Indiana Senator Wants To Restrict Tannerite Purchases

Tannerite is so awesome, one senator wants to make it more difficult to get:

Some highlights:

(0:55) – Ron Humbert of the metro bomb squad is “extremely nervous” because it could be used for something other than its intended purpose.  Yea Ron?  Do kitchen knives, gasoline, fertilizer, javex, plastic bags, lasers, vehicles etc… etc… also make you extremely nervous?

People blow this stuff out of proportion.  (1:46) – OMG THE BLAST DESTROYED THE WOOD it was placed on! Also this quote:

(2:00) – Dat explosion.  If you’re not scared by that, you’re not breathin’ -State Senator Jim Merritt

Bannerite Tannerite!  Actually please don’t.   Tannerite must love all the free publicity they have been getting over the years.  What more could a company ask for? The media demonizes your product, most of the people that see the fear piece think it’s awesome (not scary)… your two concerns become 1) How to supply the market with all the product it needs?  2) What should I do with all this money?

Thoughts?

  1. *sigh* The moment I heard “ATF”, I tuned out.

  2. “He’d never heard of it or seen what it can do until we showed him.” There’s a reason for that, because no one has ever tried to kill anyone with it. Now it’s the worst killer known to mankind. Meanwhile the senator’s son is probably making drano bombs with, gasp… household products! Ban 2 liter bottles and cleaning products.

    1. Senators just worried someone uses it on him when they find out whos been paying him under the table/ sending boys/girls/farm animals to his secret weekend getaway.

  3. Did you see that “high powered silenced assault weapon”?!?!?! why would someone ever need a gun like that?? haha
But seriously when are they going to start banning kitchen knives, gasoline, fertilizer, javex, plastic bags, lasers, vehicles etc… since those are just as lethal…

Is this really a Senator? I thought for damn sure this was The Onion for a moment.

  5. My dad is a bit of a safety nut, which over all I guess isn’t a bad thing. He has always been a little weary of Tannerite and its many derivatives. He would tease his SWAT buddy saying, “if I were a bad guy you wouldn’t want to come knocking on my door. Have you seen that milk can by my front door?” We have an old style metal milk can for decoration by the door, it could be filled with a good amount of Tannerite…or several other explosive materials available. Gun powder may not be as unstable as Tannerite but just as available easily made into an explosive devise. This is just a knee jerk reaction to the new “scary” thing.

    1. Black power would be less stable than tannerite (what is basically ammonium nitrate and aluminum). Smokeless powder would be about the same in stability as far as a detonation but smokeless would be more likely to go up in flames as a low explosive than tannerite.

    2. a little 26-0-0 fertilizer would do just as well, and can be bought from the garden center.

kinda silly though, harming a police officer is just going to get you into more trouble. Your home is only a castle until they say it’s not, at which point going out in a blaze of glory is just pointless and causing WAY more harm than good.

  6. The best defence against swat teams it to have lots of tannerite in every decorative nick nak that the wife or gf has filled your shelves with. Then when they get the wrong house and come in guns blazing hopefully they hit some.

  7. So are they banning ice packs and aluminum powder too? I wonder if they realize it takes gunfire to set these wimpy explosives off. You can’t detonate it with anything other than friction.

    1. I dont know when, but they did in canada. You cant find aluminum powder anywhere. i have spent much time looking

aluminum craft wire (almost pure aluminum)+ old blender = powdered aluminum

  8. They blew up a van teach me how to do that with tannerite I wanna do that.

The answer, shockingly enough, is lots of Tannerite.

  9. They said the ATF set some off with a blasting cap…

    1. We should ban blasting caps!

  10. What is awesome is they don’t even try to market…look at the packaging…no care in the world on advertisement – but between Top Shot, FPS Russia, etc. etc. they’re probably bazillionaires.

  11. my state would be the one staete you cant get it fucking commies.

  12. TFI: Total fucking idiot.

Mix bunches of gasoline, laundry detergent and shaved phosphorous in a metal container. Can somebody tell me what you have?

    Thank you for playing.

    1. Very funny, if I reply what you have there I get put on a government watchlist.

      1. Can you tell me where to get the ingredients at least? :-p

  13. I wonder if the exploding house in indianapolis will become a tannerite campaign

  14. Oh and we need to get rid instant cold packs too.

How come we don’t ever see senators asking to ban high-intensity argon lasers? Those could definitely be used for bad and/or destructive purposes.

  16. While we are at it, lets ban schools too. Since if we don’t learn how to make these things, we can’t buy or sell them.

We should ban cars and public transportation too…because, a 2000 pound or larger projectile moving at a high rate of speed can be quite deadly. And you can find them everywhere!

Shit, Dihydrogen Monoxide can be deadly in very high concentrations too (give it a minute…you’ll get it…eventually). People have died from it.
