The Truth About Mental Illness and Guns

ReasonTV looks into it:

Even the nation’s premier gun lobby believes keeping guns away from the mentally ill is a good idea. It’s a sensible-sounding proposal, a logical precaution. But some forensic psychiatrists, whose jobs include the task of identifying potentially violent individuals, say that targeting the mentally ill isn’t as simple as it sounds.

Hmmm yea that’s a tough one.  I see what they mean about false positives and the danger of the “Better safe than sorry” approach.

Holy that anxiety disorder lady’s story is scary; California really screwed her on that one!  Embarrassing for sure.

Thoughts?

  1. It’s not about the fully mentally ill, it’s not about the half mental ill or people with sorts of anxiety, it’s not about the gang bangers, the hunters, or anything, it’s about the higher ups not wanting citizens to have guns, it’s about control. They don’t need guns! Why should you!?

Insanity is making the same mistakes repeatedly and expecting different results. What can we learn from this? :P

  4. The media need some where to point the finger, they need a scape goat and guns are an easy target. Guns are not people and can not fight back. What people tend to forget is that guns do not kill people, people kill people. It is not possible to determine if some one is truly mentally ill, but we can try to keep closer tabs on those who are more at risk.
