Strikemark VHS Camcorder Picatinny Rail Mount

Strikemark reminded me that they sent a mount my way back in 1985… So I dug up some pictures:

My primary weapon system in all its glory:

This was state of the art back in ’85.  The amount of combat/operations footage I got with the pictured setup was unreal.

Lots more pictures after the break.

The bottom side when attached to the camera:

The mount itself:

The mount functioned flawlessly under the weight of the VHS camcorder.  I’m more than confident it will serve you just as well with any modern digital camera or video camera.  That said, if you happen to put an even bigger camera on your mount and it breaks it, Strikemark has a lifetime warranty and they will gladly send you a replacement.

You can pick up your own Camera Picatinny Rail Mount over at Strikemark.

Oh yea and Strikemark is giving away 2 mounts to a couple random commentors.. so if you’re not interested in a mount then don’t comment on this post! Make sure to check out their facebook page and like it for updates on new products too.

Got excited before I saw it wasn’t actually a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

the first time i walked into a gunstore, the and clerk said “can i help you?” it caught me by surprise i said “yeah, i need a phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range.” the clerk responded “hey, just what you see, pal!” that exchange cemented our relationship. six years, twelve sales, five transfers and three consignments down the line, they’re still my go to establishment.

  2. i hope you’re saying this all tongue in cheek cause no one was running eotech in 85. no one was running collapsible stocks of the type that you have back in 85.

yeah i hope this is tongue in cheek.

      When is he not?

    2. I’m not sure, but I hope Mike sticks with bringing back only the ‘5.56’ shirt and leaves the rest of the 80’s fashion staples behind.

      :-P

    3. That’s bullshit, holographic sights have been standard issue since ’68, Black Ops said so.

Psh – I’m always interested in free stuff. Would be awesome to play around with my T3i on an AR :-D

  5. I am very interested in this mount. I can definitely find some use with my GoPro or Contour

    1. Yanne here with Strikemark. Incidentally, we also make the best specific picatinny mounts (in my very biased opinion) for the GoPro and Contour cameras too. Check’em out on our website if you don’t win or email me directly [email protected]. Enjoy.

      1. Wow you guys make some questionable products. Like this

Do you really need a mount to take pictures of yourself shooting? One finger on the trigger, the other on the camera’s button? Cause I really want a flash going off 2 feet from my face, directly in to my eye, when i’m shooting. The only mount I can see making sense is the one for the Contour video camera.

        1. Because it is impossible to turn the timer on and the flash off on your camera.

        2. I’d say that 99.9 percent of digital cameras have a video mode nowadays.

        3. Matt, the majority of digital cameras these days shoot high quality footage (if not in HD). While you could theoretically use it on a timer for stills, the main benefit to this product is not stills, but footage. This is great for those who don’t have a GoPro, Contour, or similar adventure-style action cameras.

Does one really need to take pictures (or footage) of themselves shooting? No, but I suppose that could be said about taking pictures of anything…like mountain biking, surfing, racing, skiing, etc, but people do it anyway and they love it. GoPro and Contour have built their business on people filming themselves doing cool shit…and we’re only too happy to have come out with something that let’s people use their cameras even more. But hey, its not for everybody.

          1. I suppose that makes a bit more sense. It still seems like a cumbersome solution.

            1. If 1 ounce is likely to slow you down, then yes, I suppose it could be considered either cumbersome -OR- one of the lightest all-metal mounts on the market…pick your poison.

              1. I was referring to the point and shoot camera mounted to your gun (especially a handgun) as being the cumbersome part.

  6. I’d like to experiment with that mount, see if I can mount an AK to my AR, or you know, just mount a camera, but where’s the fun in that?

    1. You must work at Red Jacket Firearms.

I use to have an old RCA camera. The camera itself was probably twice that size, then the tape went in a VCR hung over one shoulder, and VCR-sized control box was slung over the other shoulder. Pretty sure that rig would have busted the mount. Makes me wonder if the Strikemark is designed to break before stripping or damaging your rail.

haha nice, if I had access to a bigger one I would have mounted it! I could be wrong, but I think it would take an awful lot of torque to wreck the rail with that mount on it. The tolerance is extremely tight, and actually has to be slipped on from the back or front… there is no moving clamp type thing that a lot of rail mounts have. The set screw is just so it doesn’t move back and forth.

I will only take it if operators in operations use it.

  14. Hellz yes I want a mount!

  15. I like the simple design of this one and that it works with any camera instead of being proprietary.

    1. Yanne here with Strikemark. Good point Ed. At first we came out with the GoPro mount, then the Contour, then we wanted something that everybody could use. Here it is…enjoy.

  16. More interested in the time machine he used to get that shirt back to 1985 :P

  17. Is it compatible with Betamax?

  18. John D Avatar

I figured they were letting you know they wanted it back!

  19. I already have their Contour mount…I could use this with my T3i…want!

This would be a lot more handy than trying to aim down flip up sights while holding a camera with one hand.

Why is there a fanny pack on that gun?

      1. Holds the battery. The chainsaw actually works. Apparently bayonets aren’t good enough for fighting zombies.

I’ve got a nice reel to reel that would look right at home on one of these bad boys!

  27. Could be a fun addition to range days.

  28. I was just thinking of ways to mount a camera to my M4 just the other day..

  29. You should totally take that to a carbine course and use it. It would be worth it just to see the reaction from the trainers and the look on everyone’s faces there! Bwahaha.

Sooo…after thinking about it a little bit, this thing or a contour with mount would be really fun to play with. I wonder if I could use the T3i viewfinder kind of like a corner shot? Necessary? Nope. Since when does that matter?

  31. Jayson Avatar

That is g’d up from the feet up. Look at you all badass.

It looks like it says VHS, I really wish it were BETAMAX.

    Still, sweet!

  32. Sweet! WANT.

  33. Looks perfect for the VHS assault rifle.

I wonder if I could fit this on a BFG9000 to run through the moon base and capture video.

  35. Personally — I don’t want anyone to see me shooting anything. Embarrassed if I miss and remember Miranda: Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law.

In other words — they are not required to admit exculpatory evidence.
