”

Actually, this would be close to a fireforming load for one of the larger Finnish wildcats of the 7.62x54mmR.

Well that was unexpected… I usually stick to gunnit, but I still come through here every few days, only I’ve never seen anything of mine on this blog. I feel internet famous now! I’ve still got the “round” sitting right here in front of my keyboard, haven’t put it back yet after posting that pic.

Thanks for blogging it, gave me a good grin when it scrolled on the screen!
