Potential Dust In Your AR-15 Magazine Well Woes

Another AR-15 related product no one ever asked for:

The MICS (Magazine Insert for Cleanliness and Safety) from Paratus.

Seriously?  Guys take these rifles into BATTLE, in the worst conditions on the planet and they work just fine with dust and debris in them.  I can’t see the AR-15 safe-queen guys buying these either to be honest, because why bother?  Perfect long term storage solution?  Uhhh ok whatever you say.

What’s next?  Will this company come out with something to seal every hole on the AR-15 making it airtight, then an extra little tank to purge the oxygen and replace it with Nitrogen?  Oh shit, if that wasn’t their next idea it definitely might be now.

Every once and a while when a company is veteran owned (like this one) some trolls stop in on the comments and start with the “MIKE HATES VETERANS!”  No I hate useless products, poor advertising, shitty execution etc… regardless of the persons past or present career, accolades etc…  Being a veteran and owning a company doesn’t grant you success; you need a good product.  If you guys like this magazine insert because you care that your magwell has no dust in it, then please by all means buy one for all your rifles and one for gifts for everyone you know!  I couldn’t be happier for you.

LOL I lost it at “Patent pending seal”. That seal looks so NXTLVL I bet non-firearm related companies even are going to want to license the seal technology to use it on their own products.

I’d like to tell you guys a price on this, but I’m either too dumb to find it or this is the usual situation where people like to talk about something they don’t sell yet for some unknown reason.

Thoughts?

The idea of the bright orange follower is a good idea I think…

I agree it’s stupid but dudes like these for going on training missions so they can be lazy. Had a ssgt rock none in 29 stumps cause he was hella lazy.

Lol I forgot about that one.

Can’t you just use a 20 round mag (or 10 round if you need super-compact)? If you need complete dust sealing it wouldn’t be that hard to make a rubber seal on the mag.

Balloon stretched over the magazine would be just as effective. And hella cheaper.

I don’t remember the product name, but there was something like this for sale in our little PXs in Iraq back in 06. Nothing too new, although props to this guy for fancying it up a bit.

Veterans rule, Mike drools.

I could almost see this being useful at a dusty outdoor range. Of course I’ve never seen a range that would didn’t require open actions and nothing in the mag well, particularly when what’s in the mag well looks an awful lot like a mag.

Like the bright follower though.

I get where he’s coming from with this, and if you don’t, you need to big army more.

Having said that, it’s a no-go at a range because it looks like a magazine. Why does it even have a ‘follower?’. The whole upper part should be orange, with no ‘follower’, just the orange body visible through the mag well. There should be a trap door on the bottom, so you have a place for your Skittles, or earplugs, or a cleaning brush.

Still don’t want one, though.

I can see some application to this if you want something besides a chamber flag. But if you’re storing it anyways, it should be relatively safe from the environment. I can’t see this as a quantifiable advantage of using these under those conditions.

“MIKE HATES VETERANS!”
I still remember that, “Grant,” poster saying Col. what’s-his-face should be immune to all criticism simply for being a MOH recipient. The green collar dick sucking sure can get out of hand on these gun sites.

Why is this not just molded from one orange piece of plastic with a gasket on it?

Cool thanks for the link Brian. Something tells me this MICS version is going to be more than $11.

The main reason isn’t about keeping crap out of your weapon, it is about making money on a product. If enough people buy the product to pay back the expenses of production with a little profit thrown in, it is a success.

We can laugh or think it is a great idea, but if they are making money off the product… you might just be saying Damn, why didn’t I think about making those for sale?

I don’t know how much your time is worth or if you own a business Glenn, but for most who do own businesses “making back a bit more than what we put in” isn’t considered a success at all.

Just put the gun in a bag if your going to need it load a mag and rack the bcg I’m sure a sealed chamber will keep dirty out of itself

KestrelBike September 24, 2014 at 10:17 am

What’s stopping someone from leaving a round in the chamber and inserting this and calling it “safe”?

Smokey Behr September 29, 2014 at 05:09 pm

Looks like a zero-round mag that can be used to work the Single Shot Exemption in California.
