Kitchen Gunsmithing

The gun store guys are back to making fun of their customers:

The icing on the cake was the 1 ringed scope mount shimmed with toothpicks and woodchips.

I’ll admit I didn’t do the best job when I chopped the forend of my 870 down so it didn’t overlap the receiver.  That’s about the only sort of botched home gunsmithing job I’ve ever done… everything else has turned out great.

Got any of your own stories of botched jobs you can admit doing, or have seen done?

If this is your first time seeing the guys in the video, check out 20% Price Increase When Asking For A Glock Clip to see them make fun of their customers some more.

  1. lol, I actually like these guys, but mostly cause I like watching people making fun of other people on the internet. And I would totally visit their shop.

I don’t really have a problem with home kludges of any kind, as long as they are safe. Sometimes you just need something to do a particular job and it does not have to be pretty. With firearms it important to know that performing a kludge is probably going to destroy the value, but its your gun so go for it. Just don’t forget to post it so we can all laugh.

  2. arent these the guys who brought us the lost art of waxed slugs?

      Yes.

      Great video.
      The moral?
“Do something to the BEST of your ability.”
And if it’s shoddy work, hire someone.

  3. I’ve taken a couple of used $50 shotguns and chopped the barrels down to the minimum legal length. actually the single shot 20gauge I cut down turned out ok.

    1. It’s pretty hard to screw up a shotgun, particularly a break action.

I miss when it was just Iraqveteran8888 doing weird home gunsmithing. If he wants to show more of the store, make a store channel.

But yeah this vid made me laugh. XD

  5. Ok, the scope is a big failure. The camo tape may not be applied perfectly, but oh well, it probably gets the job done, and can be taken off easy enough. The tape holding the forearm on – seems to work, and it doesn’t look all that ridiculous. Remember what they say – “If it’s stupid but works, it’s not stupid.”

Josh up there stole my line! Haha but I’ve got a single shot 20 gauge I chopped down and spray painted black (it’s tacticool!) and the sling on my Mossberg is an old belt, some clothesline, and glue (I did not glue it directly to the gun. It’s removable.).

  7. That’s it. I’m going to get a job at a gunsmith’s shop just so I can document other such atrocities and start my own blog. PossiblyI’ll get a book deal later on.

    1. I’m going to get a job at a gunsmith’s shop…

This isn’t a gunsmith shop though, it’s a pawn shop! Who would ever imagine that in small Georgia community of less than 5,000 people, where the median income for males is only about $30K, you’d find people who make absurd repairs/modifications to firearms and then head to a pawn shop when they need money. I don’t think a pawn shop is a place where you’re likely to find real smart customers (in the overall scheme of things).

Thats an interesting comment, you think only the rich little mall ninja airsoft operators make absurd modifications to their weapons? Are you inferring poor people can’t do stupid things on 30k? You are disregarding the power of Southern Engineering or in my part of the world Ozark Engineering. In most small towns the pawn shop is the only gun store unless you count WalMark. My nephew worked at a pawn shop, amazing how much money one can spend pimping out a HiPoint and how disapointed they would be when they were turned down trying to pawn it for 1k even though it had at least 2.5 k worth of custom mods executed by the finest craftsman in the hollow.

        1. …you think only the rich little mall ninja airsoft operators make absurd modifications to their weapons?

I think the exact opposite; I don’t know how you didn’t understand what I was getting at. What I’m hinting at is that a small community where people have low incomes is precisely where I would expect to find absurd, cheap “modifications” like these.

Are you inferring poor people can’t do stupid things on 30k?

As the writer, I can only imply. It’s up to you, as the read, to infer. What I’m implying is that people with small incomes have little disposable income. Those with little disposable income are more likely to try to fix or modify things the inexpensive and, usually, incorrect way. I’m also implying that people taking things in to a pawn shop to borrow money against or to sell are usually doing so because they’re desperate for money. Usually they’re desperate for money because they lack intelligence and have failed to manage their money properly. If they’re pawning something, it’s because they’re so bad with money that they are unable to obtain credit, and to pay their bills they have to pawn something that they own for a brief period of time (much like the people who take out payday loans). If they’re selling it, odds are they are also desperate for money, because if they took a little time to sell their items themselves (eBay, Craigslist, etc.) they could receive a much better price than a pawn shop would give them.

Ozark engineering? nice. I live in ozark county gainesville missouri. was wondering if you were refering to the area. we call it nigger riggin. the other day i was sight in my 270 for the up and coming deer season. and i had a feed sack to shoot at when i got the the place i was gonna shoot at i realized i didnt have anything to hang it with. so i took the knife i kept in the farm truck and stabbed the top of the bag into the tree. it was a little windy and i needed something to hold the bottom down. so i got a big stick and stuck it in the ground and against the bottom of the feed sack. perfect nigger rig.

          1. we call it nigger riggin.

That’s one of the initial phrases that came to my mind, but I wasn’t going to be the one to go there…

I have a shoelace sling on my mossburg 410. I call it my snake charmer, it has a pistol grip. I put the shoelace on so i could carry it on my dirtbike. I like to hit the gravel roads of southern arkansas, put the barrel a foot from the snake and SQUEEZE.

Hydro dips hold up pretty well if they are done properly!

The sense of holier than thou and condescension in Josh’s posts is amazing. Why don’t you tell us again about how you took a I.Q. test in school, and then people told you how smart you are and you still believe them.

BTW, I hope I left you some grammatical/spelling errors to correct.

    1. Why don’t you tell us again about how you took a I.Q. test in school…

Why? At the time I said that it was offered in rebuttal to your assertion that I was a “retard.” It’s not relevant to this discussion. Interestingly, that thread was about these guys too. That’s ok if you’re in love with these guys, although I’m not faulting them for anything in this video. Perhaps it was my take on the level of intelligence of people who resort to pawning items and using payday loans that hit a little too close to home for you. Either way, it is of no consequence to me.
