Archie Comics Tries Too Hard By Mixing Gay And Guns

This is unsurprising and retarded:

Oh wow, an “openly gay” character in Archie Comics, and a shooting of that character which Archie tries to stop and ends up taking a bullet and dying.  *gasps* *primal screams*  sooooo cutting edge… so edgy… so relevant to the struggles and things going on in today’s world. *eye roll*  To make things even better, the gay character Kevin Keller Keller is a married military veteran and newly elected senator who’s pushing for more gun control in Riverdale after his husband was involved in a shooting.  Like if that isn’t the perfect manufactured character and story line I don’t know what is.  I feel like I’m gagging on a rainbow filled unicorn horn right now.  It’s a real shame that the writers didn’t have the foresight to make Kevin Keller black or Mexican, a war amputee, and a transvestite midget too… that really would have pushed the “Ooooohs and Aaaaaaaahhs” over the top and gained major points for originality.  So much white privilege in Archie Comics it’s like a Hitler Youth publication.

“We wanted to do something that was impactful that would really resonate with the world and bring home just how important Archie is to everyone,” said Goldwater. “That’s how we came up with the storyline of saving Kevin. He could have saved Betty. He could have saved Veronica. We get that, but metaphorically, by saving Kevin, a new Riverdale is born.”

Archie-Kevin-Keller-GayROFL that quote is literally the gayest thing (no pun or disrespect intended) I have ever read.  My sister and I used to read a lot of Archie comics because my grandparents owned a store.  I lost respect for the franchise when they started repeating storylines years later in comics thinking people wouldn’t notice.  Well we did notice and stopped reading.  The comic also got watered down heavily as the world was beginning to change to what it is now, where people who own companies convince themselves they have to walk around on eggshells and not dare say anything non-politically correct which would piss anyone off.

Looks like there’s a small nook for a couple of paper clips on the top of the slide of that pistol.

IllTemperedCur July 15, 2014 at 06:31 am

That pic sure looks like Archie is the aggressor.

PPGMD July 15, 2014 at 09:53 am

Even money says it is going to be a homophobic pro-gun redneck.

ENDO-Mike July 15, 2014 at 10:36 am

Haha Yea that’s pretty much guaranteed. Is Veronica’s dad still grumpy and old school? It might be him trying to cleasnse Riverdale LOL.

Franz July 15, 2014 at 06:05 pm

No bet!

pointblank4445 July 15, 2014 at 10:00 am

With all the great stuff out there, this is what you go with after your days off? WTF, Mike?

You got LAV playing “horse” with Ken Hackathorn:

Or how about Robocop dick-shoot bonanza?:

Fuckin’ Archie comics…
“unsurprising and retarded” isn’t that the TTAG mantra? LOL

ENDO-Mike July 15, 2014 at 10:33 am

There’s still time! I saw all that I just thought I’d go with this for today.

Agitator July 17, 2014 at 09:59 am

““unsurprising and retarded” isn’t that the TTAG mantra? LOL”

Nailed it.

Meanwhile, The Punisher has the least recurring villains when compared to more popular heroes.×486.jpg

ENDO-Mike July 15, 2014 at 10:36 am

Haha nice

lolinski July 15, 2014 at 03:19 pm

That is precisely the reason that the Punisher is the only superhero comic I read. I mean isn’t Batman partially responsible for all the people that the Joker kills because Batman didn’t kill him when he had the chance?

Hey, I thought that homosexuals were part of the pro-2nd Amendment Rainbow Coalition. I guess they did not get the memo. Time for people of the gun to start fighting against homosexual privilidge and immigrants. Both groups are enemies of the 2nd Amendment.

Eric July 15, 2014 at 06:06 pm

You’re forgetting about the Pink Pistols (

Grindstone July 15, 2014 at 06:13 pm

Maybe, JUST maybe groups of people aren’t all the same.

Crazy, I know.

Bill July 16, 2014 at 11:29 am

Privilege was written right above you and you couldn’t properly spell it?

Freedom haters will subvert anything to further their cause and will do that to push undecided people into their camp. You are only helping them. Go back to TTAG where you belong.

hydepark July 16, 2014 at 05:21 pm

Homosexuals are enemies of the 2nd Amendment. Wow. Please do make sure to include the mountains of evidence you must have had to climb over to make that post.

And Mike’s continued overt angst for gays used to be lame and offensive. Now it’s just sad and repetitive. “ROFL that quote is literally the gayest thing (no pun or disrespect intended) I have ever read.” Mike, just come out of the homophobia closet already and admit that, for whatever reason, you have this bigotry. No need to feel alone and scared that people will isolate you and dwell on your shortcoming. You can tell yourself that the people who begin to publicly avoid any and all association with you because of your strongly-held belief were never your friends to begin with. Oh, and I wish I could tell you that being a bigot gets better, but I sincerely hope it doesn’t.

ENDO-Mike July 16, 2014 at 05:26 pm

Your feelings get hurt really easy, and you hate this site. We have established that time and time again. I have zero problem with gays, I think I’ve made that quite clear in the past.

I still can’t wait for you to bless the world with your blog. I know I’ll learn so much.

hydepark July 16, 2014 at 05:34 pm

Has nothing to do with feelings. You consider yourself irreproachable when someone makes a meaningful criticism. You’ve made clear your disdain for one particular minority SEVERAL times. And I think it’s also time to get some new material as far as me getting a blog going is concerned. Just so happens I have a real life job (in the oilfield) where I work long hours and get dirty (oh no!!1!) so forgive me if I can’t use my two or three free hours a day blogging. Last time I checked, you have a comment section. If disagreements or contrary opinion scare you that much, I suggest you start moderating.

ENDO-Mike July 16, 2014 at 05:32 pm

Well maybe you don’t ALWAYS hate this site. I just wish I still had time to do MILcentric. Oh well hopefully in fall.

JohnnyIShootStuff July 15, 2014 at 03:02 pm

Really, are people still reading comics? Seems like Archie was well past his time, for the last two decades.

jim bob July 15, 2014 at 03:56 pm

isn’t this distracting us all from the real issue at hand, would you stick it in Betty or Veronica?

Max July 15, 2014 at 04:51 pm

GAAAAAAAA! I hate the word “impactful” and all who use this meaningless buzzword! It is a stupid word used by touchy-feeling namby pamby HR types who feel the need to embrace some sort of quasi-intellectual marketing ploy in order to justify their pathetic existence and most likely a degree ending in “studies”.
Also, I thought Archie ended after is failed three-way with Betty and Veronica, he joined the Marines, was awarded the Silver Star and a Purple Heart, came home a dejected veteran and died at the VA in his father’s arms while waiting for a bureaucrat to decide if that kidney should go to a True Patriot or some drooling illegal immigrant kid.
Seriously though Archie takes the bullet?! Not the Senator’s security detail? Metaphorically this is Archie embracing his inner ‘gay” by taking a “shot” for Kevin. I could go on an on with metaphors (and the occasional simile) but I need more vodka to justify that amount of weirdness.

Grindstone July 15, 2014 at 06:14 pm

I can’t believe this is still around. Who reads this stuff anymore?

Chris July 16, 2014 at 12:43 am

“ROFL that quote is literally the gayest thing (no pun or disrespect intended) I have ever read. ”

You guys reeeealy don’t do irony do ya.

Weer'd Beard July 16, 2014 at 03:02 am

Something tells me the reason for the politically charged stunt is the vast majority of Archie Comics are read by A) Kid’s who read them free because family owns a news stand or comic book store or B) Kids who’s grand parents bought them the comic as a gift because they didn’t want them reading a GOOD comic book that has all that violence and sexually explicit costumes!

It was the big reason why Superman got his ass kicked. A man in tights who could literally do ANYTHING was suddenly boring when the newer heroes with three-dimensional characters started hitting the racks.

Also the same reason why all the X-Men movies they’ve made, none have featured Cable. He’s as boring as Archie.

John Fritz July 16, 2014 at 06:05 pm

Whoever it is that writes or draws or produces this Archie stuff now, I wonder what they got paid or what they received or what someone had over them to make them do this? To end the strip like this? It stinks like something weird is going on…

TAOFLEDERMAUS July 26, 2014 at 06:56 am

As a homophonic, openly strait individual, I’m offended.
