Click It Or Ticket – Wear Your Seatbelt To Stay Alive And Not Get A Ticket

Richard Ryan with a PSA:

In today’s day and age, not wearing a seatbelt is like smoking… you really should know better.  It doesn’t help when vechile manufacturers make annoying seatbelts though.  The seatbelt on my 2001 Honda Civic back in the day would lock up every time I would lean to do a shoulder check… that was infuriating.  Still I wore it and just got used to that because I didn’t want to die.  Also I really hate in really small cars when the seatbelt can’t go high enough and cuts into my neck.  Thankfully now I have a driver and roll around in a Rolls Royce Phantoms, so I don’t worry about that peasant shit anymore.  Kidding… I actually don’t even have a car right now, and I’m enjoying the extra money and not having to do annoying things like keep it clean and get the oil changed.

Thoughts?  Do you roll the dice and decide not to wear a seatbelt on a regular basis?

I wear a seat belt every time I ride in a car. However, I am appalled that I can get pulled over and fined for not doing so. These laws are (an albeit small) example of the worst kind of legislation that has been ever on the rise. If I’m not wearing my seat belt I am putting no one at risk but myself. How dare they legislate my personal level of risk? The government is not our parents (despite what Chris Rock might think). They have no place punishing us for actions that do not hurt others.

I just wear the lap belt, shoulder if the roads are narrow or weather very very bad. I should do both, but I have a old wound that is irritated by shoulder belt.

50, I disagree. As someone who worked Fire/Rescue, you become a projectile when you’re not secured. I saw a man go through a windshield and kill the person in the passenger seat of the car he met head on. It was horrible. The drunk bastard lived, but not the passenger.

This is ridiculous. Telling people to do something because they will be forced by men with guns to hand over their money if they don’t is awful. I always wear my seatbelt without fail, but it’s *never* because of the impending fine for non-compliance. I also don’t care if other people don’t want to, because it’s NONE OF MY BUSINESS and it’s also NONE OF THE POLICE/GOVERNMENT’S BUSINESS. I hate all this “do this or we will punish you” crap when it comes to public safety.

Here in Arizona you don’t have to wear a motorcycle helmet if you don’t want to, which I think is fantastic. I also think if you ride a motorcycle without a helmet you are an idiot, but let’s be honest…riding a motorcycle at all already increases your risk of injury/death by a very large margin compared to driving a car. Seatbelt laws always make me wonder, why not regulate riding motorcycles too? Shouldn’t it be illegal because it’s so dangerous?
