I’ve blown up a lot of tannerite and I’ve never seen it look like that. That looks like there was something else in there that got blown up. Tannerite alone is a much cleaner, more violent explosion than that. Cool nonetheless.
Maybe a portion of the jar stayed intact enough to make the ring. Back in the day when I smoked it was a bitch enough to blow a ring.

I am the guy that filmed this and the targets used were called scarecrows (resembles a snap-tite earplug container), same formula as tannerite uses, AFAIK. I stacked (sticky backing) two on top of each other. Thanks for sharing this video! I have been shooting the stuff for years in AZ but moved to VA a few years ago and had these in an old ammo can with some other stuff and decided to see if they still worked. All but one went off and that was because it I shot the snap-tite part off and it spilled out. Keep shooting and STAY SAFE! – Cyko
