Little Girl Identifies AR-15 Internals

Because numbers, colors, animals, and the alphabet are for wimps:

Cutest voice ever.  Best memory type game I’ve seen played with a kid yet.

Speaking of kids, i’ll be a pseudo uncle in a few days once my girlfriend’s brother’s kid is born.  Pretty excited to see him; they are naming him Ashton. Fun fact: They were originally spelling it “Ashtyn”, but after everyone harassed them (terrible I know haha) they ended up changing it. Also google images yields some pretty LOL worthy results for Ashtyn (ie. male model Ashtyn Long)

Am I the only one whos just a TINY bit disturbed. I like guns and all, but arnt there a lot better things to be teaching your little one. She can learn about AR-15s when shes 7.

    1. Anything that gets a kid to learn how to speak and recall words is a good thing. It’s not like shes training to shoot up her preschool.

Not saying that theres anything wrong with guns, or that shes learing bad behavior. It’s just that there are better things to be memorizing. Also, I like to think of guns in the same way I do sex, everyone knows about them by the time they are 8 (at least). But I think that heavy knowledge of guns does take something away from innocence just like having the birds and bees conversation.

Not that there is anything wrong with sex or guns, just that I don’t think either is an appropriate subject for a 5 year old.

        1. She’s 2 for 1 thing, which is why I think this actually makes the case FOR this kind of learning. Listen to the words she’s able to say: ‘Buffer’, ‘Carrier’, ‘Firing’. What children’s media is able to teach multi-syllabic words to a 2 year old? By assigning these complicated words and phrases to tangible, independent objects, she is able to learn and recall them through visual recognition. That is a pretty heavy concept. He could have used another machine, but since guns actually go together like a jigsaw puzzle and can be disassembled and reassembled many times without tools it makes a perfect learning medium.

Hey everyone. I am Ruby’s Dad. I appreciate all the nice comments and can even appreciate the not so nice ones. When we did this, she knew her ABC’s, her colors, most shapes and could count to 17;). We read to her often and nurture her interests. We praise her when she does good and show her when she does wrong. She is our only child and it is hard not to spoil her. At the same time, she will learn that 2nd place is not as good as first. I hope to show her off more in the future.

Right on! Hearing her little voice talk about gun parts is just the cutest. Make sure you email me (address in the sidebar) if/when you come out with a new gun related video. Thanks!
