Did Ted Nugent Threaten To Kill Barack Obama?

From a few days ago at the NRA convention.  You be the judge at 1:30:

To think that a human could think that humans don’t have a basic right to self defense, is so bizarre to me as to my brain can’t accept the information. If you want more of those kinds of evil anti-American people in the supreme court.  Then don’t get involved and let Obama take office again.  Because I’ll tell you this right now, If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.

Let me break this down:

Some ways Ted Nugent could wind up in jail if Barack Obama got re-elected:

  • Breaking any number of random existing laws
  • Breaking a new law which he thinks Obama will inevitably pass
  • Attempting to kill Obama

Some ways Ted Nugent could die if Barack Obama got re-elected:

  • Suicide
  • Murder-suicide
  • Dying in an Obama assassination attempt
  • Heart attack or any other random occurrence

By no means is that an all inclusive lists of possibilities, but seriously what an incredibly stupid thing for Ted Nugent to say.  My thought is that Ted is probably an alright guy that didn’t mean any harm, and I appreciate his enthusiasm for guns and the 2nd Amendment but he should seriously STFU when it comes to politics.  He should have known that using words like “dead” and “jail” in the same sentence as the president’s name is going to be twisted in the worst way possible unless he precisely explained himself (which he didn’t).  We all know now he’s going to be interviewed about this a million times over the next few years, and he will basically just shrug it off and/or say some more stupid shit in typical Ted Nugent fashion.  Maybe that’s his whole plan?  Keep saying stupid things so he never fades into the background with all the other old rockers?  Sounds like an inexpensive way to stay relevant.

The Secret service is apparently “looking into” the matter.

Thoughts?

It seems to me like he means that due to 2nd Amendment rights being taken away (specifically regarding self defense) he would either be dead, due to him not being able to defend himself, or in jail for defending himself because it would then be illegal to do so.

I think this is probably the most logical explanation guys. Let’s not be reactionary here… Use a little logic, we’re talking about a 63 year old man who is VERY articulate in his prose. He knows what he means and does what he says.

Linoge April 19, 2012 at 06:16 am

I think it was a fairly stupid thing to say, but Ted says fairly stupid things just about every other day, so that is not exactly an unusual circumstance.

That said, Mike hit it on the head – anyone referring to this as a “threat” is an idiot on a witch-hunt, looking for any and all possible things they could pervert into a race/party-based attack.

And with the Zimmerman case just beginning to get spooled up, scary enough, you can count on this kind of crap increasing.

This is my take on it. He was definitely talking about the rise in gun control and the inability to being able to defend himself because of it. Do you break the gun laws to protect yourself or leave yourself vulnerable by obeying them?

Ted Nugent is very articulate and intelligent and the fact that this blog tells him to STFU when it comes to politics scares me. Ted is a champion in gun rights. He is doing the real dirty work of spreading the truth about guns and culture.

The fact that a gun blog would condemn him like this makes me afraid of the future for the 2nd Amendment. Support Ted Nugent for everything he does for your rights!!!

That’s a joke right? If not, me and you grew up in very different environments.

Just because he said that he’ll either be dead or in jail doesn’t mean he was talking about the worst case (him wanting to kill the president). I know he wasn’t getting at that. He was simply saying that by this time next year Obama will already attack out rights to own firearms. His point was that he’ll be dead (because he couldn’t protect himself) or in jail (because he ignored the new gun laws that he’s anticipating and has been caught).

I think the people that are making a bigger deal about this sentence are the real deranged ones. Ted wouldn’t be thinking like that. You all have sick, disgusting minds.

I’d like to see you come up with stuff that Ted said that wasn’t intelligent on a serious level and in context. You can’t do it because he is very intelligent. You have been brainwashed into thinking he is the enemy to forget who our real enemies are (the gun control lobby)!!

Obama, he’s a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary, You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.

That was while he was wielding to rifles on stage at a 2007 concert.

Still waiting for you to come up with an unintelligent quote??! Barack Obama is a piece of shit and Hilary Clinton is a worthless bitch.

Instead of telling Obama to suck his d*ck he said machine gun because he had one in his hands and Obama is in favor of re-instating the “Assault Weapons” Ban. Another figure of speech, it means that Obama should back away from putting his figurative hands on his machine gun.

Hyperbole and figures of speech are fairly easy to understand for anybody with common sense.

Our history has been rewritten by the progressives and most American’s don’t know the TRUE history of America and our founding fathers. Those who want to destroy America or just change it attack all that is good an or morale.

Ask any high school kid today to tell you something about Thomas Jefferson and one of the first things out of (most) their mouth will be that he was a slave owner. By pushing that idea he puts him in a negative light and wipes out ALL of his accomplishments and contributions to this great country.

Tom B. April 19, 2012 at 09:40 am

There appeared to be an edit there at the beginning. Any idea what was cut? he snaps back to a position after his first statement.

While you can try and say he was talking about someone killing him because he can’t defend himself or being arrested for defending himself, his rhetoric following it doesn’t indicate that was his frame of reference. This is the kind of rhetoric that disappoints me. Bringing up revolutionary talk, chopping off heads of elected officials. These people didn’t take office because they were born, they were elected and appointed by elected officials.

What is bizarre to me about his stance is that somehow Mitt Romney is the answer. That guy ran Massachusetts. It’s one of the most restrictive states with the 2nd amendment. I can’t find any attempts by him to roll back any of the restrictive laws or all the laws were put in place after he left. I mean if he was championing Ron Paul I’d understand because Ron’s the only politician in federal office I’ve seen that actually says what he means and follows up what he says by his voting record.

Until we break the two party duopoly by not having it a two horse race these issues are going to swing through the extremes. It’s like the old south park episode, the elections with two parties are the choice between a douche and a turd sandwich. I would suggest everyone check out third party options this election. We have to vote all of these fools out of office. I’ve never understood the ‘hold your nose and vote’ mentality that we’ve let ourselves come into. AmericansElect.com is a really interesting site that lets you plug in your views, and matches you with independent candidates that are running for office. They are holding a primary for independent presidential candidates and put them on the ballot in all 50 states from a primary held via the internet. Interesting stuff.

Reply

Nate April 19, 2012 at 11:31 am

I would love for Ron Paul to get elected, but let’s stop kidding ourselves, it ain’t gonna happen. It’s gonna be the lesser of two evils and, unfortunately, Romney is the lesser. Anyone who votes for a third party candidate come November is only doing the rest of us a disservice.

Reply

Tom B. April 19, 2012 at 01:12 pm

Romney isn’t the lesser of two evils in my book, the 1st amendment is as important as the 2nd amendment to me, and his party constantly talks about how they need to apply religion to our government which to me is as dangerous as removing the 2nd amendment protection of the first amendment.

as long as people believe that we have to ‘stop kidding ourselves’ and ‘vote the lesser of two evils’ the evils that we vote for will always win.

Reply

Mike April 19, 2012 at 01:24 pm

What parts of religon do you disagree with in government? You are used to a government without any morals so you are used to a government without religon. Everything in our nations history has Christianity all over it, right up until we started saying “no more religion in politics” is when our country started falling apart.

Reply

DeskJockey April 19, 2012 at 01:32 pm

A vote for Ron Paul this November has the same net effect on the outcome as a vote for Obama. Unless Ron Paul actually wins, which he hasn’t effectively done yet. The risk is too high.

The funny thing is if you had replaced the names he singled out with branches of government names I may have agreed some with his statements. However somehow the executive, judicial, and legislative branches were all constitutional friendly up until Obama if he was to be believed.

However he’s also a board member of the NRA. While maybe once upon a time the NRA used to be a good organization they look nuttier and nuttier to me. Screaming that Obama has some secret anti gun policy he’s waiting to pounce on us the instant he gets re-elected…right. I’d rather them take their money and hire an army of lawyers to fight policy instead of wasting it on elections. Use the courts to protect our 2nd amendment rights state by state.

But that’s not as sexy as getting people to shell out money to fight the man apparently. Just part of the problem again, not the solution

Obama tells Russian PM “After Election I Have More Flexibilty” 3/26/2012

Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.
Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…
Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

Don’t use a narrow focus for this as to specifically the 2nd amendment, if you look at this from a wide angle what is seen is that his willingness to work with countries that are not our allies and not to work for the protection and freedoms of the American people he was ‘elected’ to serve.

His ‘FLEXIBILITY’ is to control rather than to serve. This guy is a dictator lover and has been quoted about that fondness of that type of leadership.

Ted Nugent, in a perfect world, would only die from whatever he talks about in the song “Wango Tango.”
Otherwise, he’s perfectly allowed (see US Constitution) to say whatever he wants about democrats and the current President. If I recall correctly when fmr. President Bush (jr) was in office, democrats of all levels were screaming Bush was a warmonger and baby killer, and that all republicans are a bunch of Nazis.

Ted isn’t anything anything that the democrats weren’t saying 5 years ago. 5 years ago democrats were screaming that martial law would happen, and that we were all going to die from Bush and his Big Brother surveillance system, which obviously is still in use by our current president (but don’t remind democrats of that).

With that said, why isn’t this a video of Ted shooting something or skinning animals? Why aren’t we seeing quotes about what Ted says when a woman is being attacked by a rapist? Why is Ted stupid? He was asked his opinion or rather he just shared it. It’s his opinion. And as far as he’s concerned, he still wants to be able to wake up in the morning and have one.

Look over there, kids – it’s a PANDER BEAR!

Panders prefer stay out of the heat, and roll over when challenged. They are very aggressive and raucous among other panders, but will quickly submit when they have the attention of an outsider.

Here at Hollow Head Zoo we have a very special pander adoption program: trade in any Hollow Points that you may have saved up during your visit, and we will assign a pander to you! Furthermore, your contribution will go toward the growth of the zoo’s Left Wing. Your Hollow Points will be forfeit – so they can’t be used to purchase a Freedom Pass, which gives access to every area of the zoo – but adopting a pander entitles you to hang out in the Left Wing as long as you like.

It’s easy, kids…sign your name here, on this ATF form! And just think – if someone asks you, “What happened to your Freedom and your Hollow Points?” you can tell them: “I got a PANDER and supported the LEFT WING!”

If Brad Pitt and George Clooney and Oprah and Sean Penn and all of the rest of those whacked out liberal Hollywood fools can shuffle around spouting the shit they say off, then why would anyone on our side of the spectrum tell one of our fellow members (even if a little farther right than ourselves) to shut the fuck up?

Ted’s comments don’t need a great deal of clarification because he’s actually a very consistent person. He’s saying what he’s always said before that big government can (and probably will someday) lead to people like him (and us) being locked up or worse.

It’s whacky how all of us guys here are getting so twisted with each other, too.

As a gun owner I don’t appreciate being associated with Ted Nugent. That’s the position he, and plenty of others out there put him in… and it bathes us all in a bad light when he spouts off stuff like this (and it isn’t the first time). I’d rather someone say to me “Oh, you own guns? You must be like Massad Ayoob. I saw him on TV a few times.” That would never happen, but i’d be impressed rather than discouraged if it did.

I think that’s the problem, is that we as firearm owners are not invidualized. We’re all considered the same and on the same page. What people don’t know is that we ARE different. FFS, I have seen more arguments about this or than on gun forums than I can count (and I can count pretty high).

I don’t think all car owners are fucked up, because one blasts loud music out of his car. Ted Nugent DOES NOT represent firearm owners, and anyone who believes he does needs to rethink their feelings. Regardless of his NRA affiliations.

Remember it’s “National Rifle Association” not “The constitution allows belt fed for concealed carry” The NRA has their own agenda and has been willing to “compromise” on issues I don’t believe support the 2A.

I don’t let anyone dictate who I am other than myself and my behavior. And I don’t think any liberal or conservative should dictate who you are either.

You mean like the pass that the New Black Panther Party got when they openly solicited for the MURDER of Zimmerman when they announced and passed out those “WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE” posters?

The people talking bad about Nugent were obviously trolls… or very ignorant. It’s 2012 and some people don’t understand figures of speech. It’s 2012 and gun owners are enemies with fellow gun owners instead of united with the real enemies (gun grabbers). It’s 2012 and we have a Marxist as President of the USA. It’s 2012 and people think that a guy as popular as Ted Nugent would sit up on a stage and seriously declare that we should chop off the current administrations heads… GET REAL PEOPLE!!!

If you want to see what a threat against 44 looks like just check out Fonda’s statement where he stated he was teaching his grand kids to shoot sniper rifles and said he wasn’t going to mention #44s name.

Here is a bit more context that can be applied to Uncle Ted’s comments.

With this administration agressively using regulations to “crucify” fudds, can anybody else be far behind?

Well if you caught the news of his plea agreement, you can understand the context a little more. Apparently he is the first and only person charged with this particular violation of the Lacey Act.
