LAPD Officer Shines Weapon Light At Protesters

“Oh it’s dark over there, and I can’t see… why don’t I just aim my loaded shotgun with a flashlight mounted on it in that direction.” – Definitely the start of a good idea right there, i’ll have to remember that.

Beanbag loads or buckshot, it really doesn’t make a difference.  At that range a beanbag would kill a person just as dead.

Occupy peeps love when cops mess up, perfect opportunity for a witty chant.  I bet a bunch of them got together after that and filed a formal complaint, which no doubt will be subsequently laughed at and filed in the bin labeled “trash”.

Thoughts?

  1. The stock on the shotgun is orange, which means it is less lethal. There is nothing shocking or surprising about using a weapon mounted light to identify a threat/non-threat.

    1. Yeah, because the four rules don’t count if your stock is orange. Less lethal and non-lethal are the same thing, right? I’m sure a less lethal round within ten feet won’t cause any permanent damage.

    2. We had a Portland Oregon officer kill a guy with a less leather (orange) shotgun that he loaded buck shot in. I guess he didn’t know what rounds were in the gun.

      1. oops auto correct error I meant lethal

But, the shotgun had an ORANGE STOCK, meaning no matter what ammo is in it it’s “non-lethal”. /sarcasm

  2. normally I side with the cops, and was there any inherent danger of him pointing his weapon? No. It appears he at least kept his finger off the trigger. However, he did violate one of the 4 fundamentals. That, and the shotgun has a sling, and he should have a flashlight on him.

Knowing how these protesters manage to use everything against the cops…

Why are the protesters still there? This is getting old…

    1. Because protests don’t work that way. No matter how you feel about it, it’s still a protest, and sometimes they gotta go on for a while before things happen.

I totally agree with the fact that he should not have pointed any type of weapon at the protesters. What was he thinking, could there have been a reason? The protesters are not close to becoming a mob. That is the problem with media and these folks. They don’t understand that by the officer being there, HE is in danger. His life is on the line, because there are folks whom would use this as an opprotunity. Some folks don’t get it.
I feel no simpathy for the postesters, glad my tax dollars allow them to do nothing for weeks on end.

Of all the videos you’ve seen come out of this, how many were of cops misbehaving and how many were of protestors delivering a beatdown or otherwise endangering police lives? I typically side with the police but in this case the physical aggression has been entirely one-sided.

      1. True.
It’s part of the concept of the state having a “monopoly on violence.”

  5. “Don’t worry about it” What a prick.

  6. I’d like to know the exact procedure and code of the LAPD that he violated. Common sense and respect may have been violated.

  7. I can’t stop thinking about Hickok45 when the guy says its just a flashlight, don’t worry about it. Like Hickok says, I have an attachment for this… haha!

It’s just a flashlight with a shotgun attachment, no biggie!

  8. We don’t know what he was pointing the weapon at. Maybe he saw a need to ID a possible hazard? Also, I don’t think he pointed the weapon at the camera person. Just in his direction.

Without further information, it’s hard to side with either party.

  9. Yeah, basic gun safety. Same as “don’t use your scope as a binocular”, dummy!

  10. What’s worse, when that guys obvious lack of training causes a ND in some guys face the death will be called a good shoot rather then the murder it is. Shame there are people out there ok with these types of thugs.

It always seems amazing to me that folks like to judge before knowing the facts.
Anytime an officer is walking up to give you a speeding ticket, that officer has their hand on a firearm. Does that make them the aggressor? Or is that them being prepared for the worst. Being that they don’t know who you are, or what you may do. Officers working security detail should be applauded, so many things to watch for and to anticipate. Of course the media and protestors are not going to show you the bad-side of the portestors. That always gets swept under the rug. NO, he should have not used the light on the shotgun to see like that. No you should never use the scope to see distance in a crowd…. Dumb things happen, I am should he will get a day or two off because of the muzzling.

yeah pal……there is a BIG difference between an officer having his hand on his gun……..and an officer pointing a gun in my face…….

if a cop pulled me over for an average traffic stop…..and approached my car with his gun drawn, and pointed it in my face as he asked for my license and registration…….i would comply……. but ide sure as hell be on the phone with 911 the second he left my window.

i find it hard to believe that his weapon light was the only flashlight he had available at the time……assuming he only wanted to light up an area.

  12. “Anytime an officer is walking up to give you a speeding ticket, that officer has their hand on a firearm. Does that make them the aggressor?” No, But pointing the arm at them does.

Hey, I dont know if that cop who pulled me over is a Cop, or a criminal with a costume, and a lookalike car. You wouldnt act different If I had my gun at the ready, just in case, right?

“NO, he should have not used the light on the shotgun to see like that.”
Great point, Why all the rest of the hot air?

“I am should he will get a day or two off because of the muzzling”
And maybe a month off if he ND’d and killed someone, right.

  13. Californians are a bit slower than most people, but at least they are being educated.

I know that the less lethal shotguns we use will not accept lethal rounds.

You realize that ‘less-lethal’ still means lethal right?

Not to harp on MP stereotypes but seriously.
