Shopping Bag Concealed Handgun Carry

Not sure if trolling:

shopping-bag-concealed-handgun-carry

People are used to seeing someone walk around with plastic grocery bags in their hands.  The same ubiquitous bag can be found in every corner of the world.  Carrying it draws no attention because it’s a common part of the scenery.  No one looks twice.

I’ve used the technique dozens of times in dodgy third world countries.  If I get caught in a dangerous part of town, I’ll just stop into the corner store and buy a couple bottles of water.  They’ll put them in a plastic sack and I take it into a restroom.  I remove the water, place my knife opened and ready for action (or gun) in the bag and walk out.  No one notices and I feel a whole lot better prepared to handle a violent attacker.

Full article over at Active Response Training. (Bro do you even lift? :P)

Yea so like I said, I’m not sure if this is a serious suggestion or not.  Seems like it would work in a pinch, but unless you find yourself involved in some movie-type scenario where you Bruce Lee kick 10 dudes with guns in the crotch, then grab one guy’s arm and make him shoot the other guy, use another guy for cover when someone returns fire, and then finally everyone is dead so you pick the best gun to take with you… If you’re not in that type of situation then I suggest you take a couple hours out of your busy schedule and research IWB holsters.

Thoughts?  Troll successful?

I don’t think i have the dedication to carry a plastic bag around in hand 24/7.

  2. So this guy runs in the training circles around Ohio. He is/was affiliated with a place called tactical defense institute where I like to attend courses. He has gained a rep for solid research and analysis, such as in this article: http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/alternate-look-handgun-stopping-power . So I think he is a decent dude.

Now, this… At first I was all like “wtf Becky?” Then I was all like “ohhhh.” But I guess I see his point that if you are in a really vile nasty place, like Pittsburgh or Ann Arbor (heh), then you have your heater at the ready. I guess I do the same in my car by putting my glock fo-tee under my leg while driving through the ghetto. But this seems dangerously close to like, brandishing, etc. Maybe borderline assault if someone outs you – “oh officer, it was horrible, I asked him for a quarter because my car was out of gas on the interstate with my family in it and he pointed his high capacity assault bag at me.” I mean, you’re still walking around with a heater in your hand and at the ready. Of course ellifritz is 5-0 so you know, there’s that.

Anyway, good option maybe if you break down in a shitty part of the world and want to shave some serious time off the ol’ draw stroke.

People have been low-pro carrying in bags for years; gunwriters in the ’60s and ’70s reference the technique.

  4. I can only imagine the legal ramifications if someone shoots someone while carrying in a shopping bag like this. At least the guy is carrying a revolver.

i am going to try this with a garbage bag and an AR. (anyone asks what’s in the bag, i will say it’s a tactical broom.)

Typical of weakling imperialist (I am refering to you Endo-Mihail). Not all places you can buy or aquire a real holster, sometimes you have to improvise.

Besides it is an old technique, right there with the “sawn-off Mauser under your jacket”-technique.

I’m just glad he didn’t demonstrate “deep covert carry in assless chaps while serving as minion of The Lord Humongous”.

Have traveled in Africa, this is a totally workable solution in the third world and would not look out of place. In any American ghetto this would not stand out. In the next few days, look out for a video of me trying this out and putting the bag carry to the test.

Sounds good. Are you doing a crowded public walk, with a friend filming you with a GoPro? That would be cool.

I could. I live right outside of one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. Higher crime rate than Camden. I could also do the walk in the land of soccer moms and see what they do.

I got the poorest city in the U.S. and $800,000 McMansions all within a 10 minute drive. This could be a two part series.

  10. I flashed back to Hickey and Boggs, wherein they carried a .44 mag in a towel everywhere!
    Exigent circumstances, my friends.

  11. Perfect for dog walkers. No one will want to see what’s in it. Just don’t accidentally use it unless you’re up for some stinky torture test.

  12. The perfect option for people who like prison time, because if the criminals can get the bag in your hand that you are holding with a death grip is a gun, so can the police.

If you are going to do something as incredibly dimwitted as carry in a shopping bag, why in the heck would you carry a revolver with a 2″ barrel, and wear a t-shirt? Shopping bag carry says body armor and a bear loads, like a magnum with 6″ barrel, or at least a short barreled carbine with the shoulder thingie that goes up.

judging from the OP, not a troll, but tacti-cool not tactical.

    1. LOL. You’re one of those guys who brags, “I can tell who is carrying and who isn’t,” aren’t ya?

No wonder Los Angeles banned plastic bags. It makes SO much more sense now.
