Instructor Zero Handgun Disarms

Yea… this happened:

First of all, why get that close to someone you’re holding at gunpoint?  I get that depending on the situation you might not have a choice.

Why doesn’t anyone ever do videos of this with simunition, where the guy could actually shoot Instructor Zero in the face when he thinks he’s slick and tries to disarm like that?

Instructor-ZeroJust once I want to see CNN broadcasting footage of someone Epicly disarming an active shooter in this manner.

Thoughts?  Do you practice disarms?  Do you think this is HSLD bullshit?

  1. We had a training course where we used revolvers with primered cases and foamies (ear pro) stuffed into the cases.

Believe it or not, action is faster than reaction, and we were able to deflect before the shooter could fire.

I’m not a fan of Zero’s instruction (on anything), but any way you can get out of the line of fire and disarm/disable the shooter no matter how ugly, is better than standing there and taking it.

    1. Yep. Action is much faster. It’s amazing what a few tenths of a second will do.

I don’t think disarming the bad guy is that important, deflecting the gun so you don’t catch a bullet is IMO the most important.

Sure, if you disarm him that is a nice bonus.

        1. as already stated action is faster than reaction

gun is drawn, you defelect round,

          gun is re-engaged, you die

          1. Fencing tip of the day: Deflecting an incoming sword thrust require a horizontal movement of your blade. You want to sweep the incoming thrust the shortest distance across your body.

*Don’t swipe the blade to your right when the point is aimed at your left shoulder. You give the point more time to close the gap to your body.
*Blading your body or perpendicular movement helps too (unfortunately fencers only move back and forth)

These same concepts are the same as moving a gun’s aim off your body. You’ll notice Zero doing all those things. They aren’t perfect or seem fast until you’re the guy reacting. (His training buddy has an edge because he knows what he’s about to do and still doesn’t get a shot off)

I love these videos. “Bad guy” stands perfectly still while our hero disarms him. Hurray!!!!!
    Fail.

  3. at 43 seconds gets his thumb under the hammer when shooting. shows up in the next few scenes with black thumb tape.

  4. it’s another type of exercise in timing and precision under stress – maybe it’s not going to help you disarm someone but it’s useful training for that reason.

  5. Here’s another thing that seems improbable until you try it for yourself:

On one hand I want this dude to go to ECQC to learn how much he sucks. On the other hand I know he’d end up ripping off Southnarc’s stuff.

As should be known, Victor Marx’ disarms are bad, because they prevent you from using the Tiger Claw or the Throat Rip techniques. Explained by Master Ken: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pezq4fojLT8

Make sure you wear your earpro while using blueguns

At 29 sec looks like the gun is cycling so simunition no but active gun capable of being fired yes so yea maybe not simunition but definitly capable of being fired and guess what the attacker never got a shot off
