Bug-A-Salt – Bug Assault Pistol Grip Shotgun

Salty flies anyone? *nom nom nom*:

How long until some kid shoots another in the eye and blinds them?  :P You just know someone is going to blind a hobo sooner or later too.

Safety engaged after each shot  WTF is that?  I’d find a way to disable that ASAP… you can’t have an assault pistol that keeps popping the safety on every time you pull the trigger!  What is this guy a Brady plant?  Maybe it was a Chinese design idea just to F with American kids the old fashioned way? haha yea I’m going with that one.

You can pre-order a gun at indigogo.  It’s only $30, which is awesome… I just wish it wasn’t made in China, and that he didn’t try to play it off as being so necessary in the video to go there.

More info on the Bug-A-Salt website also.

Thoughts?

  1. the original salt gun?

    1. Yeah, that’s a salt adapter for an air pistol. This is a salt gun.

      1. THANK YOU well put ADAPTOR

  2. I made a “machine” gun that fires 1mm (0.039″) steel balls, the type that are used for nail art. Also fun for insects, but less kind on furniture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij6Zm0tJ03Y

  3. does it really make those gunshot noises? (to lazy to rewatch the vid incase there is a part it shows its actual sound)

Fave part: the “thunk” sound the fly makes

This is a Jello “ballistic test” from his YouTube page. Basically he shoots a fly over bait, the bait being Jello.

Why do I get the feeling this guy was camping out at an Occupy rally last year?

And yet he engages in capitalism in its purest (and best) form.

Get yours before another a-salt weapons ban. This weapon will surely be included. It serves no purpose other than killing, has 50-60 round magazine capacity, and I think I saw a shoulder thing that goes up.

Glad he filmed this with a potato.

  10. fun. I use a bottle of febreeze to the same effect. knocks em out of the air for easy kill/cleanup and freshens the room as a bonus…

  11. “Made in China” is a deal breaker for me. Given our economy, I can see no good reason for foreign manufacture anymore. If it costs a little more to make it here … charge a little more for it!

  12. Has a pistol grip and holds 50 shots so is illegal in CA, MA, NY, NJ, Chicago and Aurora (IL).

  13. That is pretty cool, but I would never buy this… You may kill flies, but you’ll have bugs all over the place because of the salt everywhere.

I wonder what the range is on this thing, 5′, 10′, 20′?
…Can I sit on the couch and get a fly across the room?

    1. I got one. Works best at about two feet.

  15. Anyone in U.S that wants to manufacture the BUGASALT at a reasonable price……….. NOT THREE times as much

PLEASE COME FOWARD lets keep it in AMERICA!

    LORENZO

  16. Church — salt doesn’t attract bugs. It may cause a bit of a salty mess, but it is much more environmentally friendly than having to drown them in Raid! As for causing blindness – DK if that would happen, but I guess you could cause blindness with a can of Raid too –
Would love it if it were made in the US, but then it would cost about $60 and no one would buy it. The problem isn’t that entrepreneurs go to China; the problem is that no one can get things manufactured here at the same price. I’d buy it because it is an American company and the profits stay in the US no matter where the $1.67 worth of manufacturing costs go. Besides, China owns us anyway thanks to the government deficit.

  17. I agree with JaxCat 100%. Looks like a lot of fun!

i love this idea. …great toy

  19. I received my bug-a-salt on 10-24 and it has exceeded my expectations. I never realized hunting bugs could be so much fun. I’ve bagged a few dozen flies so far, two on the wing! My favorite quarry are the spiders. Range and knockdown power are great, and nobody is going to lose an eye. Great job Lorenzo, you did this right.

  20. So surprised nobody jumped on the “Cock gun” in the background of the part where he’s on camera discussing the product.

Maybe too many “Buck” posts read in one day as I read back some….. but “Cock gun” was made me laugh.

  21. Having priced items for start ups myself, I can honestlly say you cannot make this in the U.S., and sell it at a price that anyone would pay. You would be close to 60 dollars and up, closer to 90 than 60.
You would limit your market to a very few percent of the folks who can now enjoy their Bug Asalt , shotgun. And thus it would be a failure. The formula is usually 1/6 of the final price is the price of the item you are markenting. The rest goes for everything else from packaging to press. Many times the other costs supercede the item itself. Design R&D, shipping graphic design, licenses, etc the list of costs associated with the saale of a new product are endless.

I have been following this journey of Lorenzo’s. I have read many different posts, He addressed the made in china question with, if there is anyone capable of making these at a good price in America, he wants to talk.He is an artist, had an idea, got money from family and friends to realize his dream and went for it. I received mine in October, I have yet to show it to anyone that was not impressed. I received two today that I ordered a week a go for Christmas presents. Gymowner, you hit it on the head.
I am not in favor of using other countries for our products, but it has to be done. Lorenzo and his team has tried to take every safety precaution on his project, from the cocked and loaded indicator, safety on after ever shot to having you E sign a form saying you are 18 years old at order. The intended use of this adult toy is to kill bugs and have fun. But like any other item for sale in the world, someone will use it for something other than it’s intended use.

  23. just got mine in the mail..totally pleased..its winter here so no bugs..so i made a trap to throw quarter sized disks…works great..we’re shooting moving targets in my basment..the bugs are in trouble..

  24. Where do i buy this shiznit?

  25. You can log onto our website http://www.bugasalt.com to order a gun, or call the Lorenzo Hotline at 310-392-3288 to place an order over the phone :) Happy fly hunting!

  26. That looks extremely cool for two reasons. Insect control, and rapid target response practice. Love it!

  27. Yuk yuk! ; )
I think by adding a little of this to the A-salt, you have the ultimate “Bear grade” Pepper Spray device. Can you image shooting a car jacker in the face with this? I giggle just thinking about it! Then again it might blow back into the car…….. hmmmm….. maybe not such a good idea. But still funny. : )

just got my bug a salt today, I excitedly removed it from its packaging and as soon as i pushed on the button to open the lid the tab broke off so now it wont stay shut….. ahhhhh this sucks, it wont hold salt now without spilling all over when you shoot it. The gun shoots and works great but the lid could use a redesign……

  30. Have one from the beginning, still works 2 years later

Just got my bug a salt, had a blast for a couple hour, until the slide cocking got jammed. I’m not sure how to fix it. I’m afraid I will break it if I start messing with it.

Hey Lorie, you might want to email the company about that. However if it’s jammed with salt, since salt is water soluble maybe you could just soak it in some warm water for a few minutes? I don’t know though, just thinking out loud. Good luck!
