Act of Valor – Trailer

Up until 30 seconds I thought this movie was about blogging:

When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.

Looks like plenty of operating going down in that movie.   You guys have no idea how bad I want to run on the top of a partially submerged submarine in the middle of the ocean. Shooting an enemy douchebag in the face while one of you guys catches the body to mitigate the splash is pretty high on that list too.

Release date: February 17th, 2012

  1. ….but, if they’re active duty how’re they in a movie?

I also think they should rename it, “Tacticool: The Motion Picture.”

    1. I wondered that as well, Don’t they usually black bar the faces of special forces personnel? Maybe they’re retired???

      1. I don’t know, but I’m getting a really creepy propaganda vibe from this film.

It’s one thing to honor and support our troops, but it’s a completely different thing to deify them.

  2. God damn you Poppy your more active duty then these guys as soon as ENDO posts your there, but hell yes this looks like the Tits.

  3. Meh. Inevitably as realistic as they can make it the highlight of the plot will be some hollywood massive explosions/loads of gunfire/michael-bay-designed end of the world scenario. People won’t go see a movie that’s about “We don’t like these guys, go kill them, come home” there’s no dramatic tension in that.

  4. What about the Lone Survivor movie that was in the works?

  5. Why are Navy Seals so “look at me” I’m special ops ?
Not to speak badly of the great things they do, but they are far more over-glorified, then they should be. Seals are among the most problematic Special Ops force I have ever had to deal with, at times great at running and gunning, but suck at everything else, and foul up a great deal of Special Forces and MARSOC missions.

Funny, they still like the steal the Army Special Forces motto “quite professionals” regularly, yet they appear on a “look at me, I’m tacticool” movie, and are always loud talkers, all entirely similar to the Seal douchebag on TopShot.

  6. Looks like a great movie simply because i love all things military, guns, weapons, vehicles, explosions, now as long as it has nudity it will be perfect! IMO lol

get em Jeremy!I’m not HSLD myself( i tried lol), but I’ve got some buds who are. They(Marsoc) say the same thing about Seals. I had a ITC instructor tell me “Seals are over hyped, and use “more ammo” as a solution for everything.”Ofcourse this wasnt them just talking shit for its own sake, they had been asked and responded honestly.

Seals are obviously PT monsters and awesome at amphib stuff, but dont get the UW/FID training SF and Marsoc do.

  8. Interesting read about the making of the movie in the Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111904787404576528293606172306.html

  9. Again, not to totally dismiss Seals, but it’s true they lack the UW/FID and of lately COIN skills greatly required at the moment. Seals still have a large DA mindset, and are roughly smashing that thinking into operations that don’t require such. They have of late in small numbers been taking some Army Special Forces schools, but I haven’t the number or purpose for which. However, if Seals want to be integrated and better accepted in Special Operations, and especially be used in Joint Operations. They must rid themselves of this “look at me”, and start adopting SpecOp skills.

It seems not fair that if Rangers are not fully considered part of Special Operations, then why are Seals, they are virtually the same, especially now, when you have Seals doing less water operations and more air, doing raids, and HV targets, much the same matter as Rangers.

I hope the movie is decent, but I get the feeling, it’ll set a wrong impression of Special Operations, we already get the public mindset of a bunch of “special” guys doing a bunch more killing and blowing up, with even less control, as it is, we just get to do it, with less grooming standards, fancy parachutes, and sometimes a dune buggy with 4 Mk19s on it.

Anyways. I wish all soldiers, regardless of what type, the best.

  10. Active duty soldiers have been in lots of high profile productions lately, the Transformers trilogy comes to mind right of the bat.
