Facebook Parenting – Laptop Becomes A Casualty Of The 1911

This guy is bad ass:

Skip to 7:08  if you want to skip the letter reading and see the 1911 mag dump.

I’m sure people will be calling child protective services on him for being such a terrible person and killing his daughter’s access to the internet.  Inhumane in this day and age! :P  Sounds like that little brat deserved it.  I hope she’s embarrassed and learned a lesson.   Too bad she probably hates her parents even more now, and will likely drop out of school and become a stripper.  Mission not accomplished.

I complained all the time about doing anything that I considered “work”, but I still did it.  My parents were too nice to break anything of mine… they paid for it anyway, and they knew i’d likely just be more of a little idiot if I was missing one of my favorite things.

Any of your parents shoot/break anything of yours to prove a point?

  1. I hope when I have kids I never have to teach them a lesson in a similar manner to this.

  2. “This guy is a bad ass?”
    ss-ss-ssorry bb-bbut I don’t see it.

Excuse me, what sort of ignorant, inbred idiocy was forced down your throat as a child to see that for anything but the selfish and insecurity that stumbling idiot was vainly reaching for the entire video?

What the fuck is wrong with you, that you could encourage this? Swearing is bad but property damage is permissible? Insulting and rebelling is wrong, but punishment without explanation is obviously okay, especially in situations where the only authority one ought to submit to is a total, fucking idiot?

But, like I already mentioned, what really gets me is that he claims he loves his daughter so much, but only acts in this video because he is angry– that is, how present is love of his daughter in his mind here? I would suggest not very.

    Hypocritical fuck.

    1. He needed to break the fucking thing, and he’s a gun enthusiast, he combined the two. I think it’s goddamn awesome. It was HIS property and he had every right to destroy it. Back in the day my dad destroyed a ton of my shit that I used the wrong way.

    2. Swearing is bad but property damage is permissible?

Is his property; he can do with it as he sees fit.

Insulting and rebelling is wrong, but punishment without explanation is obviously okay…

Seemed to be plenty of explanation there to me; maybe you weren’t paying attention.

…he claims he loves his daughter so much, but only acts in this video because he is angry…

He’s both angry, and, more importantly, disappointed. You can love someone and be upset with them. If you don’t understand, you’ll have to take my word for it.

      Hypocritical fuck.

I don’t see how he’s being hypocritical. I see that you’re not comprehending the whole situation.

      1. Thank you. I agree on all points, and I’m glad someone replied.

      2. you beat me to it. sounds like Bobbi is in high school and and would just DIE if her laptop was broken.

        1. Third-ed. I don’t personally see anything wrong with what the dad did here. And yep, plenty of explanation given.

          Plus, sweet hat.

As I said before, this is how my dad raised me. Minus the laptop meeting its end via .45

But my favorite wire controlled F-14 was in flames after the shit I pulled that made my mom cry.

    3. My guess is that you don’t have children, or if you do they’re not rebellious like his kid. He has a right to destroy his own property and he also has a right to keep his daughter from having technology. You’d probably be angry too if you raised your daughter to be respectful and understand reponsibility and then she goes behind your back and posts bad stuff about you to the rest of the world. His daughter deserved what she got.

    4. u mad bro?

      1. I don’t think anyone named “Bobbi” with an “i” would be referred to as “bro.” If I’m mistaken, that guy’s parents screwed him!

    5. I would have shot the laptop just for the fact that the spoiled little shi* thinks she can treat her parents friend as ‘the cleaning lady.’

    6. Wow Bobbi,

He taught her a lesson, he didn’t kill her cat. Chill out. The little bitch got what she deserved. Who writes that about their parents for having to do a few chores?

      Also,
The language you are displaying here ought to get your laptop shot up.

    Frankly, Bobby?

My dad would’ve done the same. Actually, he did. He took my favorite toy, and told me to pour the lighter fluid on it myself. I did a really bad thing, and instead of a spanking or a grounding, he made a point.

And frankly, I’m with the dad on this one.

  4. He did a damn good job of embarrassing the shit out of her. Well done.

  5. it’s called tough love.. when she get older hopefully she’ll understand and be a better person.

I’m thankful for my parents for being sometimes strict on me. they also threw away my favourite toys (that they bought, not the ones i bought from delivering junk mail) as a form of punishment, so thinking back on that. what this father did for hos daughter, i see reasonable and necessary.

    god job dad..

  6. am i the only one that sees the big picture? this guy carries his 1911 with a round in the chamber and the hammer down, not cocked and locked like it should be. every person who has ever owned a 1911 knows hammer back safety on in the way to carry a 1911 in a safe manner. is this a Hollywood movie? Is he interrogating the laptop and the laptop refuses to give up the facebook information? So he cocks the hammer to show the laptop he means business and then blam!

    1. How do you know how he carries his 1911, or if he even carries a 1911. He may have just pulled it out for the video.

      1. i wouldn’t know.. I’m a proud owner of a glock 17.
and as per my country law, i carry it unloaded at all times. but have a fully loaded mag o at ready

        1. Yeah, us M&P owners don’t have the hammer issue either :).

          1. I’m an M&P owner and I have the hammer issue. It’s just not an issue on my M&P.

      2. even if he just pulled it out for the video at some point after the first round went in the chamber he let the hammer down… pew pew

    2. every person who has ever owned a 1911 knows hammer back safety on in[sic] the way to carry a 1911 in a safe manner.

Every person that has ever owned a 1911 knows that hammer down is a safer manner of carrying it. Let’s be logical here – if the hammer is down, it can’t fire. How can that not be safer than cocked and safety on? That’s a rhetorical question – it can’t be. You’re just kind of an idiot, I guess. Or at least your statement would indicate so.

      1. Busdriver Avatar

Condition 2 carry is wrong and you are wrong. Even bringing the weapon into Condition 2 is inherently moronic. When you rack the slide to chamber a round, the hammer is cocked. The only way to enter Condition 2 is to bypass every safety feature in the design and pull the trigger on a live round without the intention to fire, relying only on your hand to lower the hammer and avoid an ND.

Let’s be logical here – if the safety is on, it can’t fire. If you have any half decent holster, your safety will be fully enclosed and will stay on at all times, while the hammer is exposed and can be inadvertently actuated with relative ease, turning oh-so-safe Condition 2 into sweet-mother-of-fuck Condition 0.

The correct answer is of course to carry a striker-fired gun or one with a decocker allowing one to avoid having to fiddle with a safety or hammer on the draw at all, but if you feel the need to limit yourself to century old designs, you should at least do so properly and in a way that doesn’t create an unnecessary hazard every time you load the gun.

        1. Condition 2 carry is wrong and you are wrong. Even bringing the weapon into Condition 2 is inherently moronic.

If you think that someone who is experienced with a 1911 riding the hammer forward is really that dangerous, I would argue that it is you that is moronic. Suppose you want to toss an unholstered pistol in a bug out bag or something of that nature. I wouldn’t put a 1911 cocked and locked in there for fear that something might knock the safety off. Nor would I put a Glock in there because all it takes is something to actuate that trigger. That’s why I’m with you on your point about not having to fiddle with a safety or hammer on the draw, but my point was about what is most safe.

          1. Busdriver Avatar

What is most safe is keeping a gun unchambered or in a holster. Throwing a 1911 in a bag with the hammer down on a live round may be slightly less idiotic than throwing it in cocked and locked, but the entire premise is already so far down the path of stupidity that the relative difference is insignificant.

People who claim to be ‘experienced’ with their guns have NDs all the time, even people who actually ARE experienced have them. Pointing a gun at something that you do not immediately intend to shoot and pulling the trigger on a live round is an inherently dumb activity no matter who you are or what your thought process is.

            1. Throwing a 1911 in a bag with the hammer down on a live round may be slightly less idiotic than throwing it in cocked and locked, but the entire premise is already so far down the path of stupidity that the relative difference is insignificant.

Slightly less idiotic? Relative difference is insignificant?

Right. Whatever you say pal. It’s clear there’s no point in trying to have an intelligent debate with you.

              1. Josh,
Col. Jeff Cooper. Read what the man wrote, learned from a lifetime of experience. Then come back and join the debate.

                1. It takes a pretty significant force from the hammer to strike the firing pin with enough force to fly forward and strike the primer in a 1911. I’m not buying that it’s very dangerous to have it in a bag of gear in that configuration (if you were so inclined to carry it that way). And I’m certainly not buying that it’s only slightly less idiotic than having it cocked with the safety on. Not even in the same ballpark.

                  1. What is ridiculous is chambering a round and then pulling the trigger to lower a hammer on a loaded chamber. It is much more dangerous than flipping on the safety and holstering it. Trust me on this from personal experience. If you’re worried about carrying hammer back, don’t chamber a round or buy a striker-fired handgun. You can’t argue that intentionally pulling the trigger on a chambered handgun is more dangerous than not doing it and just putting on the safety. All that said, I couldn’t give a rat’s how he carries, I think he made himself a damn good point and one that won’t soon be forgotten. Kind of the point, right? Obviously, the previous punishment didn’t make an impression.

                    1. What is ridiculous is chambering a round and then pulling the trigger to lower a hammer on a loaded chamber. It is much more dangerous than flipping on the safety and holstering it.

You realize that was how it was done for decades in the military, right? It wasn’t SOP to carry a 1911 cocked with the safety on. I just got off the phone with my former 1SG (now a retired SMG) and asked him and he laughed. He said it was absolutely not the norm to carry with it cocked. He spent 8 years in CAG, or Delta Force as most people call it, or ACE as I think they call it now. When I asked him if riding the hammer forward was safe (which I’ve done countless times) he said, “Well, it depends on your proficiency.” He used to carry a 1911 (not standard by any means) cocked with the safety on, but he assured me that the standard practice while the M1911 was still the Army’s service sidearm was to chamber a round and ride the hammer forward and carry it as such.

I’ll take his word on the matter above anyone else that I know, and certainly above anyone posting here.

  7. I agree with making her buy her own stuff from now on, but I see no reason to destroy the laptop. That is HIS laptop. Sell the thing. “I’m going to show you how upset I am with you by breaking my property!”

    1. I think (as far as the video is concerned) that was the icing on the cake!

  8. Raising kids isn’t an armchair activity. So long as its a calculated child rearing strategy, rather than an attempt to save face in front of internet kids, we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

0:10-0:15 For his daughter, and “more importantly, for all her friends on Facebook.”

    Well, there went the doubt…

  9. I would have just sold the laptop on Ebay and used the money for more trigger time. 2 problems solved!

The phrase “waste not, want not” springs immediately to mind.

  10. I think he was a little drastic, but not that over the top. I would have zombied the computer and let her pay to fix it.

  11. If you don’t like this then you are probably a bad parent or, even worse, a damn liberal. This is nothing! My brothers and I were horrible one year so my father made the decision that we weren’t going to celebrate Christmas that year. He took down the tree, all decorations and returned every single present.

It wasn’t the fact that we had not presents on Christmas morning, it’s was the teasing from friends when we went back to school after Christmas break. Believe it or not, I actually thank my father for doing that. It made me realize what I did was wrong and made me a better person and never did anything like that EVER again.

    Thanks Dad!

    1. He took down the tree, all decorations and returned every single present.

That’s pretty good. If it were me, I wouldn’t have returned them – I’d have made you kids come with me as I gave those presents away to kids in need of Christmas presents, and done so in the hopes that it would knock you down a peg or two!

      1. Spare the rod, spoil the child!

  12. I think the problem with this is that what she claims in the letter and what he claims are very different. She claims she has to work a lot harder then he lets on in the video. He also says ‘this is all true’ about halfway through, so I’m inclined to believe that maybe she is getting treated unfairly. Also, to expect someone who is not even 16 yet to get a job is actually pretty ridiculous, since most places won’t even hire people under 16 nowadays. I’m sure he doesn’t realize that but it is in fact true. I think the most interesting part about this whole thing is that he responds so a so called ‘immature act’ by doing something REALLY immature: Getting angry and putting bullets through something that made him mad. Not exactly setting the best precedent. As far as the actual shooting, it is his property, he bought it and paid for it, and he has every right to do what he did, so I wont fault him there. A GOOD parent, though, would have realized ‘Hmm… my daughter feels she is being treated unfairly, and obviously doesn’t think she can come to me directly about it. Maybe I can talk to her and work out some agreement, like an adult, and in return she will take the post down and put up an apology letter.’ Instead we get “RAWR! HICK ANGRY! HICK SMASH!”

Also… Exploding hollow tips? One dollar a round? I’d love to meet this man’s local gun shop owner!

As a final note… did anyone notice he stutters just like j-j-jimmy from South Park?

    1. He also says ‘this is all true’ about halfway through, so I’m inclined to believe that maybe she is getting treated unfairly.

But he explains that the things she has to do are true, but the extent to which she has to do them is not. Case in point, making beds. She has to make her own bed, not everyone else’s. Big deal – make your bed. Do the dishes – sounds like all she has to do is unload the dishwasher – wow, a real difficult task.

…most places won’t even hire people under 16 nowadays.

I know plenty of people who would hire a responsible (there’s the caveat) 15 year old to babysit their toddler while they’re out. I believe federal law is 14 years of age for non-hazardous employment. I live in Iowa, and 14 and 15 year olds go out every summer to detassle corn in seed corn plots. I’m not buying the “no one would hire her” argument. She could surely find some sort of job. Hell, a 10 year old with a bike can deliver newspapers for a little spending money.

…and in return she will take the post down and put up an apology letter.

Come on, really? Do you really think a (seemingly) entitled little brat like this is going to put up a public apology for all her friends to see? You were a teenager once, right? Be realistic.

…did anyone notice he stutters just like j-j-jimmy from South Park?

I think everyone noticed that (although it’s not as bad as Jimmy), but he did say he works in IT, and IT guys are, in general, not the greatest at interacting with people!

      1. You amaze me Josh. You manage to successfully troll and artfully refute damn near every argument in here without being a tool.

Always a pleasure to read the rebuttals :)

          1. i dont’t think josh is trolling, and I love reading all your replies and opinion for every comments

            1. Ah yes I wasn’t using Troll in a negative connotation. I meant that you can find the chink in the armor of just about every fallacy-laden argument I’ve seen going back a few months.

          2. Damn straight, I’M endo’s resident troll.

      2. Come on, really? Do you really think a (seemingly) entitled little brat like this is going to put up a public apology for all her friends to see? You were a teenager once, right? Be realistic.

I was a teenager once.. I’d like to say it wasn’t that long ago but its gone past a decade off now so I guess I can’t play that card anymore. The point is he did not try to settle the situation in a better way. If he had said to her “Look I know you’re pissed.. lets try to fix this” and she came back with “NO FUCK YOU!” Then by all means run that fucker over with a forklift, but I can guarantee you he read the post, blew his stack, and went straight to shooting first and asking questions later. As far as the job, I have a sister who is turning 19 next week and she could not find a job before her 16th birthday. I even helped her look and everywhere said “no one under 16 its the law”.

Lets go beyond that though. What exactly did she do that was so bad? Did she get caught smoking pot in the bathroom? No… Did she crash her parents car during a drunken joyride? Not that…. Hmm, ok, did she get caught fucking a hobo in a rail car? Nope! So what did she do? She did the equivalent of writing an angry letter to the editor about her parents…

Und for zhis insolence, she vill be punished! ZEIG HEIL!

I’m not saying what she did was the BEST solution, or that her parents should just shrug and let it go, but shooting up a laptop seems a bit authoritarian to me.

        1. I believe he indicated that this was not the first such instance of this kind of thing.

As far as the job, I have a sister who is turning 19 next week and she could not find a job before her 16th birthday. I even helped her look and everywhere said “no one under 16 its the law”.

Perhaps that’s a state law, but it’s contradictory to federal law. What state do you live in, I’ll gladly look it up for you?

What exactly did she do that was so bad?… She did the equivalent of writing an angry letter to the editor about her parents…

It seems she implied that she was in some form of involuntary servitude. And she did so not in a letter to the editor, but in a post that went directly to all of her friends (and I would think, family members as well).

… shooting up a laptop seems a bit authoritarian to me.

Well, you get to be the authoritarian authority with things that belong to you. That’s not her laptop; it’s his. If he wants to shoot it, take a shit on it, or give it to some poor kid who could use it more productively (that would have been my choice), that’s his prerogative.

          1. When I used the term authoritarian I was referring to his parenting style, not his destruction of the laptop. As I stated before it is certainly within his bounds to confiscate and destroy that which he paid for. The fact is, teenagers are rebellious. They are SUPPOSED to be. If you have one that isn’t then there may be a larger problem under the surface. I don’t consider that child’s behavior (E.G. bitching about chores openly and publicly) to be so bad as to warrant public humiliation and invasion of personal space. I.E.: I think he crossed a line.

On the other hand I don’t think he’s monster of the year like Bobbi above is implying either. I just think he got mad and went about this the wrong way… not unlike how his daughter acted…. hmm… apple didn’t fall far from the tree now did it?

            1. I don’t consider that child’s behavior (E.G. bitching about chores openly and publicly) to be so bad as to warrant public humiliation and invasion of personal space. I.E.: I think he crossed a line.

I’ll stipulate to teenagers being rebellious, and that parents need to concede that teenagers will be that way and learn to deal with it. But again, this wasn’t the first instance of something like this. And, we live in a different world than when you and I were teenagers. If I was upset with my parents, I might complain about it to my friends face to face, and that’s where it ended. What happened here is that she posted it for probably hundreds of people to see. And what she relates in her gripe is (almost certainly) ridiculously exaggerated. She brought it into the public by posting her “story” on Facebook; why is it wrong that her father countered with the same tactic? I, for one, certainly think that kids need to realize that what they post on Facebook and other sites can affect them later on. Kids seem to think that only their friends will see it, or that it magically disappears after a while, and no employer or colleague in the future will ever come across it… Idiots. Maybe some teen will see this, or a parent, and it will serve as a reality check of some sort.

              1. I don’t disagree with you on that point, all I’m saying is that the father should have calmed down for a minute and realized that there was an opportunity to resolve this on a much more positive and private note, but instead he went with the big finish as an ego booster ‘haha fuck you little girl look what I can do’… which I think everyone can admit is at least somewhat immature.

                1. I’ll agree that it was immature. Sometimes that can get the point across. I would think the more mature thing to do, as opposed to destroying a perfectly good computer, would have been to give it away to someone needy. That seems to me like the most mature resolution to it. And in the end, that might have been a better lesson to the daughter than just destroying it.

                  1. Great back and forth, guys.

I thought he was going to give it away at first (didn’t first see it here). Would have been a good move.

    2. If my kid did that I’d be stuttering too from being being so pissed off. A lot of people trip on their words when angry.

  13. As a computer tech for a living, I can tell you this guy is a rookie with laptops. Here’s what I do when I get a small collection of laptops to blow up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AklVO3XXfS4

    1. skip to 1:40 and then about 3:00 for gratuitous laptop carnage.

  14. im surprised no one has said anything about exploding hollow points

    1. I mentioned it in my first post actually… I’m surprised no one noticed it. Guess it was too far down in the word salad.

    2. everyone is too busy freaking out to see how many funny gun related things happen in this video.

  15. I have no problem with the video at all aside from the fact that , I dont own a 1911 so i’m unsure of the Condition of carry etc. After shooting the laptop I would have set it on her desk. Call me a savage or whatever you want but I understand the guys frustration , I have a 17 year old who wont work because her mother wont make her , because child support apparently is enough. But no where near the rebelious just lazy. I also understand his anger at his work exp. I have been employed every day since the day i turned 16 , (21 years now) 10 years in the military while holding down a part time 2nd job for 4 of those years. and 9 years with my current employer. Kids seem to not value work anymore and part of that is my fault as a parent. Its not a simple fix … BUT I feel for the guy

      1. Smoking, for smokers, is a stress reliever. At least for the smokers I know.
I like how he smoked the laptop at the end of the video too.

        Maybe.

  19. This man is an infinitely better person than I am. I woulda just shot the kid. Genes be damned.

  20. She’s lucky her dad just shot her laptop and not her….

    1. Exactly! That girl seems like an ideal candidate for my “chlorinate the gene-pool” program I’ve been working on. She’s lazy, selfish, stupid and a total asshole, all perfect traits for a human target!

  21. The girl takes family issues and puts it out on Facebook. She decides to circumvent her grievances with her parents and try to come across as some distressed daughter in a horrible family situation.

Dad’s reaction is more than appropriate, although I’d like to know what she did to get grounded for three months. If the girl is going to play “tough” like that on FB, an equally ridiculous response calling out her rebellion is the only way where he makes sure that stuff never happens again till she moves out and becomes self-sufficient.

The “cleaning lady” who’s working off previous services rendered… that’s old school and it’s admirable that he’s letting her do that instead of putting her through small claims court or into some litigious shit hole.

The daughter will probably occupy Wall Street someday.

  22. Dang I guess I got a coupla spare pennies. I felt like I was doing homework reading some of these posts. Let’s just all agree that guns are cool and so is shooting random shit with said guns (in a cool safe way)

Reminds me of the time after I shot my dads old plates that were his mothers. He took an acetylene torch to my Remington 760, after that he hung it up on the mantle in 3 parts.

Also – shit like this is why we can’t have nice things.

    His right? Perhaps.

Show it to a politician, and dollars to donuts his blood pressure rises.

Amazing so many would focus on the 1911 and what condition it was in, who cares he was in his yard shooting a laptop he paid for.

I wish he would have made is daughter come out and shoot it herself, then it would be several lessons.

Since this is getting International attention now I’m waiting to see the report where child services comes in and removes his daughter and the police take all his guns until his mental evaluation is complete. Hell maybe the UN will intervene.

  28. FYI for anyone who’s subscribed to this post and is interested – I was looking at the TV Guide on my television and saw that there’s a show on NBC tonight called “Rock Center with Brian Williams” and the info said they would be discussing this incident and would have interviews with both the father and the daughter. Looks like it’s going to be on NBC at 9pm in Central and Mountain time zones and 10pm in Pacific and Eastern.

    That is one disrespectful child.
Going to bet ad ten and waking up at five? Hah, she needs to see what college is like. Even a moderate work load can mean not getting any sleep as you are too busy studying. Plus, you have no free time if you work, since college is so expensive that you either attend class, study to pass a class, or work to pay for a class.
You have no other time for things like sleep.
