FPS Russia Shoots The AAC Honey Badger

People have been going nuts over this rifle:

I have no interest at all in the .300 Blackout round (from purely an armchair operator / cost perspective)… I like the rest of it though.  Is that stock proprietary?  I NEED IT.  I swear I remember seeing it on some sort of Remington tactical AR-15 which would make sense considering Remington now owns AAC.

If you aren’t familiar with the Honey Badger meme check the youtube video.  Normally I’d say piggybacking a meme was lame, but in this case i’ll make an exception since AAC actually came up with something that carries the name with honor.

Oh and one more thing… seriously FPS Russia just change your name to “FPS” because you put absolutely zero effort into that accent now.

Thoughts?

  1. F**K !! I want that rifle !!
I’ve been stalking this rifle since I’ve heard of it, but even the AAC’s website doesn’t provide a good source of information on this product..
I love the rifles overall looks and design, looks like a good PDW to use and operate.

  2. Only in America can you take 4 mm off a 60 year old cartridge design and market it as revolutionary and groundbreaking.

    1. HAH!

      It’s only funny ’cause it’s true… :)

I’ve been wondering about this for the last six months. Yes, the ability to go subsonic and out to 300 yards with the same rifle is neat if you’re a Pier One, I mean, Tier One operator, but for schmucks like me, I just don’t see the bennies.

I shoot 3-Gun, and that means shots out to 300 yards and beyond. Not sure if I can do that with a glorified 7.62mmx39 bullet…

Me, I’m more interested in a 243 WSSM upper than I am in .300 Blackout.

  3. It looks great on paper just like the 6.8. The problem is the cost with the ammo and the early adoption rate. In other words, will it be around in 10 years.?

    1. of course it will be around in 10 years because 556 casings and 308 bullets will be around and that’s all you need to make the round. this is an amazing cartridge that only requires a barrel swap. same magazines, same bolt, same lower receiver. and the best part is you can shoot it through a .45 silencer.

      1. That’s all well and good, but I don’t have time to sit around resizing cases and reloading an obscure cartridge. They need quality manufactured ammunition at a reasonable cost to get it popular. Until then it’s just another specialty round stuck in a niche market. Other cartridges that are this easily interchangeable with barrel swaps are the .40 Super/.45ACP, the .41 AE/9mm, and .357Sig/.40S&W none of them are particularly popular because of the cost and availability of ammunition.

I really do hope it does gain in popularity, but it’s not looking particularly promising until a major ammunition manufacturer steps up to provide lots of the ammo at a good price point.

        1. Remington is mass producing the ammo now so it is more affordable.

I like the concept of the cartridge but the cost and availability of ammo is defiantly a concern. and you would think the bullshit russian accent would get better over time but it’s like he’s hardly trying anymore.

ever heard of .35 Whelen? didn’t think so. as above, until an ammo company starts mass producing this stuff it’ll just be a wildcat. and he really needs to STFU and shoot.

.35 Whelen sucks. Ever heard of 6.5 creedmore?

      1. Critter Avatar

Yeah, .35 Whelen sucks. Yeah, 6.5 Creedmoor is just reinventing 6.5mm Swedish Mauser. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I fucking love the Honey Badger. I don’t care if it’s an obscure cartridge that’s expensive and probably won’t take off. I just love the look of it (minus the finish. I would love a standard matte black finish on it, not that kinda goldish whatever), the whole concept of a large, heavy subsonic round out of an integrally suppressed rifle (Like some kind of crazy American VSS) rubs me the right way. I want one just because it’s fucking cool, I don’t even care if it’s not effective or useful.

  7. Right? He was all over the place with the accent in this vid. The whole meme thing is kinda cool to me, but at the same time I dont know if I would expect God-Tier Operators to even know what that is.. Oh wait… Unless they see this… http://www.itstactical.com/store/honey-badger-morale-patch/

  8. Sorry, but you guys who don’t get it really don’t get it.
.300BLK is perfect (yes for average Joe) provided you’re in a state that allows SBRs and Suppressors.

    1. Perfect for WHAT, exactly? Why does the average Joe need an SBR or a suppressor, other than for tacticool fun times? What does this round do that 7.62×39 does not do? Before you begin, no I don’t NEED a gun that can shoot suppressed out to 300 meters, cause I’m not a SEAL, I’m an average Joe. I need a gun that’s reasonably priced, relatively accurate, and decently durable, with ammo that won’t break the bank.

300 Blackout (IMHO) is a fairly pigheaded attempt to overcome the inherent flaws in our aging and nearly obsolete combat platform of choice (The AR) rather than sucking up and admitting it is time to move on and update.

      1. I agree with Vhyrus, 100%. This round is far from perfect. Throwing a .30cal bullet in a .223 case doesn’t just make the perfect cartridge. It’s called physics!

It’s a great close to semi-mid range round though. That’s about it. Definitely too expensive for the “average Joe”.

      2. Actually, I need a suppressor ’cause it’s a safety device and a nice thing for the other people at the range.

Other than that, (and AAC’s fantastic marketing push, and I say that as someone who does marketing for a living.), I don’t see the big deal.

      3. What is it for? To sell, sir, to sell.

Never bring need into it. Need is what the antis keep harping about. Want is enough.

You don’t like? You don’t want? Don’t buy.

        You like? You want? Buy.

Doesn’t have to be a need for it, doesn’t have to fill a role beyond “I like it!”

        1. When you qualify something as “perfect” the implication is that there is a NEED that is being fulfilled by that item that no other currently existing solution does adequately. With that in mind, is there truly NO OTHER rifle or cartridge that allows you to put holes in targets using a suppressor?

        2. 100%
There does not need to be need.
Obviously there is more than enough people that want, or it wouldn’t exist.
Its already on midwayusa’s top calibers.
Its popularity and growth dwarf 6.8 and 6.5 by far.

  9. Short + quiet = good for self-defense.
Ammo is not that expensive and is going too come down in price.
There was a discussion by AAC online about the resources behind the caliber compared to 6.8. And it is huge.
