Indiana Police Chief Wiggum ND’s Glock On Jacket Drawstring Adjustment

EMBARRASSING haha.  In a gun store too:

Chief-WiggumClearly he was the only one professional enough to handle that gun.  That’s the 2nd time he’s Negligent Discharged in 2 years too.

Definitely a case for careful re-holstering.  So many HSLD operators think they need to get it back in the holster quickly and without looking, like it matters so much.

2:35 – Is he seriously air pulling / pushing graphics?  *eye roll* LOL

Thoughts?

  1. Chief of Police??? Seriously? HA HA HA that Chief Wiggum pic is more than appropriate!

What a dumbass! Yeah dude, that’s the way to go, if it resists while being holstered, fiddle with it, then push it harder !

I like how the entire news bit seems to focus on the gun’s inadequacies, not the operator’s (does he even operate tho??)

    1. Right, they are trying to explain that gun safeties are just non-functioning features, put in place to make more money by selling guns to inexperienced people.

    2. It’s the narrative dude. Guns are bad and dangerous and scary. So much so that even highly trained and skill police officers (who are the only people who should have guns in the first place) are shot when they go off for no reason. All news stories featuring guns must reinforce this narrative.

  3. Video disappeared….

    1. Dang it. I wanted to see that one.

        1. Thanks.

Anyone who entirely faults the officer here has to be real with themselves.

This is a perfect example of shit can happen to anyone and we all need to be cognizant of. This not the same as that dude with the dreads who shot himself or the Bridgeport cop in a doughnut shop whose greasy fingers slipped while lowering the hammer (I don’t think that was covered here http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Bridgeport-cop-shoots-self-in-the-leg-5071216.php ).

    Inspect your cover garments.

My primary cover garment has the end of the drawstring sewn into a loop on the inside of the jacket so there is no loose end.

I was wearing a different fleece with freely hanging drawstrings last week and the string (fortunately not the plastic clip part) got caught in the holster when holstering.
I have an old 5.11 jacket with those plastic clips themselves attached to the jacket so they don’t travel with the drawstring.

It is important to be diligent and take this stuff into account.

    1. Yeah, but second ND….

Why do people insist on yanking out their carry gun at the gun shop?

I know what a Glock 23 looks like dude.. keep it holstered.

Bingo! He never should have removed it from the holster. There’s no threat present. He needlessly endangered everyone in that shop.

  7. That is one reason XDs are better than Glocks. GRIP SAFETY.

    1. hydepark Avatar

Yeah because there’s NO WAY he could have depressed the grip safety while reholstering. Get real dude.

Not saying I disagree with you, but in this case that grip safety would have prevented this. The gun discharged when he pulled at his jacket. His hand was off the gun at that point.

I watched it again, and you’re right. It was in his holster with his hand off the grip.
Personally I think age is a factor here. Only people between the ages of 18 and 60 should own guns. #TROLLHARD

Does anyone have any experience with the add-on trigger safeties from 3rd party places? I remember one that has like a button in the trigger itself and then another one has a block that can be quickly pushed out from behind the stock trigger.

Honestly an ND can and does happen with firearms of all types with different safety mechanisms.

      2. hydepark, if you try hard, then yes, you can shoot yourself. But the double safeties on an XD, which require force to be applied in opposite directions, helps to prevent this particular ND. This particular ND, by the way, happens a lot with Glocks.

He also sweeps the people at the front of the store when he unholsters a second time to set the gun on the counter.

  9. I guess he tried out the new gun he wanted to buy in his current holster… Thus the manipulation.

    Springfield FTW.

  11. Glock perfection with all them mad operator skills giggity

  12. At least the reporter said the way to minimize the risk was modifying the jacket rather than banning all glocks.

    1. Quite a sensible and quick solution. If you carry, it’s your responsibility to do so safely, and such a quick and easy fix should really be part of the CCW curriculum. “Don’t wear shit that snags on your gun”.

Ok, so from now on I’m only carrying my glock when I’m butt-naked! oh wait , that won’t be CONCEALED CARRY.

    1. Depends how far you’re willing to go :p
… picture it… Thank you, I’ll be here all week :D

at the very least, if he knows he snagged something, use your other hand, lock the slide back, then figure your shit out.

    simple safety stuff.

  15. I never did consider the trigger safety to be of much use. How often does anyone or anything attempt to pull the trigger by the very edge of the trigger. Yes, it is a safety just not much of one at all.

As most everyone else has pointed out, the main safety (the operator) was disengaged at the time of the shooting.

Didn’t we see one of these, also a 2nd ND, about 6 months ago? Or is this the same dumbass?
