Deaf Kid Asked To Change His Name Sign – Weapons Policy Violation

So this is the United States of America we live in now huh?

The sign for the little guy’s name (Hunter) is two crossed fingers waved up and down.

“He’s deaf, and his name sign, they say, is a violation of their weapons policy,” explained Hunter’s father, Brian Spanjer.

Grand Island’s “Weapons in Schools” Board Policy 8470 forbids “any instrument…that looks like a weapon,” But a three year-old’s hands?

Full Story – HERE

I can’t even wrap my head around the stupidity of this.  People need to start getting fired, and banned from ever teaching another kid anything, for even suggesting something as dumb as this.

Agreed, people need to be fired for this kind of crap.
They are back peddling pretty hard now it seems. I bet they have been getting calls from lots of lawyers.

I just hope Captain Trips arrives soon.

I know where I want patient zero to be. :-p

Political Correctness gone too far….

Double ‘U’. Tea. Fuck!

Watch out for “Assault Hands”

My brain hurts after watching this, and to think these fucking people have CAREERS in education, how many more times did their fuckups go unnoticed.

klyph August 29, 2012 at 02:20 am

Look people, just think what might happen if this kid signed his name near an NYC cop. Dozens of bystanders could be shot.

Peter August 29, 2012 at 04:37 pm

I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment Klyph.

Only teachers see a threatening, weapon-like sign. That IS the sign in the language. A**holes.

bikeman August 29, 2012 at 06:27 am

Knowing ASL, not SEE, there are a LOT of signs that may be interpreted as violence.

“Work” for example, to closed fists, tapped at the wrist. “Change” two closed fists, inside of wrists touching with fists facing opposite, then ‘pivot’ on the wrist so the lower fists ends up on top, but facing the same direction. “not” a ‘thumbs up’ hand starts at the throat and the thumb rides the bottom of the chin forward until the air.

fxhummel1 August 29, 2012 at 06:42 am

I think they can work together to find a solution. Here’s one: That teacher from the school should have to change the way he signs his own name to the sign for ‘asshole.’ I think that would be a good compromise.

Heath August 29, 2012 at 06:45 am

Hold a closed fist with your palm down. Insert the index finger from your other hand into the hole of your closed fist. New name sign!

Heath August 29, 2012 at 06:43 am

Fire everyone who was involved in this decision making process. It’s evident they don’t have enough common sense to be trusted to even tie shoes.

I have this feeling that the name sign wouldn’t be an issue except for his name being Hunter.

Bear August 29, 2012 at 08:55 am

Find whoever suggested this.

Look at them.

Just say “Absolutely not. Go away.”

Then point and laugh at them for being stupid enough to be offended by a DEAF CHILD’S NAME IN SIGN LANGUAGE.

Josh August 29, 2012 at 09:23 am

Wait, why not just try to change the entire sign language system to remove that sign? It could be like a recall or something. If it’s dangerous in school, surely it’s dangerous everywhere else.

BBJones August 29, 2012 at 11:37 am

You all are looking at this the wrong way. This is the coolest 3 year old in the world. He has to register his hands as “lethal weapons.” Clearly this kid is an wunderkind uber-tactical operator.

I completely understand the schools position. Enforcing stupid rules blindly, clearly trumps using common sense. Schools are typically run by idiots and you cannot expect idiots to use good judgement.

Kyle August 29, 2012 at 12:48 pm

This is nothing. If you’ve been following the line of stupidity in public schools as it’s been going on for years now, you’d have seen stories about 5 years getting arrested on Graffiti charges for scribbling on a desk with a pencil, 3 year olds being handcuffed and detained by the police for having a temper tantrum. It’s not schools being stupid, it’s the schools being told by the government to prepare our youth for the idea of a police state.

eventually all children with names like Winchester, colt, Remington, Ryder, Daisy will be rounded up and put in special reeducation classes. As will anyone with/using nicknames like gunner or trigger.
Your Overlords have spoken.
All hail your Overlords.

Dr Kranknstein August 30, 2012 at 04:59 am

What in the double retarded monkey fuck…This is by far the biggest lack of common sense bullshit I have heard in a long time. Basic government administration and it’s lack of anything related to common sense is turning our children into pussies.

Saxon August 31, 2012 at 12:56 am

What happens if the kid mimes using an RPG during playtime? Does the BATFE fuck-up squad roll in, shoot the class pet and light the school on fire?

BillB September 2, 2012 at 09:44 pm

His sign ‘resembles a dangerous weapon’? What about REAL weapons still allowed in school? A new, long sharpened pencil to the eye or throat? A wicked paper cut to the jugular?
