NRA Gets At Obama

The NRA lets it be known once again that they don’t like Obama:

*snorrrrreeee* Oh hi there sorry, I was bored to sleep.  This is the second ad the NRA has put out recently in an attempt to sway your vote.

I hope they aren’t paying much for these commercials, because they are terrible.

Phil October 25, 2012 at 12:09 am

I’m going to vote obama because of this now.

jpcmt October 25, 2012 at 10:55 am

Exactly my thoughts. Everytime I get a membership renewal form (after just paying), or get a 3 week delay when I order instruction student packets, or another shameless begging for money mail at the point of fear (of the bad liberal gun grabbing government), or every American Rifleman magazine I see with endless fearmongering on it and unsavory articles and conjecture about Obama and liburls ad naseum I see…i just want to spite them and vote for Obama. Sadly i just mailed my absentee ballot in with Ron Paul written in so I can’t…but then, i’m sure they and other Obama haters would say I just voted for Obama by voting for RP…so WIN!

Andy Wolf October 25, 2012 at 11:43 am

Actually, them’s the rules. He’s not actually running, so it will be thrown out. Your best bet would be Gary Johnson. He’s on the ballot in all 50 states.

elephantrider October 25, 2012 at 11:57 pm

Good job of voting for whoever carries the majority in your state! Great way to stick it the man. Not really though.

atm October 25, 2012 at 08:11 am

Any commercial against Obama is a good commercial.

Gviken October 25, 2012 at 08:34 am

Heaven forbid they bore anyone trying to get word out. It’s not like doing this very thing is the whole purpose of their organization or anything.

Evan October 25, 2012 at 08:48 am

How likely is it, do you think, you could find a high profile media/advertising company that would be willing to even work on an anti-left, anti-Obama commercial, let alone one involving EVUL BAY-BAY KILLIN’ BLACK GUNZ!

On top of the short time frame to the election?

Phil October 25, 2012 at 10:41 am

If you actually believe that the barackalypse is coming and your guns will be taken away than congrats…you have been successfully brainwashed by NRA propaganda.

TheRealDave October 25, 2012 at 11:00 am

Congrats you have been successfully brainwashed by… yourself? public education? Our rights have been steadily eroded for decades. Obama will not “come and take our guns away”, he will merely push us faster down the road toward it.

The NRA is a very effective organization when it comes to defending freedom. Any gun owner that is not a member is a fool.

Phoenix October 25, 2012 at 11:12 am

yep, just like they backed the GCA of 68, the FOPA of 86 and the AWB 94. they sure do get my money!!

if it aint a huntin gun, the NRA doesnt like it.

Phil October 26, 2012 at 07:49 am

Yea, the NRA sure helped keep our freedoms during those years. ^^

Phoenix October 27, 2012 at 11:02 pm

exactly. even the vaunted right-wing idol reagan signed FOPA 86 at the request of the NRA. “sure it limits the new manufacture of machine guns, but we still get to keep our huntin guns.”

elephantrider October 25, 2012 at 11:55 pm

The 2nd Amendment is probably the only issue that may actually be affected by the outcome of this election. Jobs, economy, national defense, abortion, you name it, probably wont change much regardless of who wins. Obama in a second term could make a big impact on 2A rights. A new “Assault Weapon” or magazine ban could be introduced. Obama was pretty hands off in his first term, but with the hints he’s been dropping I don’t suspect that would continue in a second term.

Andy Wolf October 25, 2012 at 11:46 am

I’ve stated before, I get really annoyed with the NRA. If it weren’t for their defense attorneys and insurance, I wouldn’t be a member. Too extreme for my taste. They also make us look bad.

“OBAMA WILL TAKE YOUR GUNS” .. Okay, Whatever Wayne Lapierre.

ken, Anthony October 25, 2012 at 12:44 pm

I side with the NRA! i hate him to! He will try to take our guns away! We are one justice away from having a liberal supreme court, And Bary said that he wants to re institute an AWB. If he wins, we will lose a lot of our freedoms.

Fake Chris October 25, 2012 at 01:52 pm

This type of crap is why I refuse to support the NRA. Romney, in his one elected position (as governor of MA) proudly instituted (and then publicly defended several times) a permanent AWB. Now since he’s running Republican he buys his NRA lifetime membership and makes up some (unverifiable) story about hunting ‘small varmints’ as a kid. It’s sad that the NRA’s wholehearted endorsement can be purchased for only $1,000 and a few loads of bullshit.

Obama on the other hand has stayed the hell away from 2A issues during his first term, 99% of what he’s said has been that he wants to work within the bounds of existing law. I don’t doubt that he’d happily sign an AWB if it crossed his desk, but he’s made it pretty clear that 2A regulation is not a priority for him. Yet Obama is vilified as the Devil Incarnate, the man who would take every single gun out of private hands, while Romney (the one who actually tried to take guns away) is given a free pass. This is why I don’t join the NRA.

Neither candidate is pro-gun. Neither candidate should receive the NRA’s endorsement. If NRA must endorse somebody, it should be Gary Johnson, the candidate who has a track record of consistently supporting 2A.

Personally I think the worst thing NRA does is turn guns into a partisan political wedge issue. If it wasn’t for a lot of mostly-urban people who’ve never once been to a range, gun control wouldn’t even be an issue. Note I’m saying urban, not liberal or democrat- if you take a state like NY and chopped off NYC, the rest of the state would have FAR less anti-gun bias.

NRA should focus their efforts on educating non-gun-owners and introducing new people to the sport of shooting. If they stopped attacking half the country long enough to notice, they’d realize many of those they attack are potential allies.

I speak from experience- I’m from a blue state. I usually vote Democratic and consider myself mostly liberal. I was never really anti-gun but I’d have supported CCW restrictions and AWBs simply because ‘keep military weapons off our streets’ sounds good. I was lucky to have a friend reach out and educate me, which got me interested in guns, and I am now strongly pro-2A, pro-CCW, anti-AWB. If even one out of 10 people like myself were lucky enough to have a friend like mine, this wouldn’t even be an issue because proposing an AWB would be political suicide.

M October 25, 2012 at 07:46 pm

This is the best explanation i’ve seen so far for what Mit actually did:

While he isn’t as pro gun as i’d like (especially on black rifles) he is better than the Obama ADMINISTRATION, I especially loathe the Sotomayor pick.

Sandy October 26, 2012 at 05:04 am

Well written. +1. I own a lot of guns, and I am fairly moderate, I don’t support the NRA for the very reasons you articulate. This should not be made into a partisan issues and sorry guys, Obama is not looking to grab our guns, he has bigger issues. NRA needs to support things that expand knowledge and understanding of firearms. That would help us more then the batshit crazy stuff they spout now. Change people’s minds and the politics will follow. Make it ok to be an “armed liberal”.
In short, the NRA makes us look crazy and we are not.

frank rizzo October 26, 2012 at 06:22 pm

Sandy you must be high if you believe “Obama is not looking to grab our guns”.

Barry has clearly stated that he wants the AWB back in place. And in case you doubt me, read it for yourself at the good ol’ site.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

The NRA may makes us look crazy from time to time, but there aren’t many in Washington that want to take this fight on in gov.

thehaggis October 31, 2012 at 07:52 am

/slow clap.. Very well said.

John Fritzed October 25, 2012 at 07:29 pm

Ditch these guys and please support The Second Amendment Foundation (

My little nephew could cobble together a better commercial on a second-hand Mac than that embarrassment from the NRA.

AZRon October 25, 2012 at 11:54 pm

Smooth media complicity is what got us into this mess in the first place.

It hurts us all to argue about the organizations that are honestly trying to stand up for our rights.

Punish3r October 25, 2012 at 09:10 pm

So who here is a member of the NRA I’m curious? I am a lifetime card member.

AZRon October 25, 2012 at 11:49 pm

Punish3r October 25, 2012 at 09:18 pm

Yes john but i doubt they have the financial backing or the legal team that the NRA does.

John Fritzed October 25, 2012 at 09:25 pm

Agreed. But it’s that exact reason that I’m so dissatisfied with their ad shown here. They have tremendous resources behind them but then they come across as a sort of amateurish (although they are not) operation to people who don’t know any better.

Punish3r October 25, 2012 at 09:39 pm

i see your point

matt RRC October 25, 2012 at 10:27 pm

Why anybody gets angry with an organization that defends gun rights is beyond me. Vote Obama and enjoy your $5.00 gas , dependance on foreign oil and extremely high health care prices.

Phoenix October 25, 2012 at 11:41 pm

because they only defend the gun rights that dont scare them.

ask your average gun owner over under duck hunter or deer hunter if full auto beltfed machine guns are covered by the second amendment, then be appalled at the answer.

Sivl32 (elvis) October 26, 2012 at 02:09 am

Fuck, I should not have watched this before bed now I’m gonna have nightmares. Thanks Obama for threatening me.

redbaron October 26, 2012 at 07:54 am

The NRA has long been just another in a long line of overly influential, overly funded lobby groups whose only real interest is in grabbing more influence and power in DC. Their particular schtick just happens to be gun rights, but that doesn’t make them any better than any other corrupt lobby.

Every picture I see of Wayne LaPierre shows him either in a) $1000 suit talking to political bigwigs, or b) in a super clean and well pressed hunting outfit with a $10,000 shotgun that probably only sees the light of day for photo ops talking with “average joes”. He’s no more interested in your personal rights than any other lobbyist. Gun rights just happen to be his path to power and influence.

Church October 26, 2012 at 05:34 pm

I’m an NRA member, but if they call me one more time and say, give us way too much money so we can put Obama in his place I’m going to never support them again.

I hate their phone calls!

Andy Wolf October 26, 2012 at 11:24 pm

they do like to pander

Jim P. October 27, 2012 at 10:36 am

I’m an NRA member. It was because there was legislation that went through that restricted 2A rights. But I also support and

I’d gladly support an effective 10th amendment movement as well.
