Shotguns – A Way Of Accidental Death

If you’re a Vigilant Spectre member, and/or operating above your skill level:

1:16 is where you need to start watching.  WTF?!  That is the kind of thing that just isn’t cool.  When Vigilant Spectre himself pointed out casually that he was “muzzled for like 20 minutes” the other guy laughed it off and was like “That’s the point.  Transitioning right?”.   Transitioning to the grave if you keep shit like that up.

Vigilant-Spectre-Victorias-SecretUgh.  You would not find me sticking around anywhere where firearm safety is that much of a laughing matter.  Push-ups and it’s OK!

I find it funny to think these guys have actual written “Standard Operating Procedures” they apparently follow… but here is the critique of what happened according to Vigilant Spectre:

Typically when there is a transition involved there are processes (actual written SOPs) in place to mitigate potential NDs, because its unavoidable when operating in 360 degrees that people are going to get swept:

“..The weapon has either been run dry and verified cold by the user, or the weapon has been safed. ”

I watched this multiple times in 300x slow motion and neither of these occurred.

Furthermore, it is also VSO standard operating procedure to “…maintain positive visual control of the weapon system any time manipulation of the weapon system occurs.”
This also did not occur, i.e. hand on receiver of shotgun while behind the back, pointed at buddy’s face.
There was certainly some falconry going on here and it will be addressed.

3 points slings, and that’s all.

Jeep June 6, 2013 at 01:35 am

Waoww, Victoria’s secret polo shirts!

Smooth Operator June 6, 2013 at 03:23 am

Am I the only one who thinks he puts these videos of fuckups up just to get a rise out of you guys? If so, he has succeeded.

If not I will be (but probably shouldn’t) surprised how grown men act like lame ass operators. What scares me is how they take themselves seriously.

Cuban Pete June 6, 2013 at 03:55 am

Now I don’t support the creation of a National Firearms Registry, but in the case of those two punks, there is a serious need to put them into some sort of dangerous firearms users registry.

Spectre June 6, 2013 at 04:36 am

Honestly, I leave the mess-ups in for two reasons.

One I don’t make shit up, there is very little movie magic tht occurs here and I think to hide things makes you look like you are just trying to make it into the popular kid’s club.

The other reason: you are correct it antagonizes people who really shouldn’t care but do.

All that said this one was !!BAD!! and I fully acknowledge that this was a truly dangerous situation. This is a prime example of what happens when you try to show off and that showing off exceeds your capabilities.

Wasder June 6, 2013 at 04:51 am

Why didn’t you at least move instead of just standing there with his shotgun muzzle pointed straight at the camera?

2Wheels June 6, 2013 at 07:30 am

How ’bout you guys spend all this cash you’ve got lying around to buy ammo on some actual classes (from real professionals) so when you attempt to teach us stuff, we don’t just sit here and mock you?

Now there’s an idea!

hydepark June 6, 2013 at 08:15 pm

I’ve seen worse out at the no rules mountain range I frequent. Even the so called “best trained” soldiers have fuck ups. Nothing to see here, Mike. VSO is making you jelly, methinks.

librarian45 June 6, 2013 at 04:39 am

5:18- Sonny Puzika jab.
Despite the fact these guys are always a rabbit fart away from NDing into a friend.

Regulus June 6, 2013 at 04:57 am

I’m making coffee. ANyone want a cup?

PhoenixNFA June 6, 2013 at 07:41 am

Yep. Ill bring the popcorn. Extra butter you guys?

Edit the mistakes out. People will take you more seriously.

Spectre June 6, 2013 at 09:07 am

Maybe, but real is better I think. I mean, I could nutnfancy my videos but then how would I antagonize you? Of the thirty clips I had to choose from for this particular video I knew this one would get someone’s unequivocal disapproval. The series needed some spice. I also think your line between professional training and entertainment is skewed. If you want professional training join the United States military, everything else will be, for all time, second best.

PhoenixNFA June 6, 2013 at 09:39 am

Hey there guy, since when did blatant disregard for firearms safety become “entertainment?”

If that is the case, please turn all of your firearms in as well as your carry permits, you have proven mentally and physically that you are unable to properly handle a firearm.

Al T. June 6, 2013 at 12:12 pm

“If you want professional training join the United States military” – bullshit. Military training is way better now than when I started, but it’s still mostly geared to the lowest common denominator.

There’s a reason the SOCOM guys were bringing in civilians to train them. You guys need to get some training, any training. That dude looked like a monkey fucking a football and apparently you are to ignorant to coach him.

Kevin June 6, 2013 at 08:55 am

Dear Spectre,

When someone gets shot and you have it on tape PLEASE put it on liveleak! PLEASE.

Thanks buddy,

Spectre June 6, 2013 at 09:00 am

Deal, but why not YouTube?

Kevin June 6, 2013 at 01:52 pm

Cause youtube usually takes that stuff down man!

Spectre June 6, 2013 at 02:46 pm

Ah yeah, you are probably right. Considering one of my hunting videos was labeled age restricted because a deer gets shot in it. I can hear Yankee Marshal getting upset about it already.

Smooth Operator June 7, 2013 at 06:07 am

Yankee Marshall has stated explicitly even though he doesn’t hunt himself he holds hunting for food in high regards and says its something everyone should know how to do. He does not like trophy hunting however.

The reasons were upset with you are way more consequential that shooting a deer.
You need some real training. The guys at VIPERS Academy do a great job, check them out.

phoenixNFA June 6, 2013 at 12:12 pm

now i watched the video. oh god its worse than i thought.

VS. buy a tripod. film from a tripod then i dont have a problem with it. the only thing worse than the idiot behind the shotgun, is the idiot behind the camera.

DougE June 6, 2013 at 12:19 pm

I could only watch about half of the vid. All this screwing around with slinging/unslinging the shotgun just seems to complicate transitions. If you need to transition to your sidearm, you don’t have time to find a nice place for the shotgun, either one hand it, or dump it until you’re able to go on the move again.

It’s pretty painful to watch these guys. So they called out the guy for pointing the shotgun at the camera man but he didn’t even seem to budge an inch when it was pointed at him with a loaded chamber.

Church June 6, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I just want to know if people pay to take these classes, or if they’re all just friends doing it for shits and giggles. Most of these guys seem like they couldn’t operate a blender.

Enfieldem2 June 6, 2013 at 02:22 pm

My knowledge of shotgun “operations” is limited, when I use a shotgun it’s usually for busting clays. But I have never seen anyone transition a weapon by throwing it over their neck like that before. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn’t that just be an even worse version of that big combat no no, wearing a non clip on tie?

Jake June 6, 2013 at 03:05 pm

Wow. The Sonny P jab was low. But made me laugh. I was bothered at first but then realized, eh, he’s right. LOL.

Ka-BarArang June 6, 2013 at 03:23 pm

This has to be the DUMBEST transition I have ever seen. . . Who the fu<k taught you that garbage of throwing your weapon on your back? I just scanned your vids and I honestly do not know whats worse the "instructor" or the lame and physically challenged who follow him? Please do not ever wear your fake MARPAT again its an insult to men that have died wearing it while protecting your right to act like fucking moron in the forest with your "toys". You are seriously worse than any of these kids running around talking about COD, sadly someone will attempt to recreate the stupidity you display and they're going to get hurt and it will be all your fault 100% because you think your a professional.

dave w June 6, 2013 at 04:19 pm

i think they just took a page from the yeager book of making money on youtube. Every so often make a vid you know suckers will re post everywhere and watch a thousand times then sit back and profit.

Taylor TX June 6, 2013 at 05:52 pm

WEAR THE SLING!!!!! holy shit, why would you ever want to start throwing your shotgun around like that loaded. I know this is video is just to excite the trolls and shit but I seriously see some Tex Grebner shit happening real quick like and an unfortunate #8 birdshot shell to the chest or worse.

MrMaigo June 7, 2013 at 12:04 am

So THATS how you reload a shotgun. I’ve been loading shells like a noob when all i had to do was throw it over my shoulder.

Pan500 June 7, 2013 at 01:33 am

Awwww that’s sweet. VS guys got their weekly moneydrop from their moms and could buy some ammo. Awwwww.

Jeep June 7, 2013 at 08:52 am

Count your f*ing rounds dude !

And, I say it again, 3 points slings !

DS June 8, 2013 at 06:05 pm

What’s the deal with throwing the shotgun over your shoulder? Why not just guide it down in front of you and let it hang on it’s sling like a rifle? Plus, how easy would it be to not duck your head away, and club yourself in the face with the shotgun?

Another thing, if you are transitioning to your pistol, it’s because the shotgun is dry. So you should practice reloading the shotgun after you’re done shooting with your pistol. You should practice reloading the shotgun a lot anyway, since it takes time and fine motor skills.

PJ June 9, 2013 at 01:12 pm

The sling over the head transition was used with the AK. The issued parade sling is too short to wear while firing so that stye transition slings the rifle out of the way. There’s no reason to do it if your sling can be worn while firing. Yes it gets the long arm out if the way but it risks muzzling others and is much slower to transition back to the primary. It’s dumb, but these guys didn’t just make it up.

Mitch June 13, 2013 at 01:16 pm

So much spent on ammo and gear, but not some extra cash for a decent sling? I suppose they dont sell it at walmart, so its not worth buying
