Testing The Bulletproof iPhone Case

Richard Ryan (iPhone shooter extraordinaire) gives it a shot:

¥52,500 ($672 USD) for the super practical bulletproof case.  I’m not surprised the bullet didn’t penetrate the case, nor am I surprised the phone wouldn’t power up.  That is a heck of a lot of energy transferred to the phone which it obviously wasn’t designed to take.

A bit of a flawed test though considering it’s unknown whether the round caused the phone not to function or it it was from when it flew and hit the rocks.   Fun though, either way.

Thoughts?

  1. Probably just needs the LCD/Digitizer replaced

    1. And any MEMS parts like the accelerometers.

  2. if he had hit it full on i am sure it would be in worse shape

hit it full on?……that looked like a pretty solid hit to me….

    2. You mean against a wall? Maybe, but an iPhone isn’t going to get shot against the wall so this test sufficed. But then again, an iPhone getting shot with a .50 BMG isn’t realistic to begin with anyway.

      1. Well how about against a ESAPI plate which is mounted to 200lbs of something solid.

  3. I like the cinematography and music in these videos. And that didn’t look like it came close to penetrating that case. PLUS, the case in now 10 times more badass being marked by a .50 cal.

kinda heavy in the pocket, donchaknow.

  5. Richard,
Have you shot a 50 cal round at a piece of 7075 aluminum? I have shot at a 1″ thick piece of steel and the round pierced it and some stuck in.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  6. Did you try turning it off and on again?
