Meme Related Custom 1911 Grips

“The Cake Is A Lie” pays homage to the video game Portal:

The grips are gun are owned by Calguns member mossy.  He had them custom made for $175 from HandmadeGrips.

If I owned anything with removable grips you know i’d have to pick up a set of gold inlay “Haters Gonna Hate” grips to wear when I strut around open carrying.  Possibly even some white grips with a gold troll face on them.. yea that would be tight. :P  JMB is rolling in his grave.

If you’re into that kind of thing, it looks like a good value for $175 considering all the hand fitting and finishing that appears to go into each set of grips.  I see there are also grips above $400, so I imagine the more customization you want done, the higher the price.

What would you hypothetically put on your custom grips?

I actually have a set of grips from them on my Springfield Champion. I have Mother of Pearl, silver, gold and brass inlay with a photo of my late wife and her name.
They are baller as shit and totally worth the money.

I find it just ever so slightly ironic that he makes grips for a gun based on a game that has NO GUN in it. Whats next? Cooking Mama inspired AR lower? Bejeweled AK handguard? Guitar Hero Glock slide?

Actually, that last one sounds pretty cool. Maybe I can get Ted Nugent in as a venture capitalist on it…

The game has turrets that shoot bullets, so it does technically have guns in it (even if you don’t count the “portal gun”). Just sayin’…

Ski September 16, 2011 at 11:25 am

The turrets don’t actually discharge the cartridge though. According to Cave Johnson they fire the whole bullet… 65% more bullet per bullet!

The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device is refered to as a “portal gun” due to the fact that it “shoots” portals. No firearms would be allowed past the Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grill, which may, in semi-rare cases, emancipate dental fillings, crowns, tooth enamel and teeth. I do think the Guitar Hero Glock idea would sell like hotcakes though. Plastic guns for people who like plastic guitars. It’s a no brainer.

Okay I want grips with the “Companion Cube” design on them now.

The first portal is currently being offered for free, which is a good thing.

I was also going to post this information. There is no reason for anyone to not own portal except for a gross failure on the part of the person who doesn’t.

If I could do it and if it could fit (on a 1911 or Sig P226), my “hypothetical” custom grips would say,
Right: “This is pain
Left: “disguised as a dream”

It would be in silver.
On something like this, http://www.handmadegrips.com/image/cache/de42-1200×1200.jpg
If I couldn’t get the font to fit normally, then I would make it fit somehow, even going from top to bottom.

If I couldn’t get that, I would get something simple with a picture of Conway Twitty on each side. With the text starting from right, “I see the want to” then to left, “in your eyes.”

Somehow I don’t see any reason to have something that says, “Look at me, I’m a bad mother fucker!” I would rather have something that makes people think twice or thrice about violence (of any nature). It’s even better if my hypothetical grips make someone laugh. “Haters gonna hate” would make me laugh, but if you were to ask me to reflect on it deeply I might need an hour or so.

Did you see when I posted this:

https://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2011/01/26/conway-twitty-tribute-1911-pistol/

Doing your Conway Twitty grips with that would be a overload!

Reply

Frank September 16, 2011 at 11:53 am

I totally forgot about that!! :D
But I still remain true to my stance: it’s important to have a song name (or lyrics) on the on the grips (or slide). Otherwise, it’s just going to be a tribute to Conway Twitty… That’s a bit much.

My hypothetical grips would say something like…

“.45 caliber pistol- 2d10 dmg”

“+20 fire damage on crit” (powder burns)

Bright, tractor-enamel yellow with red lettering
On the left: “ALWAYS ANGRY”
On the right: “ALL THE TIME”

and the Angry Marines logo on both slides.

Reply

Cameron September 16, 2011 at 10:47 pm

I’d have the Aquila engraved on the slide, Litany of Accuracy on one grip side, and Litany of Protection on the other grip.

Reply

Todd S September 17, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Nice. Maybe the Litany of Hate on the slide?

Bleh. Given how clean-lined and futuristic the game was, the frillery and foppery on the grips is a bit… much. Good idea, no doubt, just not a fan of the execution.

And me, my budget for BBQ grips is about $200. If that.

I’d get one for an H&K pistol that reads “LOAD ROUNDS THIS DIRECTION” with an arrow pointing in reverse.

apock May 18, 2014 at 05:31 am

I’d get “to whomever it may concern” on a set of 1911 grips most likely in a mother of pearl inlays.
